The Cat-Like Miss Preston: Mr. CEO begs for Reconciliation!
Chapter 105: Donovan Xavier Gives Her a Ring
CHAPTER 105: CHAPTER 105: DONOVAN XAVIER GIVES HER A RING
Donovan Xavier let her hold him without pulling away.
Chloe Preston buried her face in his chest, her thick eyelashes dotted with tears and her voice muffled. "I understand now. From now on, I promise I won’t keep things from you again."
"I hope so," Donovan Xavier said. He reached out and pinched her soft cheek. "If it happens again, I’ll lock you in The Xavier Residence and never let you out."
Chloe Preston nodded meekly.
She noticed a faint, slightly swollen red mark on his left cheek, as if someone had hit him.
Chloe Preston reached out to touch it, asking nervously, "What happened? Did the Xavier Family hit you again?"
Donovan Xavier looked unfazed. "It’s nothing. I’ll just put an ice pack on it when I get home, and it’ll be fine."
Chloe Preston’s eyes reddened.
Seeing this, Donovan Xavier smiled and gently grazed the tip of her nose. "Don’t cry, and don’t blame yourself. I don’t feel any pain."
Next, he took a bouquet of white roses from the back seat and handed it to her. "You told me before that you liked white roses, and I remembered."
"I saw a flower shop on the way here, so I bought a bouquet to give to you when I got home. Do you like it?"
Chloe Preston took the bouquet with both hands, holding it to her chest. Her eyes were still red and moist as she nodded. "I like it..."
Donovan Xavier ruffled her hair and took out a small black velvet box from his pocket, rubbing it gently twice before handing it to her.
"I originally planned to give this to you tonight before bed. Seeing you’re about to cry, I’ll give it to you now to make you happy."
Chloe Preston took it curiously. "What is it?" she asked as she opened it.
The moment she saw what was inside, her eyelashes trembled violently, and she froze.
Chloe Preston looked up at the man and asked in disbelief, "You... you must have the wrong person, right?"
Donovan Xavier’s dark eyes narrowed. "If I’m not giving it to you, who else would I give it to?"
Chloe Preston lowered her eyes.
Inside the box was a dazzling, exquisitely crafted diamond ring with a unique design. Ivy Lane had sent her a photo of it last month; it was from an auction and billed as the most one-of-a-kind ring in the world.
It was said that many people had bid for the ring. The matriarch of the Sullivan family had offered one billion yuan, and the bidding was intense. In the final moments, however, a mysterious magnate bought it for an even higher, astronomical price.
It turned out he was the one who had bought it.
He had never told her.
Chloe Preston’s eyes stung, and she choked back a sob. "Why are you suddenly giving me this?"
Donovan Xavier’s expression was gentle as he smiled. "To be my Mrs. Xavier, you need a proper ring to wear."
He continued with a sigh, "Actually, when I saw you with Evan in the room earlier, I was furious. I was so angry that you’d lied to me that I planned to give you the silent treatment for a whole day."
"I was going to throw away the flowers, and I wasn’t going to give you the ring. I figured I’d let you stew on your own for a while and think about what you did."
Chloe Preston bit her lip and asked softly, "Then why are you talking to me now?"
Donovan Xavier’s dark eyes were deep as he gazed at her. "Today is the Qixi Festival. If I gave you the cold shoulder, you’d be very sad."
"I don’t want every future Qixi Festival to be a sad memory for you."
As he finished speaking, Chloe Preston’s eyes grew even redder. A fresh wave of tears welled up, threatening to spill over.
Donovan Xavier raised an eyebrow and threatened her, "Miss Quinn, if you cry, I’ll take back the ring."
"No way." Chloe Preston wiped away a tear, picked up the ring, and slid it firmly onto her finger. "You can’t take back something you’ve already given away. It’s mine now."
Donovan Xavier smiled. "Make sure to cherish it."
Chloe Preston nodded vigorously. "Mm, I’ll definitely wear it properly and won’t break it."
Donovan Xavier leaned in closer. "I meant, cherish me."
Chloe Preston, "..."
"What about you? It looks silly if I’m the only one wearing a ring. Why don’t you have one?"
Donovan Xavier reached out and flicked her forehead lightly, pretending to be aggrieved. "Tell me, why didn’t you buy me one?"
"Look at you, not caring about me at all. You’re too busy looking at other men."
"Alas, I’m so pitiful. It’s a holiday, and my girlfriend didn’t get me anything."
Chloe Preston, "..."
Donovan Xavier was about to say more when a feather-light kiss landed on his lips. It was soft and sweet.
Donovan Xavier’s heart skipped a beat. The corners of his lips curled up, but he sighed deliberately. "Girlfriends these days are so perfunctory. They think a single kiss is enough to appease their boyfriend."
Chloe Preston kissed him again. "Alright, alright. I’ll buy you one later."
Donovan Xavier’s gaze was alluring. "Then what are you giving me today?"
"What do you want?"
"You."
It took Chloe Preston a few seconds to react. Blinking, she pointed at her belly. "You said it yourself. You promised you wouldn’t touch me before the baby is born."
Donovan Xavier leaned close to her ear, his hot breath tickling her skin. He took her cool hand and squeezed it gently, his voice dropping to a hoarse whisper. "There are other ways, aren’t there?"
He continued, raising his other hand to gently brush his thumb across her rosy lips. "Miss Quinn, there’s always a way around a problem, don’t you think?"
Chloe Preston, "..."
...
「Four days later」
「The Rhodes Family’s Old Residence」
A black Rolls-Royce Phantom stopped at the entrance. Donovan Xavier got out and carefully helped Chloe Preston out of the car.
