CHAPTER 5: CHAPTER 5: SHE WARNED HIM NOT TO CROSS THE LINE!
Donovan Xavier still didn’t let go, looking at her with a smile in his eyes. "Why is your face so red? Do you have a fever?"
He clearly knew why I was blushing, but he just had to say that. So wicked.
He leaned in close to her ear and said in a deadpan voice, "Could it be you’re thinking about last night...?"
Instantly, Chloe Preston’s face burned red-hot.
How can he just say whatever comes to mind without considering the situation? Shameless!
Chloe Preston couldn’t listen anymore. She forcefully pushed him out the door and looked up at Noah Sullivan. "Sorry, Noah, I have to go! We’ll reschedule the business meeting!"
I can’t let this man stay here any longer. He’s so flippant, who knows what outrageous thing he’ll say next!
「Outside the door.」
A cold wind raged and the sky was gloomy. A light rain had started to fall at some point.
Donovan Xavier pulled her by the hand, stepped forward, and opened the car door. "Get in."
His tone left no room for refusal.
Although Chloe Preston was reluctant, she eventually got in. She knew perfectly well that she couldn’t win an argument with him. The more she resisted, the more domineering he would become.
Donovan Xavier got into the car as well and shut the door. The enclosed space of the car grew warmer, filling with a charged, intimate atmosphere.
He tilted his head and glanced at her. "Who is he? Are you close with him?"
"You just said you’ll meet with him again another day?" When he said that last sentence, he was clearly displeased.
Chloe Preston ignored him.
I’m not his woman anymore, so why is he interrogating me like he’s running a background check?
But she was also afraid that if he got angry, he would fly into a rage and do something reckless. She offered a perfunctory reply, "Don’t worry. He’s married with kids."
The corner of Donovan Xavier’s lips curved up slightly, involuntarily. He was clearly very satisfied with her answer.
「Meanwhile, outside the car.」
Faye Hughes stood not far away, holding a black umbrella, just about to step forward.
Owen Grant, standing beside her, grabbed her arm. "Didn’t you see what happened back at the apartment? That woman had just left, and when Donovan asked why you pushed her, he was furious!"
"You were in the wrong this time. Donovan wants you to give her a sincere apology later and ask for her forgiveness!"
Faye Hughes scoffed. "Apologize? As if!"
"Who does she think she is? That bitch isn’t even worthy of carrying my shoes! And she has the audacity to expect an apology from me!"
Owen Grant frowned slightly. "You can’t talk like that. I did some asking around. That woman is Donovan’s first love..."
「Inside the car.」
Chloe Preston buckled her seatbelt without looking at him or saying a word.
The next second, the man casually handed her a paper bag.
Chloe Preston paused for a moment before taking it. "What’s this?"
Donovan Xavier said nothing.
Chloe Preston opened the bag. Inside were ointment and bandages.
She lowered her gaze to the mark on her wrist and understood immediately. "Thank you..."
In truth, she wasn’t that fragile. An injury like this was nothing to her, and she hadn’t been bothered by it. But at this moment, a wave of warmth washed over her heart. I can’t believe that after four years, he’s still willing to care about me.
Donovan Xavier’s dark eyes seemed to shift. He stretched his long legs and turned to look at her. "Where do you want to go?"
Chloe Preston’s pretty face fell, and she went back to ignoring him.
He completely ruined my business meeting. I’m not in a good mood right now.
Donovan Xavier, however, found her sulking incredibly cute. He raised his hand, grabbed her arm, and pulled her onto his lap.
Chloe Preston jumped, quickly pressing her hands against his chest. "What are you doing?"
Donovan Xavier leaned in, resting his forehead lightly against hers. He restrained his emotions and said, "I want to do the kinds of things a man and a woman do together."
His gaze was filled with aggression. It was the way a man looks at a woman he is determined to possess.
Chloe Preston bit her lip and gave him a little push. "...You’re talking nonsense again."
"Let me go."
Donovan Xavier didn’t release her. His deep, dark eyes were fixed on her. "And what’s so nonsensical about it?"
"We’re adults. Anything is possible." As he spoke, he took her slightly cool hand and held it tightly in his. "Why are your hands so cold? Let me warm them up for you."
Chloe Preston, however, was frightened, terrified he might do something reckless.
Donovan Xavier saw the fear in her eyes and couldn’t help but chuckle. "Why are you so scared, hm?"
"I was just teasing you..."
Then, he let her go. His expression instantly returned to its usual calm composure. He straightened his clothes and started the car.
Wow, he changes his expression faster than you can flip a page!
They drove in silence.
As they passed a flower shop, Donovan Xavier looked at her and said in a deep voice, "I remember you like white roses. Want to buy a bouquet?"
It was amazing; even after four years, he still remembered what flowers I liked.
Chloe Preston shook her head. "Forget it..." she said, closing her eyes. She felt a little tired.
Donovan Xavier didn’t bother her, assuming she was sleepy. He kept driving, planning to head straight back to the apartment.
On the way, a van was parked at the entrance of a small hotel, and two people got out.
Donovan Xavier glanced over unintentionally, and a flicker of recognition made him stop the car abruptly.
He looked out the window. The two people were walking quickly, the brims of their hats pulled down low as they carried two large suitcases straight into the hotel.
Donovan Xavier’s brow furrowed slightly.
"What are you looking at?" Chloe Preston asked suddenly, leaning to one side.
Donovan Xavier paused for a few seconds before turning to look at her. He said with a straight face, "Chloe Preston, want to get a room with me?"
"What?"
"Get a room. Get in bed."
Instantly, Chloe Preston shot upright. Her gorgeous face was so red it looked like it could bleed. "It’s the middle of the day! How dare you say something like that!"
Not only did he dare to say it, but he said it so naturally, so matter-of-factly!
Donovan Xavier said, "And you don’t want to?"
"I recall that last night, you didn’t seem to get your fill."
I didn’t get my fill? Hah! The nerve of him, turning the tables on me! Last night, he was the one who was insatiable and couldn’t hold back at all.
Chloe Preston’s ears grew hot. "I don’t want to, and I’m not going! If you want to go, go by yourself!" she said, scrambling to get out of the car.
Donovan Xavier reached out, wrapped an arm around her slender waist, and pulled her into his embrace.
"Miss Quinn, why are you in such a rush to run away?" A faint smile played on his lips as he lowered his head and kissed her cheek.
It was a very, very gentle kiss.
Chloe Preston quickly tried to stop him. "Ahem, Donovan Xavier, I advise you not to do anything reckless!"
