CHAPTER 6: CHAPTER 6: CHLOE PRESTON, ARE YOU JEALOUS?

Donovan Xavier leaned in close to her ear and let out a deliberate scoff. "If I really did what I wanted, what could you do about it?"

Her face flushed, Chloe Preston reached out and struggled with all her might.

She was both radiant and pure, graceful and gentle. When she wasn’t smiling, she had an air of cool detachment, and her clear eyes shimmered as if filled with water. She looked docile but was unapproachable, a woman who could ensnare a man’s soul yet always remain just out of reach. She was the kind of woman who would make a man think of her day and night, his heart itching with unbearable desire as he tossed and turned, unable to sleep.

At this moment, her expression was a mixture of panic and frustration. The deep crimson flush on her face only added a touch of adorable charm.

Donovan noticed, and his lips curled with a hint of indulgence.

After a long moment, Chloe Preston grew still. She had struggled with all her might to push him away, yet he had trapped her in his embrace time and again, like a delicate little canary. Now, she had completely exhausted her strength.

"Tired?" Donovan leaned closer, tilting his head to whisper hoarsely by her ear.

His hot breath sent a ticklish tingle through her.

Chloe glared at him.

In the end, Chloe followed the man out of the car and into the hotel.

Ultimately, she was no match for him and could only compromise.

People passed by occasionally, casting glances toward them.

Chloe immediately lowered her head and pursed her lips. Walking by his side, she didn’t dare to look around.

Donovan took her small, cold hand in his and looked at her. "Nervous? I’m here to get a room with you, not to have some secret affair."

Flushed with embarrassment and frustration, Chloe quickly hushed him. "Shh! Can you please not talk?"

How can he say something like that with such a straight face! Shameless!

Donovan started walking ahead and remarked casually, "What are you so hesitant for? It’s not like we haven’t gotten a room before."

Chloe heard him. She kept her head down, her ears burning red and her cheeks puffed out in anger.

How can now be the same as before? Back then, they were boyfriend and girlfriend. But what are they now?

While checking in, Donovan remained perfectly calm and composed, exuding an air of noble indifference.

"One room?" the receptionist asked.

"Yes, the best one you have," Donovan replied.

The receptionist glanced at Chloe, paused, and then couldn’t help but add, "This lady... she doesn’t seem very willing?"

Donovan turned his head to look at Chloe, his eyes half-lidded. A slight smile touched his lips. "She’s just shy."

...

Then the man took the room card and led her to the room.

At the door, the two were about to enter when suddenly his phone rang.

Donovan took out his phone, glanced at the screen, and answered. "What is it?"

On the other end of the line, Faye Hughes’s soft voice was thick with tears. "Donovan, I have a fever. I feel terrible. Can you come over and check on me?"

It was the kind of voice that would move any man who heard it.

Chloe’s gaze flickered slightly. She’s sick. Surely he’ll go see her right away, won’t he?

Chloe’s face showed no emotion as she stepped forward, took the room card from his hand, opened the door, and stepped inside, closing it directly behind her.

He’s going to leave anyway. Since the room is already paid for, I might as well stay by myself. It would be a waste otherwise.

A few seconds later, there was a sudden knock on the door.

Startled, Chloe walked over and opened the door a crack.

"What are you up to?" the man’s deep, magnetic voice sounded from the other side.

Chloe opened the door wide, looking at him in shock.

He didn’t leave!

"You... why are you still here?"

Donovan leaned against the doorframe, lifting his gaze to meet hers. "If I’m not here, where should I be?" he asked in return. "I’m the one who paid for the room, yet Miss Quinn shuts me out. Isn’t that a little ungracious?"

Chloe avoided his gaze and pursed her lips. "I didn’t mean to lock you out."

I thought he was going to leave... I just didn’t want to be left standing in the hallway by myself.

Donovan entered the room, his hand wrapping around her slender waist. He leaned in close. "Not intentional? So you’re just being playful with me?"

His voice was deep and magnetic, and he spoke with a deliberate allure that sent her thoughts into a tizzy.

Chloe’s face reddened slightly as she pushed against his chest. "Faye has a fever. Why aren’t you going to see her?"

"I’m not a doctor," Donovan said. "Going there won’t cure her."

"You want me to see her?"

Chloe said nothing.

A faint, almost imperceptible smile touched Donovan’s lips. He raised a hand, grasped her chin firmly, and lowered his head to kiss her.

Chloe’s hands immediately clenched into fists.

His kisses trailed downwards. Closing his eyes, he leaned into her neck, lightly licking and biting at her skin.

Chloe winced from the slight pain, letting out a soft hiss.

The next second, he swept her up into his arms, carried her over, and tossed her onto the large bed.

The atmosphere in the room suddenly grew charged. They were both adults, and with the mood set like this, it was only natural for something to happen.

Chloe’s whole body tensed, and she stopped struggling.

Donovan leaned over and pressed down on her. His cool fingertips skimmed her blushing cheeks. His breathing was slightly ragged, yet he didn’t make another move.

Chloe glanced at him a couple of times before pushing him away and turning over. "If you’re worried about her, you should go be with her. I’ll be fine by myself."

He must still be thinking about Faye’s fever, she thought. He’s lost interest.

Donovan looked at her slender back, his eyes gradually deepening.

His Adam’s apple bobbed. He leaned over, his voice dry and hoarse. "Chloe, are you jealous?"

As he spoke, there was an unconscious hint of amusement in his voice.

Hearing this, Chloe’s heart gave a little tremble. Am I jealous? Of course not! He can be with whichever woman he wants. I... I stopped caring a long time ago!

Chloe pulled the covers over her head, her voice muffled. "I’m not jealous, not even a little bit! I’m just suddenly tired. I’m going to sleep..."

Donovan chuckled. "The only tough thing about you is your mouth."

"However, I do need to go out for a moment."

He reached out, tucked the covers around her, and murmured hoarsely in her ear, "I’m going out to buy..."

Chloe’s face flushed instantly upon hearing his words. This man is so indecent! So completely indecent!

Donovan stood up and casually straightened his clothes. "I’m off. You stay in bed and don’t go out. Don’t open the door for anyone."

"We’ll continue when I get back."

With that, he turned and left.

After leaving the room, he went straight to the front desk.

The receptionist noticed him approach. "Sir, how may I help you?"

"I need to check the check-in records for two people," Donovan said.

His expression was cold and severe, his dark eyes sharp, and his entire presence was overwhelming.

"I’m sorry, sir," the receptionist replied. "That’s guest privacy. We can’t disclose that information."

The next second, Donovan took a badge from his pocket. His voice was level. "Police."

「Meanwhile, in the room.」

Chloe leaned against the headboard, waiting for him. Faint bite marks were still visible on her neck.

But twenty minutes passed, and he still hadn’t returned.

Chloe turned her head, looked at the tightly closed door, and frowned slightly.

That man clearly said he was going out to buy condoms. Why isn’t he back yet? Is he having trouble picking a size?
