Chapter 259: Chapter 259 Greetings_1 Chapter 259: Chapter 259 Greetings_1 “You don’t have to say anymore, I already know.”
Bo Jingyan’s voice echoed simultaneously, interrupting Xia Qingtian’s words.
“You already knew?” Xia Qingtian did not mind being interrupted, just felt somewhat surprised, how could he have known?
Could it be that grandpa could not hold back and had revealed the lineage of the child in her belly ahead of time?
Before she could think any further, Bo Jingyan grabbed her hand, his grip a little too tight, causing her hand to ache, “Xia Qingtian, rest assured, I will take responsibility for you and for the kid in your belly.”
No matter if the child in Xia Qingtian’s belly belonged to Shen Yaxuan or some other man, in the future, the child would only carry his surname, Bo, and call him dad.
Upon hearing this, Xia Qingtian couldn’t help but embrace him, saying happily, “Mr. Bo, Bo Jingyan, I’m really happy.”
Bo Jingyan heaved a sigh and drew her closely into his arms.
After only a short while in his arms, Xia Qingtian frowned, and nudged him, signalling him to let go.
Bo Jingyan noticed her somewhat pale face and asked with a furrowed brow, “What’s wrong? Do you feel uncomfortable somewhere?”
Xia Qingtian touched her stomach tenderly with a smile, “No, it’s just that my belly is bigger now. Just now, when you were holding me, you bumped into it and it felt a bit unpleasant.”
While speaking, it was as if she had thought of something exciting and she suddenly caught Bo Jingyan’s hand, placing it on her swelling belly. With an excited suggestion in her voice, she said, “Why don’t you say hello to the baby in my belly?”
Bo Jingyan observed her smiling softly, her hands affectionately caressing her stomach. The thought that the blood flowing in this baby’s veins was Shen Yaxuan’s made him abruptly pull his hand away.
He was willing to accept this child rationally for the sake of Xia Qingtian, but…
He was unable to truly love this child unconditionally, to truly treat him as his own.
“What’s wrong?” Xia Qingtian looked up at Bo Jingyan with a look of surprise upon seeing his reaction.
Not wanting her to be disappointed, Bo Jingyan thought of her joyful expression earlier and provided an excuse, “I returned from a business trip yesterday and I stayed up all night looking after you. I’m a bit tired.”
Xia Qingtian felt something was off, but…
Looking at Bo Jingyan, she noticed there was indeed a hint of fatigue on his handsome face and her heart ached.
“I’ll move over to give you some space on the bed.” With that, she shifted to the side, freeing up half the bed. She patted the empty space, inviting, “Take a rest for a while.”
Indeed Bo Jingyan did feel a bit tired and did not refuse.
He laid down next to Xia Qingtian. Inhaling her faint lingering scent, he soon fell asleep.
…
Xia Qingtian’s condition was somewhat critical this time, resulting in the doctors insisting on her staying at the hospital for a few days longer.
During these days, Bo Jingyan remained with her in the hospital.
One day, the weather was quite pleasant.
Feeling bored staying in her room, Xia Qingtian had the urge to go for a walk.
Bo Jingyan went to find a wheelchair and took her outside for walk.
The sun outside was just right and the breeze was gentle. Taking a breath of fresh air, Xia Qingtian felt much better.
The hospital had done a good job with the landscaping and the view was quite nice.
However, Xia Qingtian’s attention was quickly drawn to a cotton candy stand nearby.
During her days in the hospital, the doctor had advised her to maintain a light diet. She had not eaten anything with much taste lately, to the point where everything started to taste a bit bitter. She desperately craved the sweet cotton candy.
Just as she was summoning the courage to ask Bo Jingyan to buy her one, the cotton candy stand had already sold out. The owner packed up his stall and left, leaving several customers disappointed.
Xia Qingtian enviously watched as a child nearby enjoyed small bites of cotton candy. She couldn’t help but lick her lips, practically aching for some.
Suddenly, a sharp pain in her forehead brought her back to reality.
It was then she realized that Bo Jingyan had been calling for her for quite some time and had snapped his fingers before her face in an attempt to get her attention.
“What’s wrong?” Xia Qingtian shifted her focus back and asked in confusion.
Bo Jingyan showed immense patience as he repeated his words, “The wind started to blow, let’s go back so you don’t catch a cold.”
“Oh, okay.” Xia Qingtian nodded her head in disappointment, offering no resistance.
The two returned to the ward.
Xia Qingtian, perhaps due to her pregnancy, could not get the image of cotton candy out of her head.
She really craved it, but she felt bad about telling Bo Jingyan. It would make her seem too childish.
She was not an immature kid.
Thus, she was feeling a bit down.
Bo Jingyan gave her a thoughtful glance and then suddenly said, “There’s something I need to attend to at the company, I’ll be back later. Take care of yourself, see you later.”
Xia Qingtian nodded, “Okay.”
After Bo Jingyan left, she felt drowsy and decided to take a nap.
Perhaps it was because she desperately wanted to eat cotton candy, in her dreams, she could even smell its sweetness.
Finally, she woke up out of hunger.
Xia Qingtian opened her eyes to find a fluffy pink cotton candy in front of her.
“Ah…” she exclaimed in surprise.
Seeing her so happy, Bo Jingyan’s dark eyes softened, he said urging her with his voice, “Here, take it.”
Xia Qingtian reached to accept the cotton candy instinctively and took a bite.
“Is it good?” Bo Jingyan asked her.
Xia Qingtian grinned ear-to-ear, “Mhm, it’s fluffy, sweet, and absolutely delicious.”
“Finish it and I’ll make you another.” Bo Jingyan’s indulgent tone was barely detectable.
Upon hearing his words, Xia Qingtian finally noticed a cotton candy machine nearby and that Bo Jingyan’s clothes were slightly dusted with sugar threads.
The hand she was feeding herself with paused for a second as she realized something.
“Mr. Bo, did you make this cotton candy yourself?” Xia Qingtian asked, amazed.
“Yes,” Bo Jingyan confirmed, “Didn’t you really want to eat it?”
“Yes, I really did want to eat it,” Xia Qingtian nodded, before it occurred to her, “How did you know I wanted to eat cotton candy?”
She was afraid that Bo Jingyan would find her childish or greedy and had been embarrassed to bring it up.
A rare smile spread across Bo Jingyan’s face, “When we were strolling outside, your eyes were practically glued to the cotton candy in the child’s hand.”
Unaware that Bo Jingyan had noticed her longing, Xia Qingtian felt a sweet feeling in her heart, even sweeter than the cotton candy in her mouth.
“I…” But, she didn’t want Bo Jingyan to think of her as greedy and defended herself, “It wasn’t me who wanted to eat it, it was the baby in my belly.”
As she spoke, Xia Qingtian gently touched her belly, conveniently shifting the blame to the baby.
Mentioning the baby reminded Bo Jingyan of Shen Yaxuan’s betrayal and the child’s lineage, wiping the smile off his face instantly.
