CHAPTER 107: SHARP TONGUED

Cheng Anya raised an eyebrow playfully. "Good girl, how do we arrange it?"

"That’s simple! Have brother find someone to harass future second aunt, and then have second uncle coincidentally play the hero saving the beauty," Ye Kelan clapped her hands, smiling. "I’m so smart! Let’s do it that way."

"So cheesy!" Cheng Anya and Ye Tianyu both complained simultaneously. Xu Nuo was not interested in this.

The only thing she didn’t understand was why her honest nature produced a girl like Ye Kelan.

"Who just said hero saving the beauty was cheesy?" Ye Tianyu said. "Your idea is even worse; it’s been overdone in prime-time dramas."

Ye Kelan said, "Brother, Dad said, the more melodramatic, the more interesting it is. He was also very melodramatic when he chased after Mommy, right, Mommy?"

Xu Nuo feigned ignorance.

Ye Tianyu checked his watch and waved his hand. "Grandma, Mommy, I have to go out."

"Brother, remember to find someone to harass second aunt!" Ye Kelan called out behind him, unwilling to give up. Ye Tianyu temporarily feigned deafness, not hearing what his sister said.

Wen Nuan woke up at night.

As soon as she woke up, she felt a stinging pain in her arm. It was truly bad; she probably had quite a few stitches.

Wen’s mother was in the ward with her. After such a major incident, Wen’s father and mother had naturally received the news. Ever since Wen Nuan entered the entertainment industry, the elderly couple had been very concerned about Wen Nuan’s activities, even reading entertainment news and magazines.

This time, hearing about her accident, they hastily called Cai Xiaojing and rushed to the hospital.

When Wen’s father and mother arrived, Ye Feimo and Lin Ning also left, as it was inconvenient for them to stay. Wen’s father hadn’t been feeling well recently, so Wen’s mother sent him back home for the night.

Wen Nuan’s arm ached intensely, and her head was wrapped in gauze. Her first thought upon waking was, ’Will I be disfigured?’

She was a professional actress and cared deeply about her face.

Wen’s mother looked at her disapprovingly. She didn’t care about anything else, just her little face? This made her angry. Wen’s mother glared at her, and Wen Nuan shrank her shoulders, feigning grievance with tearful eyes.

Seeing her daughter’s expression, Wen’s mother couldn’t help but sigh. Knowing she was hungry, she took out the porridge and bone broth from the thermos, feeding her spoonful by spoonful.

"How did you get hurt? Why were you so careless?"

"Mom, it’s nothing, it’s not serious. You and Dad don’t worry. Accidents often happen during filming. You know I’m always a bit clumsy, but it’s fine." Wen Nuan comforted her mother, enduring the pain and smiling brightly. "It doesn’t hurt anymore."

"Stop pretending. Thirteen stitches, and you say it doesn’t hurt? Luckily, nothing major was broken." Wen’s mother glared at her. Wen Nuan pouted and said nothing more.

Cai Xiaojing went to buy some fruit. When she returned and saw Wen Nuan awake, she felt relieved.

After Wen Nuan drank the porridge and soup, Cai Xiaojing said, "Auntie, you should go home and rest tonight. I’ll stay with Wen Nuan."

"Oh, no, how can I? Miss Cai, you’ve been busy running around, you must be tired. Nuannuan usually causes you enough trouble; how can I trouble you further? I’ll stay with her; you go home and rest." Wen’s mother was a very traditional woman. If her child was injured, she would naturally stay by their side all night. How could she bother Cai Xiaojing?

Normally, when Wen Nuan called home, she would always speak highly of Cai Xiaojing, and she was quite grateful to Cai Xiaojing.

"Auntie, you’re too polite. Just call me Xiaojing. I’m her manager, and it’s my duty to handle these matters for her. Auntie, if reporters sneak in during the night, it would be difficult for you to stop them, and you wouldn’t know how to handle it. It’s better if I stay. You should go back and rest. Wen Nuan isn’t in any serious danger, and she wouldn’t want you to be exhausted here."

Wen Nuan cleverly interjected, "That’s right, Mom, you should go back and rest. You won’t sleep well in the hospital."

Wen’s mother considered it carefully, then nodded. After a few instructions, she finally left the hospital.

"Sister Xiaojing, I didn’t cause any trouble for the crew, did I?"

"How could you not cause trouble? Time is already tight, and now you have to film ’Beauty Unparalleled.’ Director Zhang is almost tearing his hair out, but don’t worry about that. Focus on recovering from your injury first," Cai Xiaojing said. "This time, the martial arts instructor adjusted the angle incorrectly; it was an accident."

"Hmm, I understand." Wen Nuan didn’t mind, but she was just a bit dejected, feeling like she had burdened the crew again.

"’Beauty Unparalleled’ is only a ten-minute scene, right? Does it really need half a month to film?" Wen Nuan asked, perplexed. Lin Ning said Bai Xiowen’s scenes were only ten minutes long. She found it unbelievable; a two-hour movie called "Beauty Unparalleled," with the female lead having only ten minutes of screen time, would almost make her a mere extra.

Everyone else’s scenes were already finished. She only needed to perform for editing, which shouldn’t be difficult. She had nothing to do; this was a post-production matter.

Cai Xiaojing shook her head. "In the original script for ’Beauty Unparalleled,’ the female lead had ninety minutes of screen time. It was cut to ten minutes purely because Lin Ning was dissatisfied with Bai Xiowen. You’re reshooting the scenes Bai Xiowen had cut. Although it’s only ninety minutes of footage, the requirements for movies and TV dramas are different. Filming it will be more difficult and time-consuming."

Wen Nuan looked at her uninjured hand, hesitating for a moment. "What did the doctor say about when I can be discharged?"

"You’ll need a week. You also need another precise brain scan," Cai Xiaojing said.

Wen Nuan shook her head. "I’ll be discharged tomorrow and return to the set. My forehead isn’t severely injured; the swelling should go down by tomorrow, and makeup can cover it. There’s no need to film full body shots. I’ll just film some individual shots and emotional scenes first."

"You’re crazy!"

"It’s fine, I can do it..."

"Who says you can?" Ye Feimo’s cold voice cut into the ward. His tall, upright figure was already standing at the doorway, looking coldly at Wen Nuan, his dark eyes unfathomable.

Wen Nuan was startled, not expecting to see Ye Feimo here.

Cai Xiaojing tactfully exited the ward.

Ye Feimo had not left. When Wen’s father and mother arrived, he and Lin Ning had to leave. Lin Ning went back, but Ye Feimo drove around the hospital and then returned, waiting downstairs the entire time.

He only came up after Wen’s mother left.

As soon as he came up, he heard Wen Nuan talking about being discharged and continuing to film. He was both worried and angry, so his tone was naturally not very pleasant.

After their argument that night, they hadn’t talked much. In the morning, she saw him and Han Bi together in the apartment elevator. Wen Nuan naturally assumed Ye Feimo and Han Bi’s old flames had reignited, and they had had a passionate night.

So, she didn’t have a good expression towards Ye Feimo either. "I want to be discharged and continue filming. Only my arm is injured; it’s not like I can’t act anymore."

Ye Feimo walked over, looking down at her. This girl was so stubborn that he wanted to smash open her head and dissect it to see what was inside, wondering why she seemed to get dumber with every blow.

"Before you play the hero, please read Anning International’s contract carefully. All work is subject to command. I told you to stay in the hospital, so you better stay here. You are not allowed to go anywhere until the stitches are removed," Ye Feimo said coldly, his tone already suppressing his temper.

Wen Nuan remembered Han Bi’s expression in front of her and coldly scoffed, "What right do you have to control me?"

Ye Feimo’s face instantly darkened. He suddenly lowered his head, his face so close she could clearly count his eyelashes, startling Wen Nuan. His deep gaze coldly fixed on her. "What kind of tantrum are you throwing?"

"Who’s throwing a tantrum with you?" Wen Nuan avoided him. Ye Feimo was too close; his breath wafted over her, and Wen Nuan was unaccustomed to such intimacy, even though they had shared much more intimate moments.

Her heart suddenly began to race.

Ye Feimo said in a deep voice, "If you’re not throwing a tantrum, then heal your injuries well in the hospital."

"I’ll delay the crew’s progress," Wen Nuan said, her gaze coldly fixed on Ye Feimo. "Don’t you hate it most when employees delay work with the excuse of illness?"

Ye Feimo was so flustered by Wen Nuan’s retort that he couldn’t utter a word. This damn girl was sometimes so sharp-tongued.

"By the way, it’s so late; why are you at the hospital?" Wen Nuan eyed him, asking softly, "You’re not here to see me, are you?"

Ye Feimo was exasperated. He was already here, and she still asked such a foolish question. Was that reasonable? He was furious and said in a deep voice, "Who would go out of their way to see you? I came to see an old family friend, and I’m just seeing you coincidentally."

Wen Nuan said "Oh" and smiled sweetly. "Well, you’ve seen your friend, so I won’t hold you up. Thank you, Mr. Ye, for your care for employees. I’m truly flattered."

"Wen Nuan, why are you being so sarcastic? Are you still angry about that night?" Ye Feimo suddenly asked. Wen Nuan was prickly all over, and her words stung. She probably didn’t know what he had done behind her back.

"No, I forgot long ago," Wen Nuan said, appearing honest and innocent.

Ye Feimo didn’t know what to say to her. Both fell silent. Wen Nuan felt a slight discomfort in her heart but didn’t know why. She sat there, her face grim, feeling sullen.

The pain in her arm was nothing compared to the discomfort in her heart.

The image of him and Han Bi together that morning flashed in her mind, like a fishbone caught in her throat.

She didn’t speak, and Ye Feimo didn’t speak either, staring at her intently. Wen Nuan felt completely uncomfortable under his gaze. Even a dead person would jump out of their coffin if looked at like that.
