The CEO's Substitute Ex-Wife
Chapter 238: Desperate Accusation
CHAPTER 238: DESPERATE ACCUSATION
"Anxious, are we?" he mocked, stepping closer. "Tang Shuwen, do you think you can live happily after hurting an innocent woman? Aren’t you supposed to be responsible? For the sake of a child, you married Chen Xueru. Now another woman is pregnant with your child. Are you going to divorce her and marry this new woman? How long will you keep hurting Yuning?"
"Shut up!" Tang Shuwen snapped, his voice deep. He wouldn’t allow Gu Rui to say another word about his situation. He was utterly distressed that so many problems had surfaced right after his wedding.
Zhao Yuning was pregnant...
Damn it, after Zhao Yuning returned to the country, he had only been with her twice, and they had taken precautions. How did she get pregnant? If Xueru knew about this, she would surely smile, offer him her blessings, and then file for divorce.
No!
"Tang Shuwen, if you betray Yuning again, I won’t let you off. Her health is already poor. That day, Chen Xueru almost caused her to miscarry. The doctor suggested she have surgery to remove the child. Her body isn’t strong enough to bear the pain of pregnancy, yet she’d rather die than give up the child. How can you bear to hurt such a devoted woman?" Gu Rui pressed on, his eyes blazing with anger.
Tang Shuwen remained silent. Yuning’s health was indeed poor, but a selfish thought now crept into his mind: Why didn’t she abort the child? It would be better for everyone.
He then felt that his thought was too malicious.
"Gu Rui, how is she?"
"How else could she be? Coincidentally, she’s in the same hospital as you. Tang Shuwen, if you still have a conscience, go see her," Gu Rui said coldly. "Otherwise... if this matter gets out, no one will look good."
Tang Shuwen suddenly looked up, his eyes narrowing into a long, thin line, filled with scorn. "Gu Rui, are you threatening me? You should know who Tang Shuwen is. Your petty tricks are nothing more than vulgar, third-rate tactics in my eyes. Don’t embarrass yourself in front of me."
Gu Rui’s expression changed slightly. He, of course, knew who Tang Shuwen was: the head of Longmen, accustomed to bloodshed. Who in both the underworld and legitimate circles didn’t fear Tang Shuwen’s name?
They said Young Master Tang was as gentle as jade, refined and polite. However, he was notoriously a smiling tiger, swift with a blade, steeped in blood. Who dared provoke him? This man was known in the legitimate world as a gentle and noble, but in the underworld, he was the terrifying Yama, feared by all.
He had his selfish motives, and it was no big deal that Tang Shuwen saw through them.
"What’s so good about Chen Xueru? How does she compare to Yuning? Since it’s for the sake of a child, and you love Yuning, aren’t you even more hopeful for her child?" Gu Rui asked.
Tang Shuwen sneered. "I think you want to win Xueru back, for your own sake, not for Yuning."
"What are you talking about? She’s just an old shoe I threw away. Do you think everyone likes picking up discarded things like you?" Gu Rui spoke without thinking, and his face instantly changed color. Before he even saw Tang Shuwen move, a throwing knife whizzed past his cheek and deeply embedded itself into the wall. The end of the knife still trembled slightly, and Tang Shuwen’s face was as fierce as a demon’s.
Gu Rui felt a burning sensation on his cheek, utterly shocked. He touched his face absently, the heat slowly registering in his nerves. He looked at his hand and saw it covered in blood. The throwing knife had grazed his cheek, leaving a cut.
"Tang Shuwen, you..." His left cheek was cut, the wound not deep but bleeding quite a bit. His eyes burned with fury. Clasping his face, he glared angrily at Tang Shuwen. "I’m going to sue you. You wait for the lawyer’s letter."
Tang Shuwen’s eyes narrowed dangerously, and he said coldly, "Gu Rui, killing you would be like killing a cockroach. Clean up your mouth. If I hear you say one more negative word about Xueru, next time that throwing knife will go straight into your mouth."
His voice was cold and ruthless, his face like ice. Coupled with his uncanny skill, Gu Rui was momentarily stunned. He had connections with some major gangs in A City, but he usually saw bodyguards protecting their bosses, not bosses demonstrating such abilities. He had thought Tang Shuwen was merely relying on Longmen and Tang Si’s protection, gaining an empty reputation. But he hadn’t expected him to show such a skill. If he had aimed for his throat just now, Gu Rui wouldn’t even know how he died.
Just because he said something bad about Chen Xueru? He got this angry?
He hadn’t intended to insult Chen Xueru; he only wanted to provoke him and create a rift between the couple. Tang Shuwen’s heart was as clear as a mirror, and he must have known this, yet he still dared to act.
Was he crazy?
Gu Rui wasn’t some random nobody to be bullied like this.
Didn’t Tang Shuwen consider the consequences?
"Get out!" Tang Shuwen said coldly. Xueru and Xiao Nian would be back soon, and he didn’t want them to hear anything they shouldn’t. Gu Rui was indeed frightened by Tang Shuwen, and his injury needed attention.
As he opened the door, he came face to face with Chen Xueru and Xiao Nian returning. Xiao Nian was expressionless. Chen Xueru was slightly surprised to see a wound on Gu Rui’s face. Gu Rui gave a mocking smile, walked past the mother and son, his shoulder brushing Chen Xueru, causing her to stagger back a few steps before regaining her balance.
What happened to Gu Rui?
Chen Xueru entered. Tang Shuwen looked at the small knife. She tilted her head and also saw it, looking at Tang Shuwen in surprise. Then, recalling Gu Rui’s injury, she felt a slight unease in her heart. What had they talked about that it came to blows?
"Xueru, pull out the knife."
Tang Shuwen said. She nodded, pulled out the throwing knife, and handed it to him. "Since when does the hospital have something like this? I had no idea."
Tang Shuwen smiled faintly. "No matter where you go, you always need a weapon for self-defense. The hospital is no different."
Chen Xueru smiled, then sat down with Xiao Nian, giving him a drink. He quietly drank his beverage. Tang Shuwen glanced at Chen Xueru, then reached out and held her hand. She smiled. He remembered Gu Rui saying that Yuning had come to see him but was blocked by her, almost causing a miscarriage.
He smiled and patted the bed, inviting her to sit down. Chen Xueru sat down. Tang Shuwen reached out and embraced her, but said nothing. Chen Xueru held him, a little worried.
"What’s wrong? Is something on your mind?"
"Nothing, I just want to hold you," Tang Shuwen said, murmuring, "It’s alright, I’ll handle it."
After the New Year, Wen Nuan plunged into a busy period of exams. She balanced attending unavoidable events with preparing for and taking her tests. Her days were extremely hectic and intense.
During exam week, people’s emotions are often strained, and she stayed up late studying almost every night.
