The CEO's Substitute Ex-Wife
Chapter 269: Vicious Twist of Fate
CHAPTER 269: VICIOUS TWIST OF FATE
No one expected Julie to suddenly open fire.
Not even John expected it.
Julie gave a cold, alluring smile and said coolly, "It seems she truly is important to you; she is indeed a trump card. I was just testing how important this so-called trump card truly is to you. The effect is very satisfying."
This woman was cunning, perceptive, and utterly vicious.
This was a true underworld woman: just as ruthless as any man, brave, perceptive, and shrewd, with strong on-the-spot judgment. Just this action alone revealed her as an extraordinarily intelligent woman.
John also understood Julie’s meaning and looked at Mo Xiaobai defiantly. "Mo Yeyan, I want you to immediately stop pursuing us. Do not issue bounties on any of us. In addition, I demand one hundred billion US dollars in compensation. I want to rebuild my organization. We’ll consider this incident as never having happened. You are not allowed to bother me again in the future. I know the Mafia’s rules; your past godfathers have always kept their word. Once they agree, they won’t back out. What happened at the pier today will quickly spread throughout the underworld. If anything happens to us, everyone will know you’ve broken your word, which would be a huge blow to the Mafia’s reputation. I imagine you don’t want that. How about we settle this by you paying some money and abandoning the pursuit? I also guarantee I’ll release her."
Her shoulder was in intense pain...
Wen Nuan was swaying, her shoulder burning with agony, blood steadily flowing from the wound. She was drenched in cold sweat. Julie’s gun was still pointed at Wen Nuan. If Ye Feimo went back on his word, she would shoot Wen Nuan dead.
The atmosphere instantly became tense.
Suddenly, someone reported, "Boss, a car is coming."
John narrowed his eyes. "A car?"
"Mo Yeyan, did you bring people?" John roared.
Julie was enraged and cursed, "How dare you criticize us when you yourself haven’t kept any promises?"
Mo Xiaobai gave a cold chuckle. "Don’t worry, John, if I had brought people, why would there be only one car?"
As he spoke, a black Rolls-Royce pulled up. Mo Chen got out of the car, politely greeted everyone, and pulled a small suitcase from the back seat.
John’s eyes narrowed, and he had a bad feeling. Mo Xiaobai said, "Don’t worry, John, I just have something to give you."
Mo Chen opened the suitcase. Inside, a seven or eight-year-old girl was tied up, her face pale. Upon seeing John, she suddenly burst into tears. "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy save me, save me..."
John’s limbs went weak, and he stumbled backward a few steps. Julie was also stunned. Neither of them understood why Angela, who was in America, would appear in Rome and be tied up.
John knew that his line of work was dangerous. To avoid endangering his only child, he had entrusted his daughter to others to raise her since she was young. He rarely visited her, and although their father-daughter bond was strong, they rarely met. Few people knew John had a daughter, and that this daughter was his Achilles’ heel. When he fled America, John had thought about taking his daughter with him.
Later, Julie said that since no one knew Angela, taking her along would attract more attention to their escape. So John stayed in America for a while, knowing his daughter was safe. The Mafia indeed hadn’t found his daughter, so he relaxed. He never expected his daughter to be captured.
"You..." John was shocked. He rushed forward. "Release my daughter quickly!"
In just a moment, the entire situation was reversed.
Mo Chen said, "John, did you think we didn’t know you had a daughter? Matters between adults are always resolved between ourselves; we would never threaten children. So, we had no intention of touching your daughter. But clearly, you don’t understand the rules of this game and insist on dragging innocent people into it. If anything unfortunate happens to your precious daughter today, it will be because of you, and you can’t blame anyone else."
They truly hadn’t intended to involve John’s daughter. It was Ye Feimo, fearing John’s ruthless methods and not having enough time to save Wen Nuan, who wanted someone to hold John back. So, he had Angela brought to Rome.
Normally, in such situations, they wouldn’t let children witness such brutality.
"Release my daughter! Quickly, release my daughter!" John roared. Regardless of what others thought, he was a good father.
Mo Xiaobai said, "Get her down!"
Wen Nuan had been hanging for so long and shot; she must be in agony. She needed to be rushed to the hospital immediately, or her life would be in danger. Now that they both held a trump card, things became much simpler.
"Release her! Get her down!" John ordered his men.
Julie roared, "Don’t you dare!"
John looked at Julie in shock. She said coldly, "Don’t release her. You go over there. If anything goes wrong, open fire immediately."
A man in black, following her instructions, aimed at Wen Nuan. Mo Xiaobai and Mo Chen exchanged glances. Mo Xiaobai pointed his gun at Angela. "You don’t want your daughter’s life anymore?"
"No, no! Don’t shoot, please don’t shoot!" John roared.
Julie, however, pushed him away. The woman looked at them coldly. "If you want to kill, then kill, do as you please. Angela is not related to me; why should I give up everything for her? Don’t be foolish."
Angela burst into tears...
"Julie!" John rushed forward, intending to fight her, but she slapped John across the face. "Wake up! If we release that woman, we’ll be at their mercy! Have you forgotten your original intention? Have you forgotten the lives of these brothers?"
Mo Xiaobai and Mo Chen exchanged glances. It seemed the one in charge had changed; it was now Julie, not John.
How pathetic!
Mo Xiaobai looked up at Wen Nuan, who was still hanging in the air. Mo Xiaobai’s gaze darkened. He couldn’t drag this out any longer; otherwise, Wen Nuan would collapse from excessive blood loss. She might even faint.
"Since she’s useless, I don’t think Angela is needed anymore either," Mo Xiaobai said, twisting Angela’s neck. John roared "No!" desperately shouting for his men to release Wen Nuan. However, no one obeyed his command.
John was in a panic. Julie gave a cold smile. The whole plan was so perfectly executed; she wouldn’t allow anyone to ruin it, not even John. "Accept your fate; Angela cannot be saved."
John, after all, deeply cared for his daughter, his only precious child. Seeing Mo Xiaobai make a move, he was filled with fear and suddenly lunged at Julie, snatching her gun. Julie hadn’t expected John to retaliate. She slapped him, and a whistle suddenly pierced the air. Mo Chen kicked the suitcase away, drew his pistol from his waist, and Mo Xiaobai rushed towards Wen Nuan. Julie thought, "This is bad!" She suddenly grabbed John, using him as a shield. Mo Chen fired, and the bullet struck John in the chest.
