The CEO's Substitute Ex-Wife
Chapter 455: Unforgotten Blue
CHAPTER 455: UNFORGOTTEN BLUE
The sunlight was bright. A subtle shadow of anger, barely noticeable unless one looked closely, lay in the light around him. His deep, intelligent eyes were fixed on her stunning face. They burned intensely but with a slight coolness.
The smile that spread across his lips didn’t reach his eyes.
Wushuang smiled with breathtaking grace, like a girl in the throes of first love, willing to throw away the world for her beloved. "I do like him. Why else would I pursue him?"
Kaka frowned. His hands were tucked into the pockets of his casual trousers. He turned and walked away. Wushuang raised an eyebrow, quickly following and affectionately hooking her arm through his. "You still haven’t answered me."
"I’m not a woman. How would I know about pursuing men? You’ve asked the wrong person," Kaka retorted stiffly. He found a quieter spot and sat down. There were many children playing on the beach today, their laughter sweet to the ear. Kaka enjoyed the atmosphere.
Living in the darkness for too long always makes one long for the sunshine.
Kaka was no exception.
Wushuang sat beside Kaka and nudged him with her foot. "Why the long face? It’s not the first day you’ve known I like Long Chengtian."
"Wushuang, Long Chengtian is retaliating against you. He doesn’t genuinely like you," Kaka said earnestly. "There are so many men in this world. Why must you like him? He can’t touch you with the Mafia behind you, let alone me. If he can’t harm you physically, he can wound you emotionally. Why give him the chance to hurt you?"
"You all say Chengtian is using me and hurting me. Am I so unlikeable that no one can truly like me?" Wushuang countered coolly, a hint of displeasure in her tone. "How do you know Chengtian isn’t sincere about me?"
"Wushuang, everything has its limit. You can’t force things," Kaka’s tone became serious. He didn’t understand why Wushuang was so stubborn, insisting on Long Chengtian. What was so great about him?
There were countless young talents from the Mafia and the First Terror Organization, just like Long Chengtian. Why did it have to be Long Chengtian? Kaka genuinely didn’t understand. When he first returned from Special Agent Island, Little White told him Wushuang liked a man, the executive of ABC. He was utterly shocked and almost rushed to Rome. Driven by curiosity, he investigated Long Chengtian and discovered that Wushuang and Long Chengtian had been entangled for two years while he was on Special Agent Island, and it wasn’t just an act.
Wushuang rarely had such patience with anyone, even with him in the past.
Kaka’s feelings were incredibly complex.
Wushuang said, "I came here to hear how you pursue people, not to be lectured."
"Sorry, I don’t specialize in that. It’s not my forte," Kaka said, spreading his hands to show his helplessness. His impression of Long Chengtian wasn’t very good, and he didn’t know him well, so he certainly had no advice on how Wushuang should pursue him.
Wushuang playfully punched him. Kaka laughed and grabbed her fist, murmuring, "Wild." Wushuang laughed and pulled away. "No advice, then no advice. I refuse to believe I can’t win over Long Chengtian!"
"That’s the spirit. I support you in principle." Kaka clasped his hands together, giving her a free, non-committal smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes, hazy and vague. Wushuang accepted it, then lay down on the sand, quietly sunbathing.
Kaka glanced at her from the corner of his eye. Wushuang had closed her eyes. A delicate flush graced her porcelain-white face, making her look particularly lovely and beautiful. He clenched his fist. For a moment, there was nothing to say.
The waves crashed against the rocks, an insistent sound. The tide ebbed and flowed, leaving only the sound of the waves.
"Kaka, do you miss **Hǎilán**?" Wushuang asked softly. The sound of her voice was blurred by the waves, like a wisp of smoke, quickly dissipating, leaving only a faint sadness. That name was a taboo for everyone.
Wushuang rarely asked about Hǎilán, but she missed her deeply.
It had been over a decade. Thinking about it occasionally, she felt a profound sense of pity. If Hǎilán were still alive... how wonderful it would be if Hǎilán were still alive.
"Yes, I do!" Kaka looked out at the distant sea. The blue-green water merged almost seamlessly with the blue sky. White waves rolled in constantly, as if wanting to engulf everything. **Hǎilán**...
Blue sea, blue sky.
He loved the seaside. At Special Agent Island, he enjoyed the sea breeze, playing the guitar, or sometimes just lying there, letting the day pass. He had a special affinity for the sea because of a certain name.
**Hǎilán** (Sea Blue), the name was so perfect. Every time he was by the sea, he couldn’t help but think of her.
Her mischievous smile, her cunning, alluring eyes, and their innocent childhood love.
For a very long time, he believed he would spend his entire life with Hǎilán. He had long considered her his little wife, the person he was meant to protect since childhood.
For a long time after Hǎilán’s death, he couldn’t accept the news.
He had once hoped for a miracle.
Since Xu Nuo could die and still live on by possessing someone else’s body, perhaps Hǎilán could, too. Wait a little longer... maybe one day Hǎilán would return.
He wasn’t the only one who thought this. Many people did. After all, there was Xu Nuo’s precedent, and Hǎilán herself was such a unique person. Perhaps she wasn’t dead. He genuinely wished to see Hǎilán one more time.
He remembered making a pact with Hǎilán when they were children: he could only love her for his entire life.
She and Wushuang were very similar in this respect—both were very domineering.
"If Hǎilán hadn’t died, you’d probably have children by now," Wushuang laughed. This was a fact she couldn’t deny. In Kaka’s heart, Hǎilán held a special place, regardless of whether she was alive or dead.
His childhood sweetheart.
"If Hǎilán hadn’t died, there would be many possibilities. But she died, and there is only one," Kaka said with a smile, looking at the sea with a deep fondness. The blue was truly beautiful. "If Hǎilán were still alive and we had grown up, maybe she would have met a better man than me. We might have gone our separate ways, like other childhood sweethearts, or we might have stayed together until death. Or perhaps I would have fallen for another woman, breaking my promise to her. There are too many possibilities. But she left, so she will live in our hearts forever."
His and Wushuang’s grief for Hǎilán was certainly no less than Ye Sanshao’s and Cheng Anya’s.
From a young age, Hǎilán and Kaka shared a special rapport. After her health stabilized, she spent most of the year with Kaka. They were intended to be engaged. The adults were delighted by their connection and always encouraged it.
As Hǎilán grew up, she spent more time with Wushuang and Ye Wei, going on adventures. Wushuang and Kaka were already close, their bond also being a childhood friendship. The children naturally grew closer.
Later, Kaka entered intense training, and time was short. Hǎilán spent most of her time exploring with Wushuang and Ye Wei, only occasionally visiting him.
Wushuang was particularly envious of Hǎilán when they were children.
