The Chef Rules the Last Days
Chapter 134 - 134 131 Yan City
134: Chapter 131: Yan City 134: Chapter 131: Yan City Li Chuan had been watching from afar, and when he saw that the farce was over, he stepped forward, “That wild cat is getting more and more like Lu Chen.”
Rong Bai gave him a glance and nodded.
The girl’s aura when she was angry really did resemble Lu Chen’s, quite intimidating.
“Admiral Rong…” Both sides of Bai Ling’s cheeks were swollen, her mouth smeared with blood from her nose.
Rong Bai looked down at her with a serious expression, “That kid couldn’t have been more than ten years old, and you still went through with hitting him?”
“I was just trying to protect myself…” She clutched at his trouser leg, tears streaming down, stinging her swollen cheeks as they flowed.
Rong Bai stepped back a few paces, a trace of impatience on his face, “Since they didn’t kill you, you’re still a superpower user in the team.
Take care of your own wounds.”
Once they had walked off, Li Chuan sneered at Bai Ling with merciless mockery, “You’re truly the weakest Dual Ability User I’ve ever seen.”
Both women were Dual Ability Users, yet their combat power was worlds apart.
With the show over, he strolled away leisurely with his hands in his pockets.
Subjected to continuous ridicule and mocking, Bai Ling’s fists clenched tighter and tighter.
When Ling Ye returned to the tent, he moved his ankle, observing the scabbed wound with a complex look in his eyes.
The stench of blood was too heavy on the hillside; it wasn’t a place to stay for long.
They struggled till dawn and were set to sail again.
The number of regular convoy teams had dwindled that day, shrinking to less than a third of their original size, and the outlook for Admiral Rong’s army was not optimistic either.
Of five hundred soldiers, over a hundred were lost last night.
When he heard this, Lu Chen’s brows furrowed tightly, “What about taking a detour around the city?”
Rong Bai sighed, “The route is too long, and we’re running low on bullets.
Most people won’t survive without firearms.”
So, sooner or later, they were all going to die, thought Su Mo with a darkened expression.
“Let’s set off,” Lu Chen said no more, only tightening his grip on Su Mo’s hand.
The two returned to the vehicle, where Ling Ye’s complexion looked much better than in previous days.
Occasionally, he also sneaked glances at Su Mo, quickly turning his head away when she caught his gaze.
Now Su Mo was hardly in the mood to tease him.
She turned to ask Lu Chen, “Is the ammunition in your ‘Space’ enough for an emergency?”
The man shook his head, “That’s just my personal armory; there isn’t much ammunition.”
Su Mo looked out of the window, where each soldier’s face was taut, their expressions grim.
She couldn’t help but sigh.
“Once we’re in the city, we’ll try to keep our people safe,” Li Qian said from the passenger seat, his spiritual power continuously emanating from his mind, with a dense return of information, “There are many zombies in the city, and their Spiritual Power Users will probably choose the backstreets.”
Yan City was a huge bustling metropolis.
Upon entering, they were met with towering buildings everywhere and streets that led in all directions.
Their vehicles descended from the elevated roads and entered the city streets.
In the very center of the city, a very tall building had a huge clock face on its facade, with scales indicating the time, but the hour hand was nowhere to be seen.
Rong Bai ordered everyone to secure their guns, to use only those with silencers, and to refrain from using any others.
Although their large contingent had greatly diminished, they still made quite a long line on the narrow city streets.
Su Mo murmured softly as she looked through the window at the gloomy sky, “The birds that attacked us that day, there’s not a single one in the sky today.”
There were also fewer zombies on the road they took than when they first entered the city.
Not just her, but everyone in the vehicle realized this.
“Pass me the walkie-talkie,” Su Mo reached out her hand, and Li Qian handed it to her.
There were two buttons, and a vertical antenna, she felt a bit embarrassed, “How…
do you use this?”
“Press here,” Lu Chen pointed to a black button.
Su Mo nodded her head and began to speak, “Rong Bai, are you familiar with Yan City?”
The walkie-talkie crackled with a response, “I’ll ask around.”
A moment later, the voice came through again, heavier and grave, “It’s spiders, this city was renowned for brewing alcohol with spiders and for pharmaceuticals.”
“Be cautious,” Su Mo took back the walkie-talkie.
“Spiders?” Zhao Changsheng’s usually charming voice shifted, “That’s not good, these things are just as nasty as cockroaches.”
“I’m worried they’re either too high level or immune to spiritual power, and Li Qian can’t detect them,” Jianxiong’s foot shook on the accelerator, remembering the time at the repair shop when cockroaches crawled all over him, sending shivers down his spine.
He was right, and the eyes behind Li Qian’s glasses were also dimming, “Indeed.”
“How long will it take us to pass through Yan City?” Su Mo turned to ask Lu Chen.
“Without rest, at least two days,” Lu Chen replied.
“Hmm,” Su Mo nodded, no longer speaking, as they could only try to conserve as much energy as possible now.
All morning, they had followed the guidance of the Spiritual Ability User, weaving through the city streets, and although they had avoided the dense zombie hordes, it stretched their time even further.
The setting sun began to cast longer shadows of the city buildings under the dusky light, the long-absence of human life let grass roots break the road surface, and ivy claimed full walls.
Rong Bai, after reconfirming the city’s exit on the map, decided to find a place to rest for the night.
With the increased dangers after dark and the city’s notorious old business, he couldn’t gamble with the lives of those remaining.
Once their Spiritual Ability User confirmed the safety around an abandoned skyscraper, he led the convoy to park there.
Su Mo slept for a while and when she woke up, the vehicle had already stopped.
Li Qian, who had been projecting his spiritual power all day, was exhausted even with the constant supply of Jasmine Tea.
He withdrew his superpower and leaned on the chair to take a short rest.
The sun finally vanished below the horizon.
The people in the vehicle quietly descended and entered the desolate building.
It was an unfinished construction, and the spiraling staircase didn’t even have handrails.
Everyone moved as quietly as they could, each finding a room to stay in.
Admiral Rong also had to look after the civilians in the military convoy’s tail; not wanting them to cause any trouble, he herded them into the building as well.
The unfinished skyscraper was packed full.
Su Mo went up to the rooftop where Rong Bai and Lu Chen stood shoulder to shoulder, with Li Chuan greeting her as she arrived.
All three held binoculars in their hands.
“Want to try?” Lu Chen brought her to his side and passed the binoculars over to her.
Su Mo shook her head and pointed to her eyes, “I can see clearly.”
Even without a hint of light in the sky, her eyes could see clearly in the dark, though things got blurred at a distance.
This low-rise building had only six floors, and her gaze wasn’t far before getting blocked by other towering buildings.
“What are you looking at?” she asked.
“Spiders,” Rong Bai replied.
He lifted his binoculars and walked back and forth across the rooftop, hoping to extend his view further, “Yan City raised spiders, and after a black rain, we encountered dogs with octopuses growing in their brains.
Animals mutated, and I fear spiders did the same.”
