CHAPTER 468: CHAPTER 466: WHAT’S THE ANOMALY?
Jianxiong stopped what he was doing and, seeing that Su Mo wasn’t joking, turned to Lu Chen and said, "Boss?"
After confirming the tent was secure, Lu Chen stood up, "Go get Jin Han to bring over a Spiritual Superpower User."
Jianxiong clapped his hands and went to call someone.
Soon, Jin Han personally came with a Spiritual Superpower User. His face was quite serious, thinking something had happened, "What’s wrong?"
Lu Chen walked to the edge of the stone pillar and caught Su Mo who had jumped down directly, saying indifferently, "Use your superpower to check the surrounding environment."
The Spiritual Superpower User immediately said, "I have been using my spiritual power to explore this place since I got here, there’s no problem."
"What about outside?"
You mean around us? I’ve extended my power to its limits to check, there are zombies, but their levels are all within our ability to handle."
Su Mo asked, "Is there anything abnormal?"
"No, other than zombies, there’s nothing else. If you’re talking about humans, it’s just those few people hanging from that building that you mentioned."
Su Mo nodded, and after indicating she had no further questions, Lu Chen let them leave.
Jin Han didn’t leave immediately, patted his teammate on the shoulder to let him go first, then leaned in front of them, flashing a gold tooth, "You’ve found something amiss? My Spiritual Superpower User is only Level 3, he might have missed many things."
Lu Chen lowered his gaze and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Looking up through the large hole at the top, Su Mo noticed that in the span of a few conversations, those people had already made it through the fiercest layer of flames and were rapidly descending. She too was puzzled, "If there’s nothing abnormal within the range of a Level 3, then it’s definitely safe around us, but the actions of those people are very strange, they don’t seem to care about the flames at all,"
She paused, then shook her head, "No, that’s not right, they are actually afraid of something else, something more terrifying than being burned by fire or being surrounded by zombies."
"That building must be around twenty to thirty stories high," Jin Han was stirred by her somewhat frightening words and also looked up.
"The distance viewed from the top far exceeds that of a Level 3 superpower," Lu Chen also looked up, his deep blue phoenix eyes reflecting the image of the building that was now starting to collapse.
Su Mo looked away and tugged at the sleeve of the person next to her, "It’s late at night now, no matter what that thing over there is, it shouldn’t pose a threat to us anytime soon. We’ll talk about it first thing tomorrow morning."
"Mhm," the man took her hand.
In the empty space of the platform ahead, several tents were scattered, and in the middle, Jin Han’s team had brought back many branches, building a makeshift stove with only a pot of plain porridge boiling on it, without even simple condiments.
They walked over, and after Su Mo glanced at the somewhat unappetizing contents of the pot, a box of pickles appeared out of thin air in her hands.
She took a spoon from next to her, added some seasonings to make a pickle porridge, and also took out several cans of meat from her own supplies.
Jin Han watched with shining eyes, and after getting Su Mo’s permission to distribute these items, he immediately handed them out, happily saying, "The refugee camp in P City is so large, and food is getting less day by day. I ate up my stock of meat cans a week ago."
Lu Chen opened a can and handed it to Su Mo.
She ate slowly, saying, "I know, the supplies in P City are scarce to begin with. The first batch of crops has just sprouted, and it will be a long time before a good food chain can be established."
"If only there was a superpower that could stimulate plants to grow quickly," Jin Han sighed, then added, "Living here as superpower users is really damn suffocating. Though it’s safe, our mouths have practically been glued shut from all the porridge we drink."
"Speaking of which, why can’t Wood Element Superpower Users stimulate plant growth? Aren’t those plants too?" Jianxiong asked, gulping down the freshly cooked porridge without a care for how scalding it was.
His question seemed quite valid.
Of course, it was quickly refuted by one of the superpower users in Jin Han’s team, "They can stimulate growth. What do you think all those vines come from?"
Su Mo became interested and turned to look at him, "If it’s possible, then why not try?"
The man exhaled and countered, "Have you ever seen the vines or other plants we conjure from seeds be edible?"
He pulled out a handful of sesame-like things from his pocket and said, "As our Level increases, we can conjure vines out of thin air and even stimulate things from seeds, but these are mostly imbued with certain lethality, all mutant products, and are not edible."
Su Mo caught on immediately, "If we give you a potato, who knows what kind of bizarre mutant product might come out."
"Exactly, the direction of mutation is uncontrollable. We can only go with the flow and control them to kill zombies," the other person nodded.
The laws of evolution were just that, and no one could change them.
After everyone finished eating and agreed that Jin Han’s people would take the night watch, they each went off to sleep.
In the tent, Su Mo lay down in her clothes, resting her head on the man’s hand. She held her chest, her expression not as relaxed as when she was outside.
As observant as Lu Chen was, he had already sensed something was amiss. Propping up his upper body, he looked down and asked with some nervousness, "Is that feeling coming on again? Does your heart hurt?"
Su Mo rubbed her chest, frowning, "It’s bearable. It seems that today’s plane crash was no ordinary event."
Lu Chen thought for a moment, then pulled her into his arms, gently patting her back, "Rest for now. Later, when it’s time to change guards, let Yang Yichu out. It can find you no matter where you are, so, acting as your eyes, is not out of the question."
Su Mo also thought it was a good idea and decided to let it control a zombie to explore the way, which was undoubtedly correct.
Upon this thought, the previous discomfort in her heart eased significantly. She closed her eyes in his arms, feeling content, "Then wake me up when it’s your turn to watch later in the night."
"Sleep now," the man said, leaning down to kiss her forehead.
After the campfire had been stomped out, the sky was already faintly lighting up. Su Mo was woken by Lu Chen who was taking over the watch, and the two stepped out of the tent together. Jianxiong, who was originally going to keep watch by himself, was also ordered to go back to sleep.
She and Lu Chen left the platform, went down the escalator, and then released Yang Yichu from the System Bag.
It was still as bewildered as before, its gaze only focusing when it saw Su Mo, "Sis, sis, why, are we out?"
Su Mo bent down to rub its head, speaking softly, "I need your help."
"Okay, but I, am hungry," Yang Yichu touched its own stomach, feeling an immense hunger upon its release.
Lu Chen was a bit wary when he heard this, pulling Su Mo closer to his side, but she was unconcerned, directly taking out half of a bloodsoaked wild boar.
