The Chef Rules the Last Days
Chapter 566 - 564: No Intention of Giving Them Up
CHAPTER 566: CHAPTER 564: NO INTENTION OF GIVING THEM UP
Li Qian, who was left behind, had no choice but to follow.
Jianxiong had been hanging around the clinic lately, knowing that a great battle was about to come, yet he still liked to flock there every day.
Li He chatted with him as if they were brothers, sharing quite a few common topics.
"Jianxiong! Get the hell out of the way!" Zhao Changsheng burst into the clinic, knocking Jianxiong aside, and placed Su Mo on the bed.
"What the... sister!" Jianxiong was shocked and hurriedly leaned over the bed, "What happened? Is your chest hurting again?"
Li He pushed him away, "Step aside, I’ll handle this."
He stood by the bed and looked at the person whose face had turned pale with pain. He immediately gathered a ball of light in his hand and covered Su Mo’s chest with it.
This was the first time Su Mo had received treatment from a Healing Superpower User. Her chest was invaded by a warm current, the extremely painful sensation, like a blade torturing her heart, was indeed greatly alleviated.
No longer feeling short of breath, the warm sensation in her chest made her a bit more lucid.
Seeing some color return to her face, Li He hurriedly helped her up, poured a cup of hot water for her, and fed it to her, "How is it? Feeling better?"
Su Mo rubbed her chest in wonder and said, "Much better, thank you."
She looked at his hands somewhat surprised, "I used to have chest pain, and drinking all the Healing Tea didn’t help, but your superpower actually did."
"That it helped is the best," said Li He with a smile, taking the tea and tactfully moving back, "You two talk, I’ll go check on the other beds."
"Hmm."
Li Qian stood behind the bed, speaking softly, "Did you have a premonition that tomorrow’s battle will not be easy?"
Su Mo was startled by his question, she lowered her head, her eyes bewildered, "I’m not quite sure if it’s because of this war or something else."
She always felt something was off.
That gloomy sky.
The system seemed to be warning her about something.
Zhao Changsheng patted Li Qian, signaling him to be quiet, "For now, rest is paramount, we can hold off on other matters."
Li He’s Healing Element was truly miraculous, and just after a few minutes, Su Mo felt no pain, she declined Zhao Changsheng’s offer of support and got out of bed by herself.
"I’m going outside to look."
Su Mo pushed the door of the clinic and walked outside.
The air under the gloomy sky was tinged with post-rain humidity; she tilted her head back and looked at the foggy sky. When the wind blew, the deep chill penetrated her heart.
"What are you looking at?" Zhao Changsheng curiously followed her gaze upward, but besides the vast foggy clouds, there was nothing else.
Her eyes hazy, Su Mo murmured softly, "I think, before the Ice Age, it won’t snow anymore."
Jianxiong, following her outside, asked confusedly, "What does that mean? Didn’t it just snow a few months ago?"
Su Mo did not answer him; she had an inkling that the warning wasn’t about the Beast Tide but about an impending catastrophic disaster yet to come.
She no longer stared absent-mindedly at the sky but turned and said, "There won’t be a spring, remember to take out those chimpanzee coats if it gets cold."
She stepped toward the main entrance.
Behind her, Zhao Changsheng expressed his concern, "Momo, aren’t you going to rest a bit first?"
Su Mo shook her head, "No need, I’ll wait for Lu Chen over there. Nobody knows when the big battle will come, you all better get ready."
She returned to the entrance of the refugee camp, where supplies were continuously stacked in corners, box after box.
All the superpower users today received five bottles of tea each, some for restoring superpowers and others for healing external injuries.
Apart from the high-level superpower users who unsurprisingly knew this was Su Mo’s doing, the low-level superpower users who tasted it were almost bulging their eyes out.
Since it was Rong Bai who had ordered these distributed, everyone held immense respect for Rong Bai, who sat in his wheelchair with only half his body remaining. The tea even boosted their confidence towards the upcoming Beast Tide.
If only they could withstand the Beast Tide, they would emerge victorious.
As time ticked by, Lu Chen solemnly finalized the arrangements and said, "The area where you are stationed is highly concentrated with the Beast Tide. You will be the first to face it directly. I have made clear what needs to be done; is there anything else you do not understand?"
"Clear!"
Between the rolling black river and the horde of beasts, these people knew their fateful demise was inevitable. Thus, with eyes wide in terror but faces calm, they spoke loudly.
Lu Chen nodded, gave them a standard military salute, and said, "There are some items in the trunk."
He took a deep look at them and turned back.
These hundred-some people, some sitting in cars, others leaning against telephone poles, surrounded by tens of corpses, recently cleaned up.
"So... is this our last safe time?"
"Hmm... What did he say was in the trunk?"
"Let’s open it and see."
Someone went and opened the trunk of the vehicles.
Dozens of guns, both submachine and machine guns, along with a box of Hand Grenades.
This was the last chance Lu Chen left them.
If they could lure the Beast Tide to the cliff’s edge, perhaps, with extreme driving maneuvers, they could preserve their precious lives.
Everyone stared at the dazzling array of weapons, dumbfounded.
Someone muttered, "So... they didn’t really plan on abandoning us."
"Forget it! We volunteered, and the refugee camp gave us such a good opportunity! I’ve never faced a Mutant Beast head-on before! Let’s do this!"
A brawny young man was the first to grab a weapon from the trunk, "My son and wife are waiting for me at the base, I have to live to return!"
All were infused with tremendous fighting spirit by these weapons; they all had loved ones in the refugee camp, and they were ready to fight tooth and nail to protect them!
Soon, each person took a weapon they were familiar with, and those without weapons strapped themselves with Hand Grenades.
In the afternoon, Lu Chen returned as promised.
Su Mo stood at the door, kicking stones while waiting for him to return.
As soon as he got out of the car, he approached her and asked, "Why are you here alone?"
"Is everything done?" Su Mo looked up and asked.
"Yes, it’s all done, now it’s up to them whether they succeed or not," Lu Chen said as he walked with her inside, noticing her rather listless expression, his eyes questioning, "Not feeling well?"
Su Mo shook her head, then nodded, "I think after we withstand this wave of the Beast Tide, we should move quickly to find a suitable place for the Bunker, bring that geologist with us, he should be very adept at it."
Lu Chen watched her for a long moment before asking, "Do you have a premonition?"
"Yes," Su Mo nodded, sounding somewhat disappointed, "I think that expert’s words will come true."
