The Chef Rules the Last Days
Chapter 578 - 576: Fang Ya’s Plea
CHAPTER 578: CHAPTER 576: FANG YA’S PLEA
"Thank you," Fang Ya followed her inside, both excited and uneasy.
The room in the hotel was luxurious, complete with a small living room. Su Mo led her into the living room, poured her a glass of water, and asked politely, "What brings you here today?"
"Oh, nothing much. I just had too much free time, so I brought you some soup," Fang Ya quickly said as she opened the thermos and pushed it towards them.
There’s an old saying, idle courtesy often hides ulterior motives.
However, Fang Ya was Lu Chen’s mother after all, so she took the initiative to scoop out three bowls, "Lu Chen, try some."
She placed a bowl in front of the man. He frowned for a while before he planned to pick up the bowl.
Just then, Su Mo asked, "You came just to deliver chicken soup? Then we thank you in advance."
Fang Ya hesitated, her hands on her thighs twisting her somewhat bleached trousers, her lips moved, and she said softly, "Actually, that’s not it."
Lu Chen’s hand holding the soup paused, the bowl that was almost to his lips was set back down, and his tone was chillingly cold, "Speak, what is it?"
Su Mo also put down her bowl and scrutinized her. Fang Ya really had changed a lot in just a few days. She no longer wore those expensive yet impractical ladylike dresses, but rather simple white long sleeves and somewhat outdated trousers, it all looked like it had been salvaged from someone else’s trash.
Fang Ya struggled for a long time, her eyebrows knotted together before she softly said, "I hoped... could you take care of me and your Uncle Youwei..."
The porcelain bowl in Lu Chen’s hand dropped and shattered on the floor, his hand involuntarily clenched into a fist, and he squeezed out a frosty phrase through gritted teeth, "Say that again."
Su Mo felt that this old lady truly didn’t have even a tiny bit worth her pity or sympathy.
She grabbed Lu Chen’s hand and placed it in her palm, her green eyes staring at Fang Ya, her tone becoming mocking, "You came just for this? This is how you treat your son you never raised? You think a bowl of chicken soup will make him take on your burden?"
Fang Ya shook her head frantically, her tears nearly falling, "No, not that, I truly had no choice. These last two days, Lu Jin took all our forces, he took his mother and sister and stopped caring for us. What are we old folks supposed to do?"
This was indeed something Lu Jin would do. When he was a child, a large part of his misery was caused by this woman right here.
It could even be said that it was because of her that the tragedies of two families were brought about.
Su Mo’s expression also turned cold, "Ms. Fang Ya, your mind is really foolish. I wonder if it’s stuffed full of paste."
"What?" Fang Ya could hardly believe it, Su Mo was speaking to her with such disrespect. Her hands almost tore her trousers, and her tone became somewhat angry, "You are just a junior. How can you speak to me so impolitely!"
Su Mo was on the verge of throwing that bowl of chicken soup in her face. Lu Chen sat beside her mute, his dead gaze filled with utter disappointment.
"Even though he killed my father, you still followed him?"
Fang Ya was frightened by Lu Chen’s gaze and tone, repeatedly shaking her head, "It’s not like that, it’s not like that, there must be a misunderstanding here, how could Youwei dare?"
Su Mo directly interrupted her, completely tearing Fang Ya’s face apart, "Speaking of which you might not believe, but when you and Lu Youwei were rolling in the sheets and calling Aunt Jiang not to send the child over, I was watching right beside you."
"Oh, and does stealing your sister’s husband really feel that exhilarating to you?"
"Su Mo! You can’t talk to me like that!" Fang Ya stood up abruptly, her hand uncontrollably raised, but what followed was such intense oppression that she fell back onto the couch.
Su Mo let go of Lu Chen and stood in front of her, looking down and saying, "Then I must clearly say it again, it was Lu Youwei, who killed, Lu Cang!"
Fang Ya’s face instantly turned pale, did she truly have no doubts in her heart?
No, perhaps she already knew, but why did she still choose to stay by Lu Youwei’s side?
Su Mo even thought, ironically, that decades of bonding can’t be severed so easily; these two must have developed deep familial and romantic feelings by now. Probably the only one who still remembers Lu Cang is Lu Chen.
Lu Chen kept staring at Fang Ya, trying to find even a trace of sadness for Lu Cang in her eyes, but he was disappointed. He stood up, his body emanating a cold aura as if he had just stepped out of an ice cellar.
"Take your things and get out."
The oppressive force loaded on Fang Ya was completely withdrawn by Su Mo, and both of them looked at her with a disgust reserved for strangers.
Despair and sadness overwhelmed Fang Ya, yet she didn’t want to leave. She carefully covered the soup back with the lid, her voice crying out, "Do you both really have to drive me and him to our deaths? We really are out of options."
Su Mo walked over and opened the door, saying, "I think you’ve got one thing wrong. The one who’s driving you to death should be Lu Jin, what does that have to do with us?"
Fang Ya couldn’t believe her own son could be so heartless. With blurred eyes looking towards Lu Chen, her voice trembling, she said, "When we were in the laboratory below, I pleaded for you every day, I was worried every moment that my child might encounter an accident, you can’t do this! You can’t be like this!"
Her tearful demeanor caused Lu Chen’s fists to clench tightly, barely suppressing the rage and disappointment in his heart, he said coldly; "I once gave you a chance, did you take it? I have a mother now, but it’s not you."
In his heart, Jiang Yulian was the only warmth he had received in his childhood, something the merely biological Fang Ya never provided.
Fang Ya felt a dull pain in her heart from his words, clutching the thermos as she walked out under their gaze, crying as she slowly moved to the door. Just as Su Mo was about to close it, she pushed back with her hand, her head hanging low, her voice quivering, "Could you, give me some Crystal Stones... We are now living in the civilian area next door; we don’t have much left to eat."
Su Mo didn’t refuse, taking out a bag of Low-level Crystal Stones from the System Bag, "If you can economize a bit, this can last you a long time."
Madam Lu, who had once been so prominent in Base B city, was now a commoner in need of alms. Su Mo couldn’t help but wonder if these Crystal Stones would be squandered away in no time?
Fang Ya grabbed the bag with trembling hands, taking only a few steps out before the hotel room door slammed shut behind her.
