The Chef Rules the Last Days
Chapter 582 - 580: Successful Rescue
CHAPTER 582: CHAPTER 580: SUCCESSFUL RESCUE
Excitement stirred in everyone as they struggled with their upper bodies, having all heard the sound of Su Mo ascending the stairs.
Special forces soldiers, one hand holding a gun and the other channeling superpowers, clung to the doorway. The moment Su Mo appeared from around the corner, bullets and superpowers poured out, hitting the orange protective shield.
It was no use, not the slightest.
In weak English, they yelled, "What kind of monster are you, exactly?"
A smile played on Su Mo’s lips, her green eyes meeting those of one of the special forces soldiers, "Knowing I’m a monster, why would you still provoke me?"
The instant she unleashed her ability, the soldier’s head burst open, brain matter and fluids splattering his comrade’s face.
Only then did they realize the true extent of the strength of this woman the headquarters was so determined to have!
Someone pulled the hostages out from room in a panic, holding a detonator, "Stop! If you come any closer, I’ll blow them all up with it!"
Su Mo certainly noticed the bombs strapped to the man’s body, and she indeed stopped in her tracks, her gaze fixed steadily on the hostages, "I never intended to be your enemy, why can’t you just let me go? Are you really that covetous of this idiotic Evolution Potion?"
"These are our orders from headquarters! Our duty is to take you, the perfect experimental subject, back with us! To contribute to humanity and enter a new era! Su Mo, this is what you should do!"
Everyone said this was what she should do, but why did that suddenly become her responsibility?
The smile on Su Mo’s lips faded, and she let Li Qian’s green Spiritual Threads go from around her. The green threads instantly took control of the person holding the hostages, and Su Mo immediately met his slightly vacant gaze.
Another head exploded, and the person gripping the hostage was dead beyond any doubt, blood spraying the bomb-strapped man’s face.
These people were really fragile and easily broken.
Su Mo didn’t even need to use her full strength. Every single special forces soldier in the room was killed by her. The young strapping men tied up like dumplings, all scarred and bruised, were extremely agitated upon seeing her.
"Is it the refugee camp coming to rescue us?"
Su Mo nodded. She and Li Qian crouched before them, looking at the bombs hanging from their chests. To be honest, they both were clueless about such gadgets; she didn’t know how to disarm bombs.
"Wait here for a bit, I’ll have Lu Chen and Jianxiong come look after you," As Su Mo was about to flip out through the room’s window, Li Qian suddenly called out to her, "Look at this."
He crouched before a square-shaped, oddly-designed machine, "This thing, it completely shields my spiritual power."
"Oh?" Indeed interested, Su Mo turned her head around and squatted down next to him to observe. The people tied up in the corner overheard and quickly said, "I heard them say that it can shield spiritual power. The day before yesterday, when those people left, I pulled out their power plug with my teeth!"
Li Qian suddenly understood something, "No wonder I was able to find so many of them all at once."
Su Mo placed her hand directly on the small machine, "Take this thing back, study it."
She jumped out of the window, landing with one foot in the midst of the ruins. The fight on Lu Chen’s side had already ended. Although both sides were Level 6, in terms of precise control and application of superpowers, Lu Chen wielded the Ice Giant Sword to behead his opponent.
This battle, they won effortlessly, and it could even be said to have lacked any challenge.
They left only two survivors. Su Mo mentioned the situation with the ordinary people to Lu Chen, and the man nodded, "I’ll take Jianxiong over."
The captives were dragged by the scruffs of their necks and tossed in front of Su Mo by Zhao Changsheng. She took out a bottle of tea and poured it directly into their mouths.
"Cough cough, what did you give us to drink?!" The other side glared at her with a combination of anger and horror.
Su Mo smiled, "Nothing much, now, let’s speak some truth, shall we!"
"Where’s the headquarters?"
"Mi Country, Rodena State Biotechnology Laboratory."
"Why did you capture me? Just because I am currently of the most research value?"
"Multiple countries collaborated and offered a high price for you. They are very interested in an embryo that can achieve a hundred percent fusion with the virus."
Su Mo frowned, while Feng Yao, who had just handled some people and returned, looked as if he expected this. He knew some of Su Mo’s secrets.
She squatted down and asked, "I’ve been captured by zombies before, and I was almost infected."
"The new generation of the virus we released is an evolved version of you, I don’t know the details." The special forces soldier’s eyes looked like they were about to pop out as he blurted out the information.
Su Mo touched her chin, "Do you have more people coming to meet you?"
"No, we are an elite mercenary squad, Mi Country paid us a hefty reward."
Zhao Changsheng couldn’t help but interrupt with mockery, "No offense, but you guys are pathetic."
Su Mo stood up and asked the final question, "Is the mental shielding device one of your latest technologies?"
"Yes, it’s the latest product from our research."
Su Mo nodded, she had gathered enough information. Under the cold and indifferent gaze of those around her, the two captives had their necks snapped simultaneously.
Lu Chen successfully defused the bomb, and Jianxiong released all the civilians they had captured.
The several people hugged each other excitedly, overjoyed at their release—a conspiracy without any challenge came to an end just like that.
Back at the refugee camp, family members of the civilians, upon hearing that their sons or husbands had returned alive, hugged each other in sheer joy.
Out of a hundred people, only five survived; to Su Mo and the others, this was still considered good news. At least Lu Chen had tried, giving them a chance to live.
Jianxiong was lying on the vehicle, clutching his wound while Feng Yao carried him to the clinic. All the way, Feng Yao couldn’t help but curse inwardly, not understanding why he decided to slash his own elbow with a shard of rock covered in zombie blood—it wasn’t necessary to be this harsh on oneself.
Seeing Jianxiong with his eyes tightly closed and his lips pale, being carried into the clinic, Li He was dumbstruck. He quickly put down the work in his hands and helped move the man onto the bed, "What happened? Did you get hurt during today’s mission?"
Recalling the lines Su Mo had instructed him to say earlier, Feng Yao’s expression darkened suddenly, he sighed and said, "The idiot got scratched by a zombie’s nail while trying to save someone, quick, take a look at him."
Li He’s heart tightened, and he quickly lifted Jianxiong’s arm—the wound was beginning to turn black. Li He gathered a ball of light in his hand and covered the wound directly with it.
Seeing that there was nothing more for him to do, Feng Yao tactfully pulled the curtain shut and stepped out.
