CHAPTER 605: CHAPTER 603: INSECT CONJUGATE

For the first organism that had stormed into the supermarket, everyone attacked it en masse, throwing everything they could find at it.

It was too dark—the only ones who could clearly see were Su Mo and Lu Chen. Quickly, she pulled a superpower user, whose chest was about to be pierced, to the side, swinging her Tang Blade forcefully, stabbing one of the creature’s legs.

A bizarre hissing filled the convenience store, and at last, someone turned on a flashlight, sending beams from four or five flashlights scattering throughout the interior, and something miraculous happened.

Just as Su Mo was about to save another person, the creature showed a fearful expression on its otherwise blank face when caught in the beam of light, letting out a loud wail and continuously retreating into the shadows.

Su Mo immediately realized that these creatures were afraid of light.

Lu Chen also noticed and immediately shouted, "They’re afraid of the light! Get out all the flashlights!"

A Fire Ability User immediately conjured balls of fire from his hands, hurling seven or eight of them in front of the organisms. The dazzling light, as if with astounding heat, caused all the illuminated organisms to howl in pain.

Their massive insect-like legs kept moving the human bodies they were attached to, trying to avoid the light.

Clutching a flashlight in one hand and a Tang Blade in the other, she rushed forward.

The insect legs, previously tough and seemingly indestructible, had withstood several of Su Mo’s slashes without severing. But now, with the aid of the light, she sliced off an insect leg with a single strike—the harmless light to humans was deadly to these creatures.

Dozens of the organisms were now directly under the glare of the lights, being counter-attacked by the superpower users as if slicing vegetables.

Jianxiong did not participate too much in the battle but instead cornered Li He with his own huge body, blocking him tightly.

As long as there was light, the organisms couldn’t bother them, and could even be described as effortlessly defeated.

Lu Chen conjured frost throughout the entire convenience store, and countless Cold Ice Barbs sprouted from the walls and floors, piercing into those organisms’ bodies.

Like the shells of cooked crabs, the brittle insect legs were all pierced and taken down by him.

The humans who had lost their insect legs fell to the ground, and thus the battle subsided easily because of the light, with no casualties or infections.

At that moment, the ruined convenience store was a mess. Su Mo walked straight to a body from which the insect legs had been severed. She squatted down to check its back and then turned the body over.

The exposed skin under the light was savagely torn, with two pairs of insect legs growing on top of the scapula bones, connected to the bones inside.

Su Mo asserted, "This must be caused by some kind of insect parasite. The city is so quiet simply because they can only come out at night."

Everyone agreed with her statement. When they had entered Luohe during the day, they saw nothing but plants and humanoid plant cocoons that encompassed bodies that couldn’t be exposed to light.

Lu Chen suddenly furrowed his brows and said coldly, "It’s always dark inside the Bunker.

Everyone understood his implication.

If the Bunker had been invaded and was full of these mutated bodies with insect legs, things would get complicated.

Jianxiong walked over, picked up a body of a combined entity, threw it out, and then said, "We should rest first; otherwise, we won’t have the energy to go down to the Bunker.

His words made sense. Following him, Su Mo then threw several huge insect legs out through a broken window, "You’re right, let’s rest first and sleep a bit more to gather strength."

Although the floor inside the convenience store was covered with limbs left over from the fight, no one minded as they each grabbed a flashlight and rested their eyes against the broken wall.

Jianxiong couldn’t help but think about lifting up both of his legs, "If we let these creatures get into our shoes, then what?"

Looking at her long boots, Su Mo thought for a moment, then her gaze fell on a nearby grocery store. She avoided the sharp wooden splinters and went in to rummage around, eventually coming out with several rolls of duct tape, saying, "Find something to pad the bottom of the shoes, and seal your shoes with duct tape."

This was a good idea. Everyone entered the grocery store, each grabbed a roll of duct tape, and began wrapping.

Without affecting their ability to walk, they protected their shoes tightly around their legs.

They even tightly bound their wrists.

Coming out of the grocery store again, everyone’s body from the neck down was well covered.

The location of the Bunker was in the central area of Luohe, beneath an apartment building.

This was the location they had settled on after searching all morning.
