CHAPTER 608: CHAPTER 606: CARNIVOROUS PLANT MONSTER

These bizarrely shaped crustacean creatures, Su Mo couldn’t name them. She just stared in surprise, "They don’t rescue people, instead they bring these insects here, what do they mean by that?"

"The Luohe Insect Museum and Insect Research Institute, they can’t do without these insects. Did they also bring them along on their escape?"

Lu Chen couldn’t be certain that what she said was the truth, so he opened up all the boxes in the other areas to take a look, and the results were all different species of insect corpses.

It does seem like something these researchers would do," Su Mo said with a face full of disgust as she stared at the strangely shaped insect at her feet," Perhaps these insect amalgamations are the result of them playing with fire and getting burned."

After checking all the boxes, Lu Chen and Su Mo retreated.

After a brief rest, it was time to set off again.

As they passed by the boxes, Jianxiong suggested, "Shouldn’t we just burn these things before we move on?"

Su Mo decisively shook her head, "The air here doesn’t circulate well. We need to find the control room. If we start a fire now, it would burn up most of the oxygen, which would be a loss not worth the gain."

Everyone agreed.

Bypassing the boxes filled with insect corpses, what resembled a bunker used in the past to hide from nuclear wars required a long ladder to reach the next level down.

Looking down from the entrance, Su Mo couldn’t see any monsters, but for safety’s sake, a soldier took out two glow sticks from his backpack and threw them down.

The light illuminated the interior, revealing nothing but some cold iron pipes.

Lu Chen led the way down first.

Once everyone had safely reached the ground, this level featured a circular corridor leading to four different directions, with a shallow freshwater pond in the middle, and a few pairs of shoes and clothes that had been dropped during a frantic escape scattered on the floor.

The accompanying superpower users picked them up to look, and when they recognized the name stitched on the pocket of the chest, shock appeared in their eyes, "These are clothes from Dazhuang! They actually made it down to the bunker! But the lock outside was clearly still locked."

Lu Chen’s gaze was fixed on the black freshwater pond, "They might have been dragged up from below."

That pond held not only water but also a huge, strange plant entwined within it.

The vines looked as if they were over-inflated, abnormally thick.

All eyes were focused on that pond.

The plant grew too strangely; those swollen, bulging vine branches were intertwined, looking extremely bizarre.

Someone uncertainly said, "It’s a mutant plant species, isn’t it?"

Without recklessly approaching the edge of the freshwater pond, Su Mo noticed some clothes and accessories floating in the pond, drawing her attention, "It could be a carnivorous plant monster. We’ve encountered them before. They can suck the flesh and blood of humans."

With her words, everyone simultaneously took two steps back.

However, the plant didn’t show much movement, but beside it, the Spiritual Superpower User said, "I haven’t detected anything unusual about it, but inside those four corridors, there are even more zombies than on the previous level."

Su Mo waved her Tang Blade, "Anyway, let’s clear out the zombies first."

She looked toward Lu Chen and added, "I’ll take a team, and you take another. Let’s speed things up."

Lu Chen did not object but just instructed, "Be careful."

Su Mo nodded, took Jianxiong, Li He, and a few other superpower users, and ran into the pitch-dark corridor.

The beams of several flashlights illuminated the path ahead, where the zombies on this floor had even stranger shapes.

Su Mo had never seen a zombie that had abandoned the human appearance entirely for its upper body, transforming into something resembling a giant stick insect, while its lower half still comprised human legs.

The long, pipe-like multiple pairs of legs amazed her with their peculiar construction.

While these were just ordinary Level 3 zombies, their killing power was close to that of Level 4; the weapons on their bodies were much more formidable than those of average zombies.

Although she was much higher in Level, Su Mo did not dare to be careless. She raised her Tang Blade high and met the first hybrid head-on.

The zombie’s slender claws, one blocked her blade, and the other stabbed toward her waist. Su Mo nimbly dodged. She wanted to use her eye-based superpower to directly explode its head, but that was impossible.

She couldn’t even find the eyes of these creatures; how they detected her presence was a mystery.

Behind her, as the duration of the Protective Shield expired, a superpower user was momentarily careless and got stabbed in the thigh. He immediately cried out in pain. Jianxiong dashed over in a few strides, knocked down the hybrid with a punch, and dragged the injured soldier to Li He’s side.

Li He conjured spheres of light in his hands, and in just a minute, the wound was completely healed.

Capitalizing on the difference in Levels, Su Mo fought fiercely among the strange hybrids, her blade rising and falling as she agilely maneuvered through them.

The plant in the pond, its branching body covering the walls, began to move slowly, bloated and thick veins crawling along the surface.

Li He stood not far from the poolside in a safe area, watching the distant Jianxiong and the others fight. By the time he noticed something wrapping around his waist, it was too late.

Jianxiong could only hear a cry of alarm. When he turned back to look, Li He was no longer in his original spot. He immediately let go of the torn zombie he was holding and sprinted toward the pool, shouting, "Li He!"

Hearing the shout, Su Mo quickly finished off a zombie and rushed over.

By then, Li He was suspended mid-air, ensnared at the waist by a massive vine, its tough outer skin and spiked hook at the top menacingly close to piercing his chest. Jianxiong, without a second thought, charged over, leaped up, and firmly embraced the vine, subduing it underwater.

Seeing this, Su Mo threw her Tang Blade, slicing the plant vine holding Li He in half.

He fell into the pool with a splash, while Jianxiong, disregarding his own body nearly being buried by the plant, continued to press down on the struggling botanical creature in the water, all the while turning his head to shout at Li He, "Get out of here, quick!"

Those who rushed over scooped up Li He, pulling him to safety. Meanwhile, Jianxiong, his body hardened, did not care about being overpowered by the plant. He struggled to free an arm and kept smashing down on the seemingly soft but actually tough surface of the creature.

Su Mo dived into the water and pulled out her knife, her hand transforming into vines that wrapped around the mutant plants. She exerted all her strength to slowly pull the plants away from Jianxiong.

Lu Chen, who rushed over, tore open a rift and appeared beside her; Spatial Strangulation was instantly activated, completely shattering and breaking all the mutant plants.

Lu Chen pulled Jianxiong out of the water and, along with Su Mo, returned to the ground. He then froze the entire pool solid in an instant.
