CHAPTER 621: CHAPTER 619: GIVING BIRTH TO A SON

Such a direct confession almost choked Su Mo in her throat, and Lu Chen, afraid she’d choke, even brought out some juice. "Take it slow."

Su Mo coughed several times, "That’s so like Jianxiong, such a thrilling confession."

On the stage, Li He was completely dumbfounded, watching Jianxiong kneel before him and open his palm, waiting for his answer.

The crowd below was filled with familiar faces, some teasing and others finding somewhere to set up firecrackers in front of the stage, with expressions that read as long as Li He agreed, they would set them off.

Li He looked at the outstretched black hand, pursed his lips, and asked with some difficulty, "I’m a man, do you really... not mind?"

Jianxiong nodded vigorously, boldly declaring, "In my life, you come second—first is my sister, and both of you are people I would protect with my life."

Su Mo didn’t know Jianxiong would actually bring her up, those tender words made her eyes heat up, "Jianxiong really is my good brother."

Lu Chen offered no contradiction, just patted her head to comfort her.

Seeing his sincerity, Li He was touched.

Try it, he said to himself, you always need to... take that first step and give it a try.

Li He slowly placed his hand in Jianxiong’s, "Okay."

Countless fireworks shot from the firecracker tube, and a massive shower of colored confetti floated down from the sky, as if it were a rather special wedding. Su Mo couldn’t help but stand up with Lu Chen’s support, happy for the two men.

How wonderful is a love that comes together without too many hardships.

Su Mo moved forward with a beaming smile, intending to go up and offer her congratulations, but before she got far, she felt a chill between her legs, and her smile froze on her face.

She slowly looked down, and below her slender frame covered by the blanket, blood flowed from her loose cotton pants, dripping onto the grass.

If not for Lu Chen’s timely support, she would have ended up kneeling on the ground.

This sudden turn of events shocked everyone.

Su Mo’s ears were buzzing, and all she could hear was Lu Chen’s low growl beside her.

The beautiful confession scene came to an abrupt halt. Both Jianxiong and Li He, who had just joined hands on stage, were startled and hurried down to her.

Lu Chen lifted Su Mo by her waist, the blood stain between her legs flowing unabated, looking quite frightening.

Zhao Changsheng was so scared he was nearly out of his wits, clinging close to Lu Chen, watching Su Mo’s pained expression, "Why is she bleeding? Shouldn’t it be the water breaking during normal circumstances!"

"She has a unique constitution; you can’t view her by normal standards," Li Qian pulled him away, warning sternly, "Let Lu Chen and Li He handle it, you’ll only make things worse."

Zhao Changsheng’s heart twisted in worry, but he had no choice but to follow closely behind Lu Chen, staring at Su Mo’s legs as the blood wouldn’t stop flowing.

Li He ran up to Lu Chen and cast a healing orb, but it was to no avail. Su Mo felt the pain in her abdomen becoming more and more intense, as if the child inside her was rolling and kicking, the pain nearly causing her eyes to roll back.

Surrounded by a crowd, Su Mo was placed on the bed in the clinic, even the doctor was startled by the blood on Lu Chen and his frightening eyes.

She said urgently, "All non-essential personnel out! Quickly! Get out!"

Everyone was sent outside, with only Lu Chen and Li He remaining.

The obstetrician removed Su Mo’s pants and unbuttoned her clothes, revealing her enormous belly covered in terrifying blue veins.

Even the doctor, who had delivered so many children, was baffled by the sight, "No... no way, how could this happen to the baby?"

"Find a solution, quick! Get the baby out! Dead or alive!"

Lu Chen looked at Su Mo, whose face was turning pale from the pain as she was nearly fainting, feeling a dull ache in his heart. He was surrounded by regret and self-loathing, thinking if he hadn’t been drinking, if he had stayed sober, his wife wouldn’t have to suffer so much.

Su Mo just clutched Lu Chen’s hand tightly, enduring the pain, her voice trembling as she said, "It’s okay, I want to give birth, even if it’s a monster I want to give birth."

Certainly, all previous examinations had shown that the child was developing well, but no one expected that the child had been growing inside Su Mo, soaked in her blood.

The blood-stained bed showed the doctor that there wasn’t any time left. She just checked the cervix and found it was barely opened to one finger’s width, still pitifully small, but looking at the speed of blood loss without any supplement, Su Mo might die from severe hemorrhage.

Her hand shaking, the doctor immediately went back and took out a whole set of surgical tools, "No time left, can’t wait for the anesthesia to work, we need to do a C-section."

"C-section?" Lu Chen’s grip on Su Mo’s hand tightened. "Is there no other way?"

The doctor helplessly said, "It’s too special a case, we’re out of time!"

Su Mo tried to lift her head, her face sweaty from pain, "I’m fine, let’s do it."

Li He stood on the other side of the bed, promising her, "Don’t worry, I will help you heal as soon as the baby is out."

Su Mo nodded, her grip on Lu Chen’s hand tightening, "Let’s do it."

What does it feel like to have a knife cut across your abdomen?

It was different from being injured by monsters in battle; she had suffered many wounds before but never knew pain that tormented her like this.

The surgical knife cut through her skin layer by layer, the agony of the blade dragging across her uterus nearly drove her to abandon all reason. She didn’t even know how Lu Chen’s hand got into her mouth.

She just bit down on his hand hard; the blood flowing from her mouth, the blood unique to the man helped her regain a bit of clarity.

She did not know how many layers her belly had been cut open until she heard the loud cry of the infant, then she stared vaguely at the cold light of the clinic’s ceiling without a trace of warmth.

Her eyes slightly out of focus, Lu Chen lowered his head, not minding the large piece of flesh bitten off his hand, he just cradled Su Mo’s face tightly, calling out softly and sadly, "It’s over, darling, don’t fall asleep."

He didn’t even want to look at the child who had caused Su Mo such suffering. Li He, seeing the gaping bloody belly, stopped the doctor, forming balls of light with his hands, bit by bit sealing the frightful incision.

Su Mo was so numbed by pain all she could hear was the man’s voice calling out to her, again and again.

"Is the child... alive?"

It seemed she exerted all her strength just to squeeze out that sentence. Li He turned his head to look at the newborn, just cleaned up, with wrinkled, reddish skin, "Alive, it’s a girl, very healthy."

Not a ’he’, but a ’she’.

Su Mo let out a sigh of relief, rubbing her face against Lu Chen’s as he leaned close, "I’m so sleepy, can I sleep for a bit?"

"Okay."

He kissed her forehead and held her hand tightly without letting go.
