The Chronicles of Emberstone Farm [Cozy Fantasy] [Farming LitRPG]
Chapter 237 – Lettuce Cook! 🥬🥬🥬
Sadly, none of them understood since I said it in English. I continued in this world’s language. “Today’s recipe is [Leche Flan Doughnuts]. Leche flan is a type of caramel custard.”
I picked up an empty [Bowl] and dumped a [Pot of Flour] on it manually. Then I used the System to click on a [Pitcher of Water] to [Use] it on the bowl. A System popup appeared with a few choices, and I picked [Create Dough]. For some reason, I failed Cooking a lot, but this step was considered just mixing or combining two items together, not cooking, so I wasn’t worried.
There were a few gasps from the audience when the bowl and pitcher levitated themselves. A small grey cloud appeared over the two items, covering them both so that we couldn’t see what was happening, and there was the whirring sound effect of an electric mixer. When the cloud disappeared, we saw a bowl of dough and an empty pitcher.
This was how the Cooking skill worked for me, but it was different for the others. When we practiced making doughnuts earlier, we found that they had to do everything manually whereas the System made a lot of stuff automatically in this mysterious way if I was the one using it. The cloud thing was a special effect called [Fight Cloud] that I turned on using the settings since I wanted to record an interesting cooking show for the staff.
“And now we have our dough!” I smiled, hamming it up for the cameras again like an overly enthusiastic TV show host.
Next, I took the dough from the bowl and Lari stepped forward to shape them into balls, which he then flattened into the proper doughnut shape. We were making the type that didn’t have a hole in the middle.
As he was doing that, Kharli made the [Leche Flan] by mixing a [Chicken Egg] and [Milk] in a bowl, pouring the mixture into a mold, and then popping that into the oven.
Though I wasn’t much of a cook, I happened to know that this was definitely not the way to cook a leche flan. The flan should be steamed, not baked in an oven. There should also be sugar in there to sweeten it. Likewise, making dough this way, without eggs, yeast, butter, etc., wouldn’t make sense. I didn’t even add sugar or salt!
However, the Cooking skill in Adventure Incarnate was much simpler than real life cooking, but the results mysteriously tasted good anyway. We called it System magic.
Mo then got started on the [Caramel Frosting] which was made of a [Chicken Egg], [Milk], and [Sugar] which she mixed in a bowl and then cooked over low heat on the stove until it thickened.
While the frosting and flan were being cooked, Lari heated up a frying pan full of oil and gently dropped the dough into it, flipping them over after a minute. The golden brown doughnuts smelled amazing.
“Although our ultimate goal is to make the very luxurious and fancy [Leche Flan Doughnuts], I will demonstrate a simpler doughnut flavor while we wait for the flan to cook.”
I took an empty bowl, poured [Sugar] in it, and gestured for Lari to dunk the doughnut in it.
“Here is a [Sugar Glazed Doughnut].” I held it aloft for the audience and camera to see before putting it down on a golden plate.
Lari made two more, and by that time Mo and Kharli were finished with their tasks.
Kharli used a round cutter to cut circular pieces of flan. Then she used the same cutter to cut holes in the doughnuts Lari provided, but she didn’t punch through it. Instead, she only cut it halfway through. Mo spooned her [Caramel Frosting] on the holes which Kharli then covered with the pieces of flan.
“And now for the last step! I will dust these delicious-looking beauties with some sugar.” I put some sugar in a sieve and used it to dust the items.
Once again, a little grey cloud appeared and covered the food with a loud pitter-patter sound like rain falling on a hard surface. When the cloud disappeared, we saw that the item had turned into a [Burnt Doughnut].
“Oh no!” Mo covered her mouth, pretending to be dismayed, but I could tell she was laughing.
I removed the blackened lump of coal-like food from the countertop. “Uh, let’s try that again.”
In fact, I had to try it five more times before I succeeded. The exp was pretty good.
“There we have it, half a dozen wonderful [Sugar Glazed Doughnuts] and [Leche Flan Doughnuts]!” I pushed the plate full of food to the middle of the island and put my hands on my hips while my apprentices made silly faces and poses the way I’d taught them to.
“Cut!” I yelled in English to no one in particular.
They didn’t understand the word I said, but Fengying got the message anyway, and she organized the maids who cut the food into pieces and served samples to everyone, except for the Demon Chef who got two whole doughnuts, one of each kind.
I observed his reaction out of the corner of my eye as I ate my share of the food. He seemed unimpressed.
“Deming asks how you made the fried bread sweet when no sugar was added?” Fengying asked me.
I smiled modestly but stopped immediately since my face was beginning to hurt from all the smiling I was doing today. “It’s a mysterious power that my bloodline inheritance granted me.”
“It’s good,” said Yinuo. “Will you be making more, my lady?”
“Nah, I only demonstrated it to show the chef what I wanted. He’ll make more for us.” I turned to Fengying with a questioning look on my face. The doughnuts I made tasted very normal, like something bought from a chain store back on Earth. It was nowhere near as delicious as something the Demon Chef could make.
She caught Deming’s eyes, and they seemed to communicate wordlessly.
“He can easily make as many as you want,” Fengying said to me when they finished their silent discussion. “And he can make many different flavors for variety.”
“Yes!” I was elated since he had offered to make more varieties without me asking. I could hardly wait to find out what he would make. “Please let me know when he has some ready for us. We can watch the videos then.”

During the next few days, the chef and his assistants experimented with making doughnuts while I got busy with the System’s video editing tools. Since I was bored, I ended up using a lot of Cash Shop items to add cute stickers, funny filters, and special animations.
I laughed to myself when I finished adding the final touches to the film. “This is almost too good. It’s a masterpiece! Everyone will freak out!”
