The City’s Strongest Son-in-law
Chapter 437 - 438: The Helpless Sun Mei
CHAPTER 437: CHAPTER 438: THE HELPLESS SUN MEI
But if they get into the Shen Family Group, their future will completely change.
Now Sun Gui is imagining himself securing a high position in the group, using his position to make moves on female employees. Most women in Jiang City are fair-skinned and beautiful, several levels above the women in that small county, Bin County.
Sun Wan’s goal is simpler and more direct, because she doesn’t want to work under Tang Qiulu for a lifetime. As long as she establishes herself in Jiang City, she is confident she’ll find a wealthy suitor.
This idea is exactly like Shen Siwen’s; if the two of them knew each other, they might become close sisters, since their goals are identical.
"Grandpa, whether we can stay depends entirely on you. Now everyone can rest; this is my first time staying in a luxurious villa. Tonight, I’ll have a good sleep," Sun Gui said anxiously.
Bedroom upstairs in the Mountain Villa.
Shen Zhenhua felt particularly annoyed with these members of the Sun family visiting, but he didn’t dare say it in front of Sun Mei, although he must remind her now.
"Quite a few people came to our house this time, did you ever think about why they came?" Shen Zhenhua asked.
"They must plan to share in our family’s fortune. Our family has a lot of money now; what’s wrong with entertaining them, unless you’re upset?" Sun Mei said proudly.
Sun Mei’s greatest wish in life was to impress the Sun family members. This opportunity came unexpectedly, making Sun Mei extremely excited.
Although she knew this would cost a lot of money, she didn’t care at all, as long as she could show these people from the Sun family how well she was doing now, she willingly spent the money.
"The luggage they brought doesn’t look like they’ll leave soon," Shen Zhenhua sighed.
"Shen Zhenhua, we didn’t spend much money today. Are you unwilling to spend this little money? They are all relatives from my mother’s side; do you mean they come to Jiang City to visit, and I shouldn’t let them in the house?" Sun Mei said unhappily, looking at Shen Zhenhua.
"You haven’t understood my point. I’m just afraid they’ll settle down and won’t leave," Shen Zhenhua said.
"Not leaving? That’s completely impossible. Even if they don’t go back, why would they stay in our house with nothing to do?" Sun Mei was a bit puzzled.
"You’re usually pretty quick-witted, how come you’re foolish about this? Qiulu is now the chairman of the Shen Family Group. Those people want to rely on our family, expecting Qiulu to arrange jobs for them. Haven’t you thought of this?" Shen Zhenhua explained.
These words left Sun Mei momentarily stunned; she knew the capabilities of those Sun family members. They could put in an effort when it came to free food and drink, but asking them to work would be dreaming, entering the group would mean being parasites.
"Possibly not," Sun Mei said.
"You’re not even confident in your own words; do you need me to tell you directly?" Shen Zhenhua said.
Sun Mei originally planned out places to visit tomorrow, to show them the differences between Jiang City and Bin County, but Shen Zhenhua’s words made her lose all interest.
If this matter is really like Shen Zhenhua said, she must first come up with a plan to manage them now.
"Let’s rest now and see how to deal with this tomorrow," Shen Zhenhua said.
Tossing and turning all night, Sun Mei didn’t sleep well, and got up as soon as the sky was bright.
Upon coming downstairs to the living room, Sun Mei found Sun Wei sitting there.
"Dad, why don’t you rest more? Why are you up now? Is the bed uncomfortable?" Sun Mei asked.
Sun Wei smiled and said, "No discomfort at all; this has to be the most comfortable bed I’ve slept on. I almost don’t want to get out of it."
Sun Mei forced a smile and said, "Since it’s comfortable, you should rest a bit longer. You’re getting older, and you should rest more."
"Come now, sit, and have a heart-to-heart talk with your dad," Sun Wei said.
Sun Mei felt an instant sense of uneasiness, but she obediently sat on the sofa.
"I used to complain about you marrying Shen Zhenhua; it was like you were making yourself suffer. But now your hard times are finally over," Sun Wei said with a face full of relief.
"Dad, it’s all because Qiulu is capable, it has nothing to do with Shen Zhenhua," Sun Mei said.
Sun Wei nodded; he never believed Shen Zhenhua could help them with this matter, so knowing Shen Zhenhua had little status in the Shen family, he had a particularly contemptuous attitude toward him, once even threatening that he would never regard Shen Zhenhua highly, even after his death.
"Yeah, Qiulu is indeed capable now; who would’ve thought she’d be the most promising one in the Sun family? But whether a person is truly capable can’t be reflected in herself, it can only be reflected through others," Sun Wei said.
Sun Mei adjusted her breathing; considering this matter, it seemed inevitable, unexpectedly Shen Zhenhua guessed right.
"Dad, if you have something to say, don’t hold it back," Sun Mei said.
"Coming to Jiang City this time, dad’s not planning to leave, intending to retire here. Sun Chao and Sun Fada aren’t promising; we can’t rely on them. Your mom and I can only rely on you for retirement," Sun Wei
Sun Wei’s words left Sun Mei speechless for a moment; she was the daughter, so supporting her parents in their old age was a given. But this matter of retirement should be on sons Sun Fada and Sun Chao, not her, just because she currently lives well doesn’t mean she must bear the responsibility.
As Sun Mei was about to speak, Sun Wei seemed to have timed it perfectly and continued, "But currently you’re technically part of the Shen family. If we let you support us for retirement, your mom and I would feel embarrassed. I thought it over for a long time; I plan to let them join Qiulu’s group to work so that Sun Chao and Sun Fada can settle down and then support us."
These words left Sun Mei unprepared; she could counter the initial words, but Sun Wei’s current words rendered her unable to retort at all.
The support in retirement is for Sun Chao and others, but arranging a job for them is merely a simple step, yet she couldn’t bring herself to refuse.
"I understand you’re worried they’ll slack off at work; rest assured, I’ll give them a little lecture shortly," Sun Wei said.
