The Cultivator's Reborn to 1970s
Chapter 331 - 285
CHAPTER 331: CHAPTER 285
Lan Tian didn’t know how to respond and looked towards Ji Feng, her eyes conveying the message, "Your grandpa, you deal with him."
"Grandpa, the food is getting cold. Let’s eat first!"
Their small gestures did not escape Mr. Ji’s keen eye. The smile on his face thickened, but his heart sank. He clearly saw that his silly boy had set his whole heart on the girl.
This granddaughter of Old Mo, he couldn’t see through her. According to the data they had investigated, she was just an ordinary country girl with no parents, living with an uncle and aunt, learned medicine from a young age, nothing special about her, except for being a bit more beautiful.
After meeting her in person, he felt that this girl seemed to have many secrets.
How did she get to know the silly boy? Where did her mysterious and unfathomable medical skills come from? She indulged and doted on the silly boy, and the way she looked at the silly boy was strange... that feeling... it was like an elder looking at a younger generation. Mr. Ji was startled, why did he have this odd thought?
Clearly, the young girl was a few years younger than his silly boy. Looking again, the two seemed to get along very well. Mr. Ji sighed silently to himself; this young girl was already married, and to a military man no less. His silly boy’s heart is going to be let down, but it might be good for a man to face some setbacks.
Mr. Ji was worrying over nothing, as the two had known each other in a past life. After the influence of two lifetimes, Ji Feng had developed a skin thick enough that even a laser cannon couldn’t penetrate. Feelings of loss and heartbreak wouldn’t appear on him; he would shamelessly hold onto Lan Tian without letting go.
There were only three of them eating in the house. Mr. Ji sat at the head of the table, with Lan Tian and Ji Feng on either side. After the meal began, Ji Feng moved next to Lan Tian to serve her, continuously putting food into Lan Tian’s bowl, all of which were her favorite dishes. As accurate as radar, whenever Lan Tian’s bowl was nearly empty, Ji Feng immediately added more food to it, his movements deft and natural as if he had done it thousands upon thousands of times. Mr. Ji watched with twitching eyes, feeling a mix of emotions inside, naturally not a pleasant sensation.
A girl he raised, pah, a grandson he raised, being led away by someone else. He himself had never enjoyed food served by the silly boy, but this little lass had taken the lead. He cast another glare at Ji Feng, this grandson, valuing love over family.
Mr. Ji’s glaring was in vain as Ji Feng’s mind was fully on Lan Tian and he was oblivious to the old man’s glaring, which only infuriated Mr. Ji even more.
"Alright, stop adding food, I can’t finish it all. Don’t just take care of me, you eat quickly too, or it will get cold." Looking at the pile of food in her bowl that was as high as a mountain, Lan Tian was at her wits’ end; she wasn’t a pig, how could she eat all that?
"It’s okay, if you can’t finish it, I’ll eat it." Ji Feng replied naturally. Mr. Ji didn’t know what to say upon hearing this, so he decided to pretend he hadn’t heard anything.
After the meal, the grandfather and grandson planned to go to the study to talk. Lan Tian wanted to stop them but then thought it would be better to talk in the study, so she followed the two upstairs.
In the study, the three were silent. Lan Tian followed them inside, clearly having something on her mind. Since she didn’t speak for a long time, it must be something difficult to handle or to start discussing. Mr. Ji gave Ji Feng a look, signaling him to start asking. As long as it did not violate his principles, he could agree to it.
Ji Feng shook his head, signaling the old man not to worry. He understood Lan Tian’s temperament; she must have her reasons for following them.
"Are you ready?" While the grandfather and grandson were exchanging looks, Lan Tian suddenly asked.
Prepare what? The grandfather and grandson were completely baffled, the statement was abrupt and incoherent, leaving them at a loss on what to prepare.
"Xiao Lan, prepare what?" This time no hint was needed from Mr. Ji, Ji Feng directly asked her.
"Retrieve the poison." Lan Tian looked at the two, puzzled. Wasn’t this her purpose for coming here? But now the grandfather and grandson were asking her; perhaps there was another reason. "What, can it not be done now?"
If they don’t want it retrieved, they can decide for themselves, she would just leave if they refused.
"Retrieve the poison?" Upon hearing these words, Mr. Ji squinted his eyes, deep in thought, and quickly regained his composure to ask her, "Girl, you’ve found out what’s wrong with the old man, not sickness but poisoning."
"Yes, didn’t Ji Feng tell you? Both of you, grandfather and grandson, are poisoned, poisoned by mother-child poison, Ji Feng with the child poison and you with the mother poison. The poison has been in your bodies for over a decade." Lan Tian glared at Ji Feng, annoyed that he hadn’t yet told Mr. Ji such a significant matter, Ji Feng touched his nose, his eyes wavering, since he hadn’t found the right moment to come clean to the old man.
"The Bloodthirsty Worm isn’t from this realm, it’s very elusive and hidden at the crown of the heart. The child poison in Ji Feng can be removed with ease, I guess its master must have been seriously injured. The mother poison in you, Old Ji, is even harder to retrieve. If we don’t seize this opportunity, and the master of the poison recovers, I might not be able to remove it later on."
This realm?
This term was not unfamiliar to Mr. Ji, a gleam of understanding flashed in his eyes. In Dragon Country, there has always been a hidden history unknown to ordinary people, known only to a few families with power. To rephrase, only the rulers of Dragon Country were qualified to know these secrets. Still, outstanding individuals continued to exist among the common people.
Could it be this girl is also one of them... The more Mr. Ji pondered it, the more it seemed possible. It made sense why the girl had so many mysterious skills. They couldn’t have been taught by Old Mo, and certainly not by the girl’s old-fashioned uncle. Perhaps, it was worth asking his foolish grandson. Mr. Ji had an intuition that he ought to know.
After exchanging a glance with his grandson, it was Ji Feng who finally spoke, "Didn’t you say this afternoon that the old man was weak and proposed to apply acupuncture for a week before removing the poison?"
"Don’t you always say that in war there’s no such thing as too much deception? I said that to mislead our enemy. We have no clues about who’s behind the poisoning. Whoever easily managed to poison both of you must be familiar with the layout of this residence. Everyone in this house is suspect, my words were intended for them to hear." Lan Tian was exasperated, the grandfather and grandson had been astute all their lives, but now they were being obtuse.
"You just mentioned that the master of the poison insect was injured?" Mr. Ji seized the critical point.
"Yes, the child poison is still in my possession, so the poison master does not know yet. Once I extract the mother poison from your body, the moment it leaves the body, the poison master will notice. We’ll alert the snake by hitting the grass; the person behind the poisoning will hide even deeper and be harder to find. So, Old Ji, are you still set on removing the poison?"
"Remove the poison." Ji Feng’s expression was resolute; nothing was more important than the well-being of the old man.
"Alright, I’ll go back and prepare. I’ll return after two hours," Lan Tian stood up to leave and added at the doorway, "It’s best to do it in the old man’s bedroom."
Watching Lan Tian’s retreating figure, Ji Feng was pensive.
"Do you have a suspect in mind?" Mr. Ji glanced at Ji Feng; his grandson was not only in poor health, his intelligence and scheming were impeccable. Not to brag, but even the few old-timers like them might not match up to him. He was a natural-born politician.
