CHAPTER 57: 57: TEA

Sue

I was gasping for breath as I sat up, unable to believe what I just dreamt about.

What the fuck was that?

A shudder raked down my spine and I wrapped my arms around myself while trying to slow my racing heartbeat down, but it was fruitless cause it still continued to pound away, and each time I closed my eyes, it felt like I was being returned to that daunting dream which made no sense to me.

I let out a slow exhale as I got out of the bed to go take a shower. I was relieved that each room here in the slave quarter had personal bathrooms instead of a general one used by everyone.

By the time I was done showering, the dsy had already fully broken and unfortunately, it was time for me to resume my daily tasks. I went to the kitchen and grabbed the tea I’d be serving the princes, and as I went up to their rooms, I kept trying to think of what all that went down last night was about. The sound of those loud roars I heard last night... where were they from?

Another shudder rolled down my spine from just thinking about it and I tried to shove that thought to the back of my mind cause it was starting to mess with my head. I hesitated before knocking on their door this morning.

A quiet voice asked me to come in, and on stepping in, my breath caught in my throat cause Damon was alone in here and at once, my mind went back to last night, to the sight of his brothers holding him in place.

What had that been about? I was very tempted to ask but I had a feeling he wouldn’t tell me, and I also reminded myself to not care about whatever it is that’s going on with them.

I held his tea out to him and instead of accepting it, his eyes raked over me instead.

"Aren’t you supposed to greet me first?" He questioned. "For a maid, you lack manners."

He drawled and I rolled my eyes. "Well, perhaps it’s because I’m not actually a maid, have you tried thinking of that?"

His lips thinned and he rose to his full height, towering over me and making me swallow the rest of my words.

"Don’t start getting mouthy with me now." He warned as he accepted the tea then sniffed it.

"I hope this isn’t poisoned?"

I rolled my eyes and remained silent, watching as he finally took a sip.

"You might not have heard, but my brothers and I would be getting married tomorrow." He stated, completely catching me off guard and I quickly schooled my facial expression before giving a tense nod.

"Well, congrats then." I snapped and he snorted.

"You don’t sound happy."

"Of course I don’t, when you won’t just reject me." I pointed out and he sighed before setting his tea on his desk and taking a step closer to me, prompting me to take one back.

"We’ll reject you soon, after we make use of you." He offered and I scoffed, starting to feel annoyed all over again.

"If that’s all, I’d be leaving now." I bit out and when he didn’t respond, I picked up the tray again and turned to leave.

"By how you’re acting right now, I take it you didn’t see anything you weren’t supposed to last night." He stated and I stumbled to a stop.

"I— I don’t think so." I muttered after glancing back at him.

He nodded once as he picked his tea back up. "Good."

Instead of leaving, I decided to ask, even though it had nothing to do with me. "If you all don’t like your betrothed, why are you all getting married to them?"

"I dont think that’s any of your concern." He pointed out and I rolled my eyes.

"Of course."

When I turned to leave, he stopped me again, and as I turned around, he walked around his desk to come super close to me that I inched backward but he came even closer, then he was tilting my chin up and I hated the sparks that slicked through the spot his finger came in contact with.

"Did someone hit you?" He asked as he looked over my face and I realized he was referring to the slaps and punched he and his brothers’ betrothed brides left over my face last night cause they knew I wouldn’t be able to do a thing about it.

I jerked my chin away from his grip and glared at him. "Who else could have done it aside from you and your brothers’ betrothed brides?!" I snapped and his eyes widened before they darkened, then he was grasping my chin and jerking me closer in such a swift way that had the breath flying out from my lungs in a whoosh.

"They laid their hands on you?" He asked in a low voice and I cleared my throat, feeling weirdly breathless as I nodded.

"Well, yes, cause they know now that I’m a slave, I can’t dare lay a hand on them."

His eyes were still dark but he ended up nodding once, a furious expression still across his face as he dropped my chin and took a step back.

"You may leave now, my brothers are in their fellow offices." He said as he turned away, leaving me to awkwardly nod at his broad back before I also turned away to leave.

When I went into the office next door to Damon’s, Angelo and Landon were in there, and after handing their their tea, they refused to let me leave to my utmost irritation. Landon grabbed my wrist, and made me plop down over the desk in here, while Angelo had his hands folded at the side.

"You must have some questions about last night." Angelo stated and I shook my head fast.

"I don’t."

"You little liar." Landon snorted while rolling his eyes.
