The Dark Rebirth of Pandora: Revenge of the Abyss
Chapter 449: Evolving Into a New Form of Life
CHAPTER 449: EVOLVING INTO A NEW FORM OF LIFE
Two perfectly peaceful weeks have passed—it’s almost strange, really. Ever since I got my revenge, I’ve gained so much extra time that I’ve managed to help my kingdom expand even more!
Zephyra has also made significant progress. She still can’t eat normal food, but she can already bathe by herself and walk around the room without staying still for too long.
She’s also started to accept people being near her, although in extremely limited numbers, and they shouldn’t get too close. She can also eat by herself now, drinking semen from bowls.
And with that, I know she can already be alone without needing me around. So, I’ve left the castle in Elena’s care while I decided to go to the moon to check on my sister’s seal.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure where it is, but with my current power, I should be able to detect the seal by myself. So, I’m preparing to fly.
"Are you sure about this, Pandora?" Elena asks me as I stand on the highest point of the castle, ready to fly off.
"Yes, Elena! I should be able to," I say confidently, looking at Elena. Her wings are quite beautiful and interesting to look at.
"By the way, Elena, I never forgot that I want to fuck you and your mother at the same time!!! So, you can expect that day to still come!" When I say this, she blushes in embarrassment.
’Let’s see...this planet’s atmosphere is dozens of times more dangerous than Earth’s atmosphere...’ I’m analyzing this planet’s layers with magic to see how much strength I need to reach space.
’This planet’s gravitational pull is 234 times stronger than Earth’s gravitational pull...the temperature in the upper layers ranges from -220 degrees to 15,000 degrees Celsius...it’s both very hot and very cold...’ These are dangerous temperature variations.
’The escape velocity needed just to leave the planet will be absurd...on top of that, teleportation is useless...’ While analyzing the planet’s layers, I noticed the ambient Mana forms a kind of "barrier" that protects the planet.
It’s literally the magic that keeps all the races alive and prevents them from getting roasted by the heat emitted by the star this planet is orbiting.
However, this same Mana creates a shield that prevents things from inside from easily trying to leave. If I try to use teleportation or darkness to move, it will be like there’s a solid wall in the way, blocking those abilities.
In other words, I need to get up there with pure, brute power. But if Lilith managed it, then I can too.
Besides, I have ways to deal with the temperature! All thanks to Lilith herself. Having devoured her body gave me the perfect trait for this situation.
Thermo-Psychic Regulation - The ability to control body temperature through the mind, manually adjusting the body’s internal temperature to rapidly adapt to ambient temperature changes, as well as being able to superheat the body to eliminate parasitic invaders.
"I’m going now, Elena! Wish me luck!! Also, tell Beta to be ready, because at any moment I might return with my sister if all goes well!" I say while spreading a pair of wings that are four times my size.
"Okay, Pandora!!" I gather strength and mana in my wings and flap them. A single motion shoots me kilometers upward as I continue flapping them rapidly to climb higher.
The first thing I feel when I get really high is cold, a bone-chilling cold. Because of the ambient mana, the temperature here manages to penetrate my mana armor and severely affect my body.
I start using Thermo-Psychic Regulation to control my body’s temperature as I climb even higher, feeling my body grow heavy.
’It’s like trying to pass through a wall that keeps stretching...’ I feel that if I don’t keep increasing my strength, I’ll be flung back like a slingshot.
When I pass the first layer, I immediately feel a horrible heat, but thanks to the fact that I’m already well-adapted to high temperatures, it’s bearable. I see my skin burning from the temperature, so I regulate my body again to adjust.
’First layers passed successfully...now for the more difficult ones...’ I start using Mana as a propellant to launch myself even more powerfully upward. The G-force is so high that I feel my bones twisting, as if I’m trying to force my way through something solid.
As I climb higher and look down, I can see a large part of the planet. It’s beautiful, and it would be even more beautiful if I didn’t feel the tissues of my skin fragmenting.
’This must be radiation...it’s...much worse than Earth’s radiation...’ On Earth, I was hit by bombs that had radiation, and I felt nothing from it.
But in this world, the solar radiation is so intense, concentrated, and violent that I feel it destroying the cells of my body on the slightest contact.
’If I had tried to do this in the past, my body would have fragmented into pieces...’ The cellular destruction here is undoubtedly very high. I notice some bleeding, but I can resist it well with regeneration while my body adapts to the high radiation.
’The thermal shock is annoying...’ I feel my bones cracking from the violent temperature changes and the mix of stellar radiation.
"Ghhhmm" I let out a pained sound as I pass through another layer of the planet. It was a direct "dive" into spatial plasma; this is the part of the planet that prevents solar radiation from reaching with full potency.
’The plasma is so destructive...’ I look at my wings before everything goes dark and I go blind, but I quickly regenerate and can see again.
’My wings aren’t holding up...’ I realize that flapping my wings no longer has enough force to escape the gravity. Here, it’s so intense and so strong that I’m completely losing speed, along with taking damage.
I change the shape of my wings to something resembling the wings of a modern jet, and through them, I channel magic and release it to generate a kind of mana rocket. By rapidly using a large amount, I reach the necessary speed again to continue climbing.
’I can’t breathe anymore...’ At some point, I could no longer breathe. So, I feel the unpleasant suffocation as my lungs contract violently while I approach the vacuum of space.
I focus much of my energy on adaptation so my body adjusts quickly to the extreme environment. Fortunately, besides adaptation, I also have a passive that helps me adjust to extreme environments faster.
Soon, my body’s regeneration keeps up with all the damage and even surpasses it, allowing my body to return to normal. There is no oxygen here, and any other gas seems extremely scarce.
So, my lungs adapt, functioning as a storage unit that starts absorbing hydrogen, replacing oxygen with it to maintain my body’s functions.
’If my body preferred to absorb hydrogen for me to breathe...it means I wouldn’t last long enough to not need any gas at all...’ I guess this is the "weakness" of my adaptation.
It’s fast, but when many things happen at once, it can’t focus on just one thing, so it divides its efforts into everything and finds the quickest solution.
If the only problem were not breathing, my body would naturally adapt to live without even needing to breathe. But since there’s radiation, heat, cold, plasma, and other small problems, my body didn’t have time to pick the best solution.
’This...is actually pretty good?’ I feel my whole body adjusting to the new gas, and I must say...I prefer it over oxygen. Hydrogen is extremely light and "clean," which is why my whole body feels different with it in place of oxygen.
I feel my body expelling all the oxygen inside and replacing it with hydrogen, albeit in smaller quantities since the amount of hydrogen per cubic meter in space is low.
I feel my sense of smell sharpening absurdly, my hearing heightening, and my taste changing. My body’s receptors changed to be able to detect simple molecules.
I can now smell things no human or animal would be capable of smelling—literally the scent that molecules have. The flood of new information is strange but pleasant.
However, if I can now detect such minute scents, naturally normal smells have amplified so much that they’ll feel like a viscous fog.
’Shit, the smell of blood, sweat, semen, and any other fluid must be fucking awful, it’s so strong...how the hell do I remove an adaptation? I don’t want to breathe hydrogen for the rest of my life!!!’ I feel a cold taste.
’Can I feel the taste of the molecules around me? How crazy...it’s actually...kinda tasty...I like it...not better than Delphina’s blood...but still pretty good...’ I can also hear sounds absurdly more efficiently.
Sound travels four times faster in hydrogen, so my body, which changed to use this gas, has all its senses sharpened to an extremely high level.
’When I return to land, I’m going to suffer so much...my body is too sensitive to any stimulus...’ Finally, my body reaches the vacuum of space, completely leaving the planet, which allows me to stop using mana to propel myself.
At this point, I’ve already adapted to everything that was causing me damage and I’m just finishing regenerating.
"Space...seems to vibrate." I put my hands over my ears, feeling discomfort. I can hear the molecules in the environment vibrating, the sound of them separating and joining—sounds no one should hear, but that I can hear now.
’Unpleasant...I hate this change...’ I liked the changes to smell and taste because they were interesting, but the change in hearing is unpleasant.
"Ugh...this is so disgusting..." I look at my hands. My sense of touch has become so acute that I can feel the impact of energetic particles. It’s so disgustingly strange.
’Dammit, dammit!! My body is a mess...AAHH!! MY EYES!!! FUCK!!’ My vision adjusts to the new gas in my body, and then I see.
Ultraviolet, extreme infrared, microwaves and their thermal variations, cosmic radiation as points of energy, and weak electromagnetic waves. It’s hellish for my eyes, which before only saw in another way.
’Dammit, my brain seems to be collapsing!! It feels like they’re frying it with so much information from all sides!! What pain!!’ I want to hold my head, but I don’t want to touch my own body because the sense of touch is a mess.
’What hell...damn adaptation...if I knew this shit would do this to my body, I would have created armor that simulates Earth’s atmosphere...’ I retract my wings, looking around.
Space is a complete mess to me. Unlike a human, who would see space as an "infinite" void with stars and planets, I see a fucking mess of colors, molecules, particles, and cosmic radiation.
"This hurts so much...my eyes feel like they’re burning..." I hear my voice. It’s become higher-pitched and strange.
"FUCK, MY VOICE...what the hell...my voice sounds like that of a fucking spoiled brat..." I can’t stop cursing these changes. My voice has become so sharp and thin, nothing like my beautiful, seductive voice from before.
’This adaptation screwed up my body!! If this was how it was going to be, I would have preferred to stay without breathing while my lungs took damage!!’ In space, my voice doesn’t come out as a sound, but rather as an electromagnetic vibration.
So, back on land, my voice will probably be slightly less shrill than this, since there will be other gases to vibrate.
"Big sister, this better be worth it, me coming to save you!! Why did I fuck up my body like this!!" I say indignantly. Honestly, my skin crawls just thinking about returning to the planet. If space is already this painful mess of colors, "sounds," and tastes, imagine the planet?
"The dress is so...disgusting." I tear off my clothes violently, deciding to stay completely naked. I’m not ready to wear the dress; my brain is still adjusting to the flood of sensations and information.
Until then, I can’t wear clothes. The fabric touching my skin is rough...and sticky, and gritty in a way that displeases my perception.
"What’s the best method of flight?" I think of a way to fly. I shouldn’t waste magic stupidly, since the ambient mana in space, while it exists, is in smaller quantities.
’I guess normal wings won’t work...but maybe if I adjust them a bit...though I need time...’ I decide to drift in space for now. I want to let my body get used to this before I try to move.
"It feels like the sea..." Because of the changes in my body, I can feel the touch of the molecules. Floating in space is like being immersed in a deep, dense ocean.
