CHAPTER 101: 101: ONE PERSON, ONE CAT, ONE RABBIT (2)_1

She caught sight of the fat bunny and the little kitten guarding Haoming’s feet on either side, and she picked up a slice of meat to place in front of the kitten and took some greens to feed the rabbit.

The kitten and the fat bunny were eating deliciously. Haoming looked at the dishes on the dining table, blinked his eyes, then picked up his chopsticks and ate a small bite. Next, his eyes shone brightly, and he quickly stuffed a big mouthful of rice into his mouth, followed by grabbing a slice of lean pork, eating so that his cheeks bulged with flavor.

Dong Huiying saw him scarfing down the food, and her sense of accomplishment suddenly soared. Her big eyes smiled and curved like crescent moons.

......

After the whirlwind of eating had passed, Dong Huiying squinted her eyes and sighed with emotion, "This is the life for a person."

A pot of rice had been eaten completely clean by the two of them, the plate that had held stir-fried meat looked as if it had been licked clean, and even a bowl of green vegetable soup had all been drunk up.

Haoming kept a straight face as he got up to tidy up the bowls and chopsticks. Dong Huiying called out to him, "Wait," then she touched the corner of her own mouth, "Here, you have some rice on your face."

Haoming paused for a moment, then touched the side of his mouth, and indeed found a grain of rice.

He treasured it as he licked it into his mouth, then his neck turned an even darker shade of red, somewhat embarrassed as he carried the dishes towards the well.

Dong Huiying chuckled.

This man really was adorable.

Born with a strong and majestic physique, always wearing an icy, stern poker-face, rarely showing mirth in daily life, yet he had a kind and tender heart.

She squatted down, scratched the kitten’s chin, and said, "He’s really funny, isn’t he?"

"Meow-wow—" The kitten opened its mouth wide, seemingly very much in agreement with Dong Huiying’s thoughts.

Latter, Haoming heated a pot of water with the big wok used for frying, and from somewhere, he brought out a large bathing tub. By the time Dong Huiying had come to her senses, she saw the bathing water was already prepared in the room. She couldn’t help but let out a light laugh; this man might be a bit slow, but he was also very considerate.

......

On a spring evening, with a pleasantly cool breeze, Haoming sat on a low stool, holding the rabbit in one arm and embracing the little kitten with the other, gazing at the night sky dotted with chilly stars.

He seemed to be in a daze, maintaining that position for a very long time. Only when his neck grew sore did he slowly turn around to look toward the inside of the house, where bags and parcels were piled up like a small mountain.

His thoughts returned to the meal they had that evening—it was the best he’d ever had in his life, with meat that was fragrant and a soup that tasted good.

Even though the food in his stomach had not yet fully digested, the secretion of saliva made him feel a hunger originating from deep within his soul.

He really wanted to eat.

And wanted to eat again.

His eyes turned furtively toward the door. At first, the sound of water told him she was taking a bath, but gradually the sound ceased, and no other noises were heard.

He hesitated for a moment in his heart.

"Knock knock knock."

After knocking, he waited patiently, but there was no response.

He couldn’t help but feel puzzled.

"Knock knock knock,"

Still no answer.

"Meow—" The kitten seemed to find his slowness irritating, and suddenly darted out from his embrace, colliding with the room door and pushing it open.

With a creak, the door swung open.

Haoming was startled at first but then saw, inside the room, the young girl sitting in the wooden tub, fast asleep, face-up, clearly exhausted from the day’s efforts.

Waves of steam rose to his neck, causing him hesitation as he stepped into the room. As he got closer, the girl’s body became fully visible, and the layers upon layers of scars on her also deeply shocked him.
