CHAPTER 137: 137: WITH A COLD FACE (5)_1
If her attitude towards Liang Yuening before could be described as cold as ice, now it was like the spring returning to the earth, with warmth and flowers blooming.
She couldn’t help but laugh, "Yes, I’m back."
In her previous life, she had many friends but few whom she shared her heart with. Her family members had passed away early, and the norm of her life was to be alone, living by herself, managing her own life. But now, she had the Liang family, and when coming home, there was someone who would say ’You’re back’, which really felt very nice.
Yixuan took the basket from Dong Huiying’s hands; he glanced at the ugly little medicine basket, his expression filled with a hint of teasing mockery.
Dong Huiying felt awkward; she scratched her neck, "Ahem, nobody’s perfect."
"Hmm..." Yixuan seemed to agree, but what was with this elongated drawl? It only made her feel more awkward and embarrassed.
"Ahem ahem, is there anything to eat at home?" She wisely shifted Yixuan’s attention.
Yixuan immediately said, "Yes, please wait a moment."
First, Yixuan moved a washbasin over, attended to her as she washed her face, prepared clean clothes for her, and then brought out the food that had been kept warm on the stove, originally prepared for his second brother and Shu Yu.
Dong Huiying truly felt that this kind of life was really good.
After freshening up, Dong Huiying relaxed and enjoyed Yixuan’s services, while Yue Ning was like an invisible mass of air. He stood outside his own yard. This was clearly his own home. Before, no matter how hard or tired he was outside, as long as he came home, he could feel a sense of belonging. But why did he now feel a different kind of sentiment, to the extent that he didn’t dare to step through his own door?
He pressed his lips downward and then suddenly turned and headed towards the river.
Squatting by the river, he scooped up the icy river water and splashed it on his face repeatedly. After several times, he let out a deep breath.
"Yue Ning."
A voice came from behind him.
Yue Ning’s body stiffened, and as he turned around, he saw his second brother, dressed in a jade-colored robe, coming out of Baiyang Forest by the riverbank.
His face was full of discomfiture, and his expression changed rapidly.
"Second Brother," he straightened up, lowered his head, feeling inexplicably unable to meet his second brother’s eyes.
Shu Yu tilted his head; his indifferent and cool gaze fell on Yue Ning.
He just looked at him, his face showing no hint of trivial emotions, but this kind of gaze only increased the pressure on Yue Ning.
"Had a fight with her?"
Yue Ning instinctively looked up at his second brother, his eyes meeting Shu Yu’s squarely, which startled him and made him hastily look down again.
His second brother appeared as if he could see through everything, and Yue Ning disliked this feeling.
"No."
He replied against his will.
Shu Yu lowered his eyes, and the two brothers stood quietly by the river.
After a long while, Shu Yu appeared contemplative.
"I understand now."
Understood now?
Yue Ning was taken aback and almost bit his tongue. Following that was a deep sense of panic.
"Second Brother...?" He looked bewildered as if he wanted to explain, but then he thought, why did he need to explain?
He hadn’t done anything too outrageous. He was just in a very bad mood, and his second brother wasn’t a worm in his stomach that could know his thoughts. So why cover up a falsehood?
A bit dazed and confused, he wiped his face, his head feeling dull, and perhaps even he wasn’t quite clear about his real thoughts at this moment.
Shu Yu adjusted the robe on his shoulders, his eyes warming slightly, "Let’s go, let’s go home. The weather in the mountains is still a bit cold."
