The Duke's Masked Wife 2: The Prince's Outcast Bride
Chapter 260: Knowing your place (4)
CHAPTER 260: KNOWING YOUR PLACE (4)
Before the guards could stop Tyrion, the deed was done.
Tyrion dropped the sword after silencing Solomon.
"You can torture yourself by listening to him speak about your wife, but I won’t allow it for mine. The ladies will not come this far so clean it up in secret," Tyrion said, not regretting his actions.
Tyrion walked around the table with one destination in mind.
"Where are you going?" Tobias asked, grabbing Tyrion’s arm when he came close.
"To get my wife so we can go home," Tyrion replied.
Tyrion pulled his arm out of his father’s hold.
It was a mistake to bring Penelope to the palace.
Tyrion already had plenty of fears about Penelope being targeted as his mother once was to prolong her having a child or worse.
Tobias followed Tyrion out of the room. "You don’t need to take her from the palace. I am overseeing that there are guards to watch what is placed in the food served to the ladies in the palace. Your mother no longer lets anything slip by her."
Tobias didn’t get to see Tyrion as much as he liked, so he made plans for Penelope and Tyrion to stay in the palace a little longer once the other guests were gone.
"Trust your mother and me a little better that we will keep you and Penelope safe. We don’t want you to experience what we did. Do you not trust us?" Tobias asked, grabbing Tyrion’s arm once more.
Tyrion stopped walking to address his father. "I trust both of you, but I do not trust anyone else here. The maids, the guards, the men and the women who enter the palace. I can’t trust any of them around my wife. The best way for Penelope to be safe is to keep her away from the palace."
"Tyrion, you just killed the last of the old court. I know that there are many dangers that still linger, but we have made a step forward. Don’t make a rash decision now," Tobias advised Tyrion.
Tobias continued to say, "Since you arrived, there hasn’t been a guard to come to us to speak of trouble with the ladies. That means Penelope must be enjoying herself here. To uproot her because of what you feel would be selfish."
Tobias patted Tyrion’s arm. "Believe me, I know that anger of wanting to kill everyone because you believe they pose a threat to your wife, but sometimes, you have to let her enjoy herself and protect her from the sidelines."
Tobias got angry when Solomon mentioned what happened to Hazel, but Tyrion got to Solomon before he did. Luckily, Tobias got all that he needed from Solomon, so his early death didn’t ruin anything.
"I will stay," Tyrion said, deciding not to ruin Penelope’s time here.
"Good. You’ll need a drink after what you did. Let me pour one for you," Tobias offered. "You also need to get cleaned up since there is blood on your shirt and hands."
Tobias had many ideas of how capturing Solomon would go, but never had he thought of Tyrion taking off Solomon’s head.
It was done so clean that Tobias wondered how Tyrion learned to do it and how many times he had done it.
Tyrion walked with his father to get a drink.
While the palace was still dangerous, they should celebrate that there was one less enemy to be concerned about.
"Mark will have plenty of work to do," said Tyrion.
Tyrion knew not to expect news of who Cassius and Quinn were anytime soon since there was other work for Mark to do. Rather than depend solely on Mark, Tyrion had to come to the palace court to find what he wanted.
"There are still the courts outside of the palace. Those who aren’t doing their jobs will be sent out. We have the matter of the killer to be solved, so I cannot dismiss all the men inside the court now," said Tobias.
"Edgar is still leading the search, so you should stay with him. It will give you the chance to speak to him more often," Tobias suggested.
"I am doing my search whilst working with the duke," Tyrion answered.
"Good. You have always noticed things others do not. With you and Edgar searching for the one behind this, it will be solved in no time. I do not like what is becoming of this town," Tobias said, worried about the future.
"You said you have a list of men working with the court in secret. Look into what else they do and get rid of them," Tyrion advised his father.
"I have already started doing so. I have removed plenty of people, and then after a few years, there’s a new face to replace them. It’s a never-ending cycle. That’s why no matter where you go with Penelope, you must come back to help your brother. You owe him," said Tobias.
In the past, Tobias wished he had more siblings to aid him. Fortunately, he had friends who stood by him.
"I am never going to leave Teo or Hailey," said Tyrion.
Tyrion never made any plans to leave behind his siblings. Getting out of Lockwood with Penelope later did not mean he wouldn’t come back to see his siblings.
"Hailey is not going to be sent off somewhere far to end any conflict," Tyrion said.
"No, she is not. Your aunt married for love, and I will do the same for my daughter. Speaking of Hailey, you should visit her. She is upset she is not old enough to join the other ladies today," Tobias shared.
Hailey would forget what upset her once she saw Tyrion.
Meanwhile, in the court outside the palace, Kate held Noah’s hand as she stared at the men passing by her.
It had been so long since Kate set foot in the court or went outside her gates.
It felt like everyone passing by was staring at her, but in reality, they were busy with their work and had forgotten about Kate.
"I am here," Noah said, reminding Kate.
"It is hard to forget that you are here when you are squeezing my hand. Why are you the more nervous one?" Kate asked, looking down at their hands. "You’re the one who said I should go outside our home."
"But I didn’t think your first place to visit would be here," said Noah.
"You haven’t been able to find Warren, and strangely, that man hasn’t come back to us. I am certain he hasn’t forgotten. I have some money to offer for what Warren took, but we need help, and there is someone who can help," Kate said, watching as the man she came to see appeared.
Kate didn’t want to see Mark again, but she didn’t have a choice.
"We cannot do this alone," Kate said.
Kate shyly raised her hand and waved at Mark when he noticed her.
