The Enhanced Doctor
Chapter 211 Miscarried Girl
CHAPTER 211: 211 MISCARRIED GIRL
(Thanks to my friend, the Lonely Bookworm, for the super-vote encouragement)
Before Qiaoqiao arrived, Liu Haibing and his father showed up.
"Why did you both come? Are you feeling unwell again?" Liu Banxia asked.
"No big issues. We just needed blood workups again, and Dad wanted to visit you along the way," Liu Haibing replied with a smile.
"Ah... I’ve been so busy with work recently that I’d quite forgotten about this," Liu Banxia said with a bitter smile.
"I heard you’ve been promoted. That’s a good thing. Talented people should be in managerial positions," Uncle Liu said.
"When you have your days off, be sure to come over to our house. I can’t drink alcohol anymore, but I can accompany you for the meal. They’ve been keeping a strict eye on me lately, only allowing me a small sip every few days," Uncle Liu continued.
Liu Banxia couldn’t help but laugh. "That seems like a good deal. As for alcohol, it’s fine as long as you can taste it a bit. Isn’t it about time for your appointment? Don’t let me delay you."
"Alright, remember to call me when you’re off," Liu Haibing said.
Liu Banxia nodded, although he was unsure if he could manage a visit. He appreciated Liu Haibing. Liu Haibing had been very considerate, which had saved Zhou Li a lot of money on her house purchase and renovation.
After waiting for nearly twenty more minutes, Qiaoqiao finally arrived, supporting a girl in her twenties who was pale and clutching her abdomen.
"Abdominal pain? Is it from diarrhea or sudden onset?" Liu Banxia asked as he approached them.
"Could we go inside to talk? The situation is a bit complicated," Qiaoqiao said.
Liu Banxia glanced at them and nodded, then beckoned to Liang Xiaolin and Qing Kewa.
"Alright, now can you tell me what happened?" Liu Banxia asked after they moved to Treatment Room 2.
"She seems to have had a miscarriage," Qiaoqiao said.
"What... are you trying to make me die of anger? Why didn’t you say this earlier?! Dr. Liang, you do the examination, and don’t forget the full blood workup. Qiaoqiao, come with me outside," Liu Banxia said, glaring at her.
"Why are you being so fierce? I only found out today too," Qiaoqiao retorted, looking at him.
"You! You just love messing around. How can I handle such a situation here? Why didn’t you go straight to the maternity hospital? Now I have to call a gynecologist for a consultation," Liu Banxia said.
"Why are you being so fierce? She isn’t married yet, and when she told me, I naturally thought of you," Qiaoqiao said pitifully.
"This is such a headache! I’m not omnipotent, you know. I can handle emergencies and general illnesses, but gynecological problems require a specialist. Where’s her boyfriend?" Liu Banxia asked.
"I haven’t asked," Qiaoqiao said.
Liu Banxia rolled his eyes. "Does she have a steady boyfriend, or was this from some side hustle? Does she want to keep the baby, or terminate the pregnancy? Do you know any of this?"
Qiaoqiao shook her head blankly. "I don’t know. But I do know she doesn’t have a boyfriend."
Liu Banxia was genuinely at a loss for words. The situation is already pretty clear. However, he had no right to judge her situation; it was not within his professional purview.
Still, it was commendable that Qiaoqiao had immediately driven her to the hospital upon learning of the situation.
"We’ve drawn her blood. Should we do a bedside ultrasound here, or wait for the gynecologist?" Liang Xiaolin asked as she walked out of the treatment room.
"Let’s wait for the gynecologist. Did she say anything?" Liu Banxia asked.
"She didn’t say much. She really wants to keep the baby, but I think it’s looking pretty doubtful," Liang Xiaolin replied.
Liu Banxia nodded. There was nothing they could do at the moment except wait for the gynecologist’s professional opinion.
Just then, Huang Ying, an attending physician from the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, walked over. Liu Banxia hurriedly went up to her. "Dr. Huang, we’ve only done a basic physical examination and blood draw. It seems the patient wishes to keep the baby."
"Have you done an ultrasound?" Dr. Huang asked.
"Not yet. We were afraid we might misinterpret it without your expertise," Liu Banxia answered promptly.
"Alright, leave it to me. Which room?" Huang Ying asked.
"Treatment Room 2. Dr. Liang, please show Dr. Huang the way," Liu Banxia said.
"Sigh... so worrying. If you were pregnant, you should have told me. I could have given you time off to rest and focus on your pregnancy," Qiaoqiao muttered.
"Alright, don’t dwell on it. There could be many reasons for this, and it’s not necessarily due to work," Liu Banxia comforted her.
"Dr. Liu, this gentleman is a family member of the patient, Chen Na. He’s looking for her," Xu Dan said, leading a middle-aged man wearing glasses over.
"Chen Na? Are you the one who got Chen Na pregnant?" Qiaoqiao’s eyes widened.
The man with glasses frowned, clearly annoyed by Qiaoqiao’s question. "Nana is my girlfriend. Doctor, are Nana’s test results out yet?"
"The OB-GYN physician is currently performing an examination. Whether the baby can be saved will depend on the results. Please wait a little longer," Liu Banxia said, gently pulling Qiaoqiao behind him.
"Sigh... We only found out a few days ago that Nana was pregnant. We were all so happy. How did this happen?" the man with glasses said, clutching his head as he sat down to the side.
"See? That’s the legitimate boyfriend. I guess she valued the baby so much that she didn’t tell him directly," Liu Banxia said, pulling Qiaoqiao further aside.
"Then he should have taken Nana to live with him! Why let her keep staying in the dorm?" Qiaoqiao pouted.
"You guys provide dormitory accommodations?" Liu Banxia asked curiously.
"Of course! But they’re all rented apartments in residential buildings. I collect a bit of rent, which is still better than them renting random places on their own outside," Qiaoqiao said.
Liu Banxia gave her a thumbs up. "It’s rare to see such a good boss. Very decent and respectable."
"Well, whether they’re our technicians or security guards, we provide accommodation and two meals a day. It’s about putting yourself in their shoes, you know? The monthly expenditure isn’t too much, as long as they don’t get into trouble," Qiaoqiao said.
"It’s pretty much like that. People from Binhai City rarely do this kind of work; they’re mostly migrants from out of town. If we don’t help them with food and lodging, how much money can they actually make?"
"If I’d known earlier, I would’ve moonlighted watching over your place. When I was a resident, I earned very little. After paying rent, there was hardly anything left," Liu Banxia said with a wry smile.
"Tsk, tsk, so you have such a sob story, huh? Stop changing the subject. When are you going to stand up for Jiaojiao? You promised last time, you can’t go back on your word," Qiaoqiao said.
"I’ll have to wait for my day off. It looks like I won’t have to go out for surgeries during my next break. I’ll let you know then; I’m not sure when my next day off will be yet. A new batch of interns and residents arrived today, and I need to get them settled in," Liu Banxia said.
"By the way, do you know any good, affordable places where we can play some small games or have a group meal? I’m planning a welcome event for them, less than sixty people."
"Distance? And what do you want to do? For simple team building, you could go to a farmhouse resort. For something a bit classier, you can go to my family’s restaurant. If you want something trendier, you could rent a nice villa for a house party. Why are you looking at me like that? Weren’t you the one who asked?" Qiaoqiao said after thinking for a moment.
"Your family owns a restaurant?" Liu Banxia asked curiously.
"Jinbao Grand Hotel is ours. It’s been open for many years," Qiaoqiao said, rolling her eyes at him.
"Tsk, tsk, so you’re a genuine little rich missy," Liu Banxia remarked.
This was truly new information to him. Jinbao Grand Hotel was an old, established hotel in Binhai City, and not a cheap place to dine. He hadn’t expected it to be Qiaoqiao’s family business. Their financial strength was genuinely impressive.
"What are you scheming?" Qiaoqiao asked warily.
"What could I be scheming? I need to think about how exactly to do this welcome event. I’ll consult you then," Liu Banxia said.
"Don’t worry, I’ll give you a discount. It won’t cost much," Qiaoqiao said generously.
At this moment, Xu Dan returned with Chen Na’s complete blood test results. Liu Banxia didn’t look at them, telling her to take them directly to the treatment room.
Although he had some knowledge of obstetrics and gynecology, it was merely superficial. Even if he looked at those reports, it would be useless. Ultimately, Dr. Huang would have to make the judgment.
Liu Banxia and Qiaoqiao continued chatting idly outside. A few other patients came for consultations, but Liu Banxia no longer needed to worry about them.
"Why is the examination taking so long?" Qiaoqiao asked after they chatted for a while longer.
"It’s better to be thorough. But it should be about done now," Liu Banxia said.
Just as he finished speaking, crying sounds came from inside. Looks like the fetus really couldn’t be saved, Liu Banxia sighed internally.
"Doctor, what’s happened? Can I go in and see?" the man with glasses, who had been waiting nearby, hurried over.
"Please wait a moment. Once the examination is finished, you can go in and stay with her for a while," Liu Banxia said.
"Sigh... It’s my fault. I should have been more attentive," the man with glasses sighed.
"Don’t get too upset. There can be many different causes. It’s important to ensure the patient receives psychological counseling and support for her recovery. This is very draining for her," Liu Banxia advised.
At this moment, Dr. Huang walked out with Liang Xiaolin and Qing Kewa. "The fetus cannot be saved," she said. "I recommend surgery, as it would be safer. However, the patient is very emotional right now, so let’s wait a bit before discussing it with her."
"You should go in and see her. Comfort her," Liu Banxia said to the man with glasses.
The man with glasses took off his spectacles, wiped his eyes, and then walked into the treatment room.
"I don’t even know how to comfort them. Even though it was still early in the pregnancy, that was a potential life," Liu Banxia remarked with a sigh.
Dr. Huang gave him a strange look, her expression turning somewhat hesitant.
"Dr. Huang, don’t worry. We will do our best to explain everything clearly to the patient. Besides, the man who just went in is her boyfriend, a family member, so he can also help comfort her," Liu Banxia said.
"Dr. Liu, come with me. There’s something I need to tell you," Dr. Huang said.
Liu Banxia nodded, surprised. He was also a bit curious about what she wanted to tell him. Could it be that Dr. Huang would also be transferred to the Emergency Department in the future?
