CHAPTER 33: WHAT REALLY HAPPENED THAT NIGHT?

Though he got worked up on how Elara acted earlier, Andrew just couldn’t get the sight of her bleeding over his head and pressed his lips into a thin line.

There was a muddle of complicated feelings in his heart, along with the emotions of what he actually wanted anymore.

He snapped out of his thoughts when he saw Beatrice calling him.

"Where are you, Drew? Producer Li is asking for you. He arranged some snacks for you. After all, you will be our prime investor," Beatrice said in a sweet voice.

Andrew looked at the phone, his heart contemplating what he should do in this case.

This meeting was also crucial for him, not because Beatrice was a friend and was acting in it, but because he knew investing in this drama was the right thing.

The story was taken from a highly famous manhwa and would definitely give them fruitful results.

Even Noah and Nate were looking for Apt talent to represent the songs for the drama, something Carla wanted to do, but even she knew she wasn’t the right voice needed.

That was one reason Carla asked him to vouch for her to Noah; he, though, appeared here to support her but had no intention of following through with her idea.

He wanted to meet Producer Li because he might not find the right time again, but one look at the blood on the floor was enough to make him take a deep breath and cancel the meeting.

"I know it was important, Beatrice. But I am sorry. I have to be somewhere else," Andrew said before he ended the call without even waiting for an answer and rushed out of the building, calling his assistant to start the car.

Carla, who saw her brother running out of the building, clenched her fists in annoyance. Her brother was seriously caring about that bitch.

She stomped her foot and turned to go to where Beatrice was on the fifth floor.

Once the elevator stopped at the floor, she was greeted by Beatrice, who had intended to take the elevator to go down and see what was happening.

"Carla, where’s your brother? I called him because the producer wanted to meet him, but he said he had to be elsewhere," Beatrice said, her enquiring eyes raking over Carla.

Carla was in a foul mood and didn’t want to talk about it.

Beatrice noticed the girl walk past her, go straight to the couch, and change her tone.

"I was trying to persuade Producer Li to have you sing the main songs. But my influence alone wouldn’t be enough. That’s why I was hoping your brother could at least show up. The producer would’ve definitely agreed if he were here," Beatrice said, pouring some tea for Carla.

Carla heard Beatrice’s words, and her silence broke immediately.

"It’s all because of that bitch Elara. She was here, and one thing led to another, and she slipped on the stairs," Carla said.

"Elara was here?" Beatrice’s smile faltered at the thought of Andrew ignoring her for his wife again.

"Could one really get that hurt from falling down a single floor? I bet she came prepared and orchestrated all the drama to catch my brother’s attention." Carla munched on the cookies angrily, and Beatrice’s expression turned even more sour.

Back at the hospital, the doctor immediately rushed her to the emergency operation room since all her stitches came undone and she needed to be treated soon.

Rather than taking her to Rowan, who treated her, Antonio pulled the car to the nearest hospital since he was afraid the delay and excess loss of blood might make things complicated.

After treating her, the doctor walked out of the operating room, and Antonio rushed to the doctor.

"Sir, how is she doing? Is she okay? Can I see her?" Antonio asked.

The doctor looked up at the concerned man, his eyes dark.

"So you are her husband who abandoned her? I told her to be careful and that she can’t afford to get hurt so soon." The doctor asked, and Antonio froze for a second.

Why would the doctor say something like that?

"N-no, sir. I am her bodyguard and was hired recently. But can you tell me what exactly happened? Why did you say that? What’s wrong with her? I know her family. Please, sir," Antonio nearly begged the doctor, thinking his boss was going through something severe.

The doctor looked at Antonio in pity before shaking his head.

"If only her husband were half as worried as she. Then she wouldn’t be like this," the doctor said before he walked away.

Antonio swallowed hard.

He didn’t know what it was all about, but he knew one thing for sure: that man, her ex-husband, hurt her beyond repair.

"Do you really want to know what exactly happened?" The nurse asked when she saw him sliding down the wall in agony because he felt like he had failed in his duty for the second time in the same week.

"Please. Tell me. I can give you money if that’s what you are after," Antonio said.

The nurse smiled before shaking her head.

"I don’t need your money. I just pity that girl lying on the bed inside. This isn’t her first time here. Actually," the nurse told him everything, and to say Antonio was surprised would be an understatement.

He froze in his place, his anger rising with each second as he thought about the excruciating pain his boss must be in, and swallowed hard.

The fact that she didn’t tell anyone about this, not even her brother...

"Thank you. I’ll forever be grateful to you." Antonio held the nurse’s hands, who looked in her mid-forties.

"No problem. You call yourself her bodyguard. I don’t know if you are doing it just for money. But please take care of her. My heart hurts for that child," the nurse said before she left.

Antonio looked at the pale lady lying on the bed inside the ICU before some nurses went inside and brought her out on a stretcher so she could be shifted to a private room.

Antonio walked behind her, stopping briefly when his phone vibrated with an incoming call.

He looked at the caller ID and exhaled sharply.

"Sir," he said.

"Where is Elara? Xylon has been trying to reach her. He said he heard her arguing with a lady. What’s going on?" George asked.

Antonio looked at the pale girl and didn’t really know what to say.
