Chapter 25: The Evil Spirit that Controls Cockroaches
CHAPTER 25: CHAPTER 25: THE EVIL SPIRIT THAT CONTROLS COCKROACHES
Chu Feng looked in the direction of the sound.
In the distant darkness, countless thumb-sized, insect-like creatures were swarming towards him like an army of marching ants.
Chu Feng squinted, and only then did he realize that the countless insects were, in fact, cockroaches.
"Fuck!"
Veins instantly bulged on Chu Feng’s forehead as a wave of nausea, originating deep within, swept over him.
Just as Chu Feng felt on the verge of vomiting, the countless cockroaches, as if they had spotted their target, vibrated the wings on their backs. In the blink of an eye, they all took flight.
"Holy shit!"
Terrified, Chu Feng turned and fled, goosebumps instantly erupting all over his body.
The terror behind him spurred Chu Feng to tap into his full potential. He practically teleported into the stairwell, frantically slammed the door shut, and then pulled a pile of clothes from his Storage Space to seal every gap. Only then did he begin to calm down slightly.
How can this damn cult have such disgusting things!
His old fears triggered, Chu Feng could only remain in the stairwell, desperately trying to devise a countermeasure.
Meanwhile, the New York police officers stationed outside the building were also under pressure.
As Boris stared at the building with a grave expression, one of his subordinate detectives suddenly ran over.
"Boss, a large group is surrounding us! What should we do?"
"Who are they? Can we identify them?"
Just as the detective was about to reply, countless gunshots suddenly rang out around them.
"Requesting backup! Requesting backup! We need help!"
Boris frowned. Just as he was about to investigate, the radio in the police car suddenly blared with a piercing call for help.
Anxious, Boris grabbed the radio and loudly demanded, "What’s happening? Tell me, what’s going on over there?"
"Chief! They’re cultists, all armed! We need backup! Someone’s injured!"
Hearing the shouts over the radio and the continuous gunfire around him, Boris had no choice but to deploy the armed officers guarding the main entrance to reinforce the surrounding positions.
"Sabio, send reinforcements quickly! We’re under attack by a large number of cultists here."
After dispatching his men, Boris immediately called the police chief at the station.
"What? Hold on, I’ll send people right away!"
Hearing the sound of gunfire, like popcorn popping, from the other end of the line, Sabio shot up from his chair in shock.
Judging by the intensity of the gunfire, there had to be at least several dozen cultists.
As calls flew out from the chief’s office at the New York Police Department, officers from all over the New York area converged on the station. The armory was thrown open and nearly emptied.
"Move out!"
At the command, countless police cars roared to life, speeding towards Boris’s location like lightning.
Meanwhile, in the building’s stairwell, Chu Feng blinked as he heard the sudden eruption of countless gunshots outside.
Looks like Boris has gotten into trouble too!
After adjusting his brand-new bee-proof suit and ensuring there were no gaps, Chu Feng picked up a flamethrower.
The flamethrower and bee-proof suit were items Chu Feng had purchased from the System Shop for a total of 10,010 US dollars.
Once ready, Chu Feng yanked the stairwell door open with his right hand.
The anticipated overwhelming swarm of cockroaches was nowhere to be seen. The hallway entrance looked much as it had when Chu Feng had first fled into it, though now the walls and floor were covered with countless tracks left by the crawling roaches.
Seems like they have retreated. That Evil Spirit commanding the roaches is quite diligent!
Gripping the flamethrower tightly, Chu Feng slowly advanced into the parking garage.
Just as he neared the spot where he had first encountered the cockroaches, they reappeared in countless numbers, just as he’d expected.
Time to warm you all up!
He aimed the flamethrower’s nozzle at the cockroaches storming towards him and gently squeezed the trigger. A tongue of fire, forty to fifty meters long, instantly shot out.
As Chu Feng swept the flames back and forth, the cockroaches had no defense against the extreme heat. They were incinerated on contact, turning to char almost instantly. After a few tens of seconds, the flamethrower’s fuel ran out.
Seeing the cockroaches that had seized the moment to charge, and the shadowy figure lurking behind them, Chu Feng’s lips curled into a mocking smile.
He immediately returned the empty flamethrower to his Storage Space. With a flip of his palm, a brand-new one appeared in his hand. Witnessing this, the advancing shadowy figure froze in place.
Bet you didn’t expect that, you filthy thing!
Chu Feng ruthlessly squeezed the trigger again, and the raging flames incinerated all the approaching cockroaches.
COUGH. COUGH. "This smoke is intense!" Chu Feng spluttered.
In the underground parking garage, the ceiling above Chu Feng was now scorched black, and thick, dark smoke swirled relentlessly.
Now that all the cockroaches were burned to a crisp, Chu Feng finally had a moment to focus on the shadowy figure nearby.
"Hey! Stop spewing those things. You’re going to die anyway, so why bother?"
The Evil Spirit ignored him, continuing to open its wide mouth and vomit cockroaches. Chu Feng’s expression instantly darkened.
What a disgusting creature!
He aimed the flamethrower at the Evil Spirit and pulled the trigger, engulfing the creature in a torrent of fire.
After several tens of seconds, the crackling sound of roasting cockroaches finally ceased. As the flames from Chu Feng’s weapon died down, an Evil Spirit covered in strange symbols appeared before him.
Looking at its body, a terrifying thought flashed through Chu Feng’s mind.
Was this Evil Spirit created by someone?
The kneeling Evil Spirit slowly lifted its head. Its once pitch-black eyes had returned to normal. It looked at Chu Feng with a pleading expression, seemingly having regained its sanity.
"Kill me! Please, Mr. Exorcist, end my suffering quickly!"
Gazing at its outstretched arm, Chu Feng felt a mix of complex emotions.
To think a living person was turned into an Evil Spirit... The suffering he must have endured is unimaginable. And the ones responsible for all this are that damned Cult.
Just as a golden glow began to emanate from Chu Feng’s hand, as he prepared to grant the creature a merciful end, a black mist materialized from nowhere. It enveloped the still-pleading figure, and in an instant, both the mist and the Evil Spirit vanished.
Snatching someone from right in front of me? That’s asking for death!
Although Chu Feng knew it was impossible for the entity to escape the Four Symbols Spirit Trapping Formation, the thought of it remaining ’alive’ for even a second longer made him deeply uneasy.
He immediately swapped the flamethrower for an AA-12 shotgun and hurried towards the center of the underground parking garage. If Boris’s information was correct, the altar should be there. And the master of that black mist would undoubtedly be there as well.
