The exorcism began in America.
Chapter 46 The Sudden Barrier
CHAPTER 46: CHAPTER 46 THE SUDDEN BARRIER
After leaving the ward, they ignored the sounds coming from other rooms. Under Chu Feng’s lead, the pair headed straight for the stairs.
BANG!
Just as Chu Feng set foot in the stairwell, a Flame Barrier suddenly appeared, blasting him back.
"Chu! Are you alright?" Taran, following behind, watched in shock as Chu Feng flew past her. She quickly ran to his side and helped him up.
"Cough, cough. It’s nothing serious!" Chu Feng, struck by the sudden force, felt a tightness in his chest, but after a few coughs, he felt considerably better.
Slowly walking to the edge of the stairwell, Chu Feng cautiously reached out. At the boundary between the corridor and the stairwell, a Flame Barrier instantly materialized, blocking his hand.
"Flames from Hell?" Seeing the flames before him, thick with the smell of sulfur, Chu Feng immediately guessed their origin.
"Chu, what do we do? It looks like we can’t get out!" Taran, beside him, sounded very anxious. She currently lacked the power to protect herself, and if they couldn’t leave the hospital quickly, she would surely become a liability to Chu Feng.
"Wait a moment, I’ll try again!" With a thought, Chu Feng activated the familiar Golden Light Spell. It enveloped his entire body, multiplying his strength several times over.
After activating his Demon-breaking Fist skill, Chu Feng punched fiercely at the Flame Barrier before him.
BOOM!
After the loud crash, ripples spread across the surface of the Flame Barrier, but it still didn’t shatter under Chu Feng’s full-force punch. Instead, Chu Feng was once again sent flying by the recoil.
Fortunately, Chu Feng was prepared this time. Under the protection of the Golden Light Spell, he wasn’t injured.
"Chu, can we get out through the window?"
Hearing Taran’s suggestion, Chu Feng, though not very hopeful, went back into the ward and reached his hand towards the window to test it.
Just as Chu Feng had expected, as his fingertips drew near, the familiar Flame Barrier reappeared, firmly blocking his hand.
"Chu, what should we do now?" After watching Chu Feng’s attempt, Taran grew visibly panicked. She had never imagined that one could enter the hospital but not leave it!
It seems they don’t want us to leave, huh! Ignoring Taran’s question, Chu Feng drew the Demon Hunting Blade from his waist.
He slashed at the ward’s window. As the blade touched the Flame Barrier, a surge of extreme cold erupted from the blade, attempting to extinguish the flames on it.
The Demon Hunting Blade didn’t disappoint. As Chu Feng channeled his Spiritual Power, the flames on the section of the Flame Barrier covering the window gradually died down, then were completely covered by frost.
"Now!" Chu Feng thrust the Demon Hunting Blade fiercely into the Flame Barrier. With a vigorous twist, the section of the barrier that had frozen into a solid block of ice shattered into countless pieces.
"This is great... What’s happening?" Before a delighted Taran could cheer, the shattered part of the Flame Barrier was instantly covered again by flames surging from the surrounding areas.
In the blink of an eye, the Flame Barrier was completely restored.
Feeling the drain on his Spiritual Power, Chu Feng shook his head. He gave up on trying again.
He took Taran back to the previous ward and once again used the Spirit Trapping Formation to seal the room. Then, Chu Feng took out a pile of food from his Storage Space, sat down on the floor, and began to eat.
"Chu, what are you doing?"
"Taran, it seems we can’t get out for now. You should also sit down and eat more. Recover your Spiritual Power as soon as possible. We have to team up for a dungeon run later!"
After hearing Chu Feng’s words, Taran naturally understood their current predicament. She picked up some food from the floor and began to eat it in small bites.
After eating and drinking her fill, Taran’s complexion became much rosier. At least she no longer looked so terribly weak and pale.
The woman didn’t have a large appetite. Before Chu Feng had finished eating, she was already tidying up the Crystal Formation she had previously laid out on the ground.
Chu Feng took out a tissue to wipe his mouth. Seeing how much importance she attached to those crystals, he suddenly became curious.
"Do those things have any special uses?"
"Are you talking about these? Crystals are important tools for my Exorcisms! If it weren’t for them this time, I probably would have become food for those Evil Spirits by now! Here, take one and look." Hearing Chu Feng’s question, Taran shrugged and handed him a crystal.
Chu Feng reached out and took the sparkling, translucent crystal. He examined it closely in his hand.
Outwardly, it didn’t look much different from the crystals Chu Feng had bought from the system store before. However, the one Taran handed him had a slightly hazy halo.
"Isn’t it perfect? I channeled most of my Spiritual Power into them today!"
"Yes, it’s indeed a good item," Chu Feng replied thoughtfully, looking at the crystal in his palm.
"Chu, I’ve finished packing. What should we do next?" After Taran put all the crystals into a small, close-fitting pouch, she turned around, looking at Chu Feng with an inquisitive gaze.
"Taran, do you know how to shoot a gun?"
"Of course! But what does that have to do with what we’re doing next?" Taran was somewhat puzzled by Chu Feng’s sudden question.
"Good that you know how! I’ll lend you something nice for now. Just remember to return it to me after we get out of the hospital!" As he spoke, a shotgun engraved with Mystic Runes appeared in Chu Feng’s hands in the blink of an eye. "Catch!"
Taran fumbled but managed to catch the long gun Chu Feng tossed to her.
"An AA-12 shotgun? What are these patterns on it?"
"A modified AA-12! I customized it myself. It’s a true Exorcism artifact, but it can only use special ammunition." As he spoke, Chu Feng tossed Taran a thirty-two-round drum magazine, also engraved with Runes.
"Is this the one you’ve been using?"
"That’s right! This is it." Chu Feng picked up his own AA-12 and showed it to Taran.
After hearing this, Taran’s eyes instantly lit up. The same one Chu uses? Does that mean I can also take down an Evil Spirit in just a few shots? If I could use this against the Bizarre in the future, then...
Chu Feng, standing nearby, watched Taran’s fascinated gaze fixed on the "export version" AA-12. He smiled faintly to himself. It’s about time the Exorcism Agency expanded!
A little while later, Chu Feng, a slight smile on his face, interrupted Taran’s reverie. "Alright, Taran, we should get going now!"
"Uh... Oh, okay!" Snapping back to reality, Taran skillfully loaded the drum magazine into the shotgun and followed Chu Feng out of the ward.
A considerable amount of time had passed. Some of the rooms on the second floor, where Chu Feng was, had fallen silent, the earlier commotion long gone. Stepping out of the ward, Chu Feng sighed softly. It seems the people inside are more likely dead than alive.
But I can’t just ignore the threats inside. In such a dangerous environment, any oversight could lead to significant trouble.
