The exorcism began in America.
Chapter 49 Bizarre Red Light
CHAPTER 49: CHAPTER 49 BIZARRE RED LIGHT
Seeing that so much time had passed and the man was still slumped in the corner like a pile of mud, Chu Feng finally couldn’t stand it anymore. After all, they were fellow countrymen. If the man was still salvageable, he should be saved. But if he wasn’t? Then no one could be blamed.
As Chu Feng approached the man, before he could even speak, a pungent smell assaulted his nostrils.
Ugh, what is that smell! Is this guy seriously overheated or something?
He quickly turned for a breath of fresh air. Then, covering his nose and mouth, Chu Feng kicked the man’s fairly clean calf.
"Huang Chuanhao, right? Wake up! Wake up!"
Chu Feng called out persistently, kicking the man’s originally clean pant legs until they looked like they’d been dragged through a coal pile. After a bit of trembling, the man’s dull gaze finally began to show some signs of life.
"Mom~ There’s a ghost!"
Unexpectedly, the first thing Huang Chuanhao did upon waking from his deep sleep was to cry out for his mother.
The man, slightly overweight and 1.78 meters tall, was a sturdy fellow. Yet, within moments, he had cried until his eyes were red and swollen, his voice choked with sobs. He curled up in the corner, his body trembling rhythmically with each sob.
"Um... does anyone here have experience comforting a grown man?"
Chu Feng, encountering such a situation for the first time, could only look to the others behind him for help.
Facing Chu Feng’s plea, Amita, the Indian, shook his feathered headdress so vigorously it seemed to leave an afterimage.
"I can’t do this! Though I’m married, I don’t have experience comforting children! Oh, right! Dimo has kids! You can ask him."
Dimo, the spiritual medium, waved his hands frantically at the suggestion. He shot a fierce glare at the Indian beside him, cursing inwardly. I certainly don’t have kids *this* big!
"Chu, we’re men too, but... comforting other men! *Cough, cough*... I think women are better suited for this!"
After listening to Dimo, Chu Feng nodded thoughtfully. He felt there was some truth to those words.
He then turned his gaze to Lin Qiu and Taran.
"Taran, can you do it?"
Taran, busy fiddling with her shotgun, didn’t even lift her head when she heard Chu Feng speak.
"Definitely not me! I’m afraid I’d end up shooting him."
Shaking his head, Chu Feng turned to Lin Qiu by the window. He saw she was cross-legged, focused on restoring her Spiritual Power, and paying no attention to the situation.
"Alright then! Lin Qiu, you... Never mind, I’ll do it myself!"
Turning back, Chu Feng looked at the man who had been crying for some time now. His brows furrowed tightly, and he grew increasingly irritable with every sob he heard.
"Stop crying! Do you hear me?"
Damn it! Are all scammers this fragile nowadays?
Chu Feng’s meager patience had completely run out. With a flip of his right hand, an M17 appeared in his palm in the blink of an eye.
BANG!
A gunshot rang out, and the still-smoking barrel of the M17 was pressed against the other man’s head.
"I said, stop crying! Didn’t you hear me?"
Accompanied by Chu Feng’s grim tone, the trembling body under the gun barrel immediately froze.
The others, startled by the sudden gunshot, looked at Huang Chuanhao, who had finally quieted down in the corner. Their eyes lit up, as if they had discovered an excellent method for dealing with a ’problem child’!
"You’re fully awake now, right? Later, we’ll figure out a way to leave this hospital together. You will follow us obediently. Understand?"
The two angry questions, coupled with the gun barrel occasionally prodding the back of his head, made the stiff-bodied Huang Chuanhao only dare to nod mechanically.
Putting the M17 back into his Storage Space, Chu Feng, still annoyed, cursed under his breath. So much for trying to be a damn hero! What a waste of a bullet.
Only when the gun barrel completely disappeared from the back of his head did Huang Chuanhao dare to cautiously turn around. Ignoring his soaked pants, he fixed his gaze on Chu Feng, who was walking towards the ward door, resentment practically seething in his eyes.
"Hmm?"
Sensing something, Chu Feng frowned and turned to look behind him.
Such astonishing intuition!
Seeing that Chu Feng had seemingly sensed his gaze and turned around, Huang Chuanhao quickly concealed the resentment in his eyes and lowered his large head.
Heh! Interesting!
Although Chu Feng hadn’t seen the resentment in Huang Chuanhao’s eyes, his excellent vision allowed him to notice something amiss about this fake Exorcist. Despite having curled up in the corner crying for so long, there wasn’t a single trace of tears on his sleeves or the front of his clothes. These discoveries made Chu Feng heighten his vigilance towards this actor and deceiver.
"Chu, what’s wrong?"
The other four in the ward hadn’t noticed what just happened, but Lin Qiu and Taran, thanks to a woman’s innate sixth sense, still sensed something was amiss.
"Nothing. It’s just time for us to leave!"
Shaking his head slightly, Chu Feng gave a meaningful glance to the two women before walking over to Amita and Dimo. The two men were sitting cross-legged, eyes closed tightly, meditating to rapidly recover their Spiritual Power.
"Alright, gentlemen! It’s time for us to get moving!"
Startled by Chu Feng’s voice, both men frowned.
"Chu, we’ve only recovered most of our Spiritual Power," one of them said. "Shouldn’t we wait a bit longer?"
"We don’t have much time. Look outside."
Hearing Chu Feng’s reminder, they all looked curiously towards the hospital corridor.
"Where is that glow coming from?"
With just one look towards the corridor, they were all drawn to a faint red glow.
"Let’s go check it out!"
The sudden, bizarre phenomenon in the hospital put everyone on high alert again. They quickly stood up, went to the ward door, and cautiously peered outside.
The second-floor corridor, which had been gradually dimming as time passed, was now filled with countless points of an enchanting red light that had suddenly appeared. This light draped over all surfaces like sheer gauze, creating a beautiful, hazy scene. In this captivating, dreamlike atmosphere, their gazes began to grow vacant. They lifted their feet, about to step into the bizarre red glow.
"Get back here!"
Just as they were about to lose themselves, a pair of iron-like arms blocked their path. With a slight tremor of those arms, a formidable force pushed the four of them back into the ward.
"What... what was I doing just now?"
Once out of the red light, they quickly came to their senses. The memory of their puppet-like state moments before sent chills down their spines.
Still standing at the ward door, Chu Feng leaned out to assess the situation beyond, then stated his conclusion: "The red light outside likely contains a bizarre power that can affect a person’s consciousness. As long as one’s spiritual power is strong enough, they can remain unaffected."
