"Continue!"
After Chu Feng’s right foot moved away, the man heaved a sigh of relief.
"Since the plan at Central Hospital failed, orders were passed down for everyone to go into hiding. The stronghold I know of is probably already deserted!"
Seeing that he couldn’t extract more information about the Holy Advent Society from the man, Chu Feng shifted his target.
"Well, never mind. Tell me about that Bizarre Strength inside you instead."
"This Strength?" The man looked hesitant.
"What, you don’t want to talk?"
Feeling the threat in Chu Feng’s tone, panic filled the man’s eyes.
"No, no! I’ll talk!"
"I was originally just an ordinary makeup artist yearning for the power of an Exorcist. Back then, I frequently discussed with others online about how to awaken Spiritual Power.
Suddenly one day, someone sent me an email asking if I longed for supernormal Strength, saying they could grant me this power. Although skeptical, I still believed them and replied to the email. The next day, I was taken to a Holy Advent Society stronghold. There, after participating in a strange ritual, I obtained this power that completely surpassed that of an ordinary person."
"Your skill in disguise is impressive!"
Hearing Chu Feng’s abrupt compliment, the man was taken aback.
"That’s all thanks to that Bizarre Strength and my previous experience as a makeup artist. Right, Mr. Exorcist, I’ve told you everything I know. Can you let me go now?"
Looking at the man’s hopeful eyes, Chu Feng’s lips curled into a smile.
"Did I ever promise to let you go?"
"What?"
After racking his brain, the man’s face, which had just regained some color, instantly turned deathly pale again. He realized he indeed hadn’t discussed any terms for his release with Chu Feng.
"Besides, what makes you think you can survive?"
Chu Feng stood up and flung open the adjacent bathroom door.
Inside the bathroom, the walls and floor were covered with crimson bloodstains. A young man’s mutilated corpse lay quietly in a pool of blood. In the sink by the wall, an old man’s severed head was starkly displayed.
Knowing that Chu Feng had discovered the atrocity he had committed, the man gave up all hope of survival. Unable to move, he could only lie there listlessly, his lips moving slightly as if trying to say something.
"Chu Feng, are you done?"
Boris and Sara stood in the doorway, dragging the suitcase the man had abandoned in the hallway. They looked at the man on the ground as if he were already dead.
"Yes! I’ll leave him to you."
Chu Feng, having vented his anger, naturally didn’t want to dirty his hands further. However, before leaving, Chu Feng kicked the man on the ground twice more, breaking his other two legs, then leisurely walked out of the room.
Boris and Sara took over the scene. They exchanged glances before both reaching for their service pistols, demonstrating a classic American quick-draw.
"BANG! BANG! BANG..."
After a volley of shots that sounded like popping beans, the man, riddled with dozens of bullets, finally departed this world.
As Chu Feng descended the stairs, he got into Boris’s police car amid the increasingly clear sound of sirens in the distance.
A short while later, Boris and Sara finished their business and returned to the car.
"So, you’re not staying to direct the scene?"
Boris greeted a policeman who had just exited a nearby patrol car, then shook his head and chuckled. "This is no longer something for someone at my level to worry about."
Wow, Boris actually managed to show off like that!
With that particular score settled, Chu Feng didn’t hold it against Boris and instead joked, "It seems our future Chief Boris is in quite a good mood now!"
"Don’t say that! I’ll be more than satisfied to become a mid-level leader in the New York Police Department in this lifetime. Anything higher isn’t something I should even think about!"
Boris was well aware of how he’d obtained his police captain rank. Since such an opportunity was unlikely to present itself again, he didn’t harbor any expectations for further advancement.
Chu Feng didn’t comment on Boris’s answer. He turned his gaze out the car window, watching the police officers bustling about.
"Boris, we should head back! You haven’t submitted my conditions yet, have you?"
"Okay, Sara, drive!"
The police car started and slowly pulled away from the old residential building. Then Boris, from the passenger seat, spoke up, "Don’t worry, Chu Feng! I think all your conditions will be accepted, except for the final thirty million US dollars."
"I hope so."
Chu Feng, who had closed his eyes again to rest, replied faintly and then said no more.
Boris, who hadn’t rested in a long time, also started to feel drowsy and closed his eyes in the passenger seat.
「After an unknown amount of time had passed,」
the three of them finally returned to the New York Police Department.
"Boris, I won’t be going upstairs! Remember to submit my conditions as soon as possible. I’ll be waiting for your good news!"
"No problem, I’ll call you once there’s an outcome!"
After waving goodbye to Boris, Chu Feng got back into his Jeep and returned home.
「Night fell.」
After dinner, Chu Feng lay in bed, wanting to sleep, but he felt as if he had forgotten something. He checked his system panel but didn’t see any new system notifications.
What did I forget?
He took out his phone and scrolled through it. It wasn’t until he saw James’s number that Chu Feng remembered he hadn’t yet told him about the Exorcism Agency’s expansion. The agency was expanding and needed staff. James had been doing a good job as a labor intermediary, so Chu Feng naturally didn’t want to miss out on him.
"Hey, Chu Feng, my dear Boss, what made you think of calling me all of a sudden?"
James, on the other end of the phone, sounded quite surprised by Chu Feng’s call; after all, it had been a long time since he had seen his generous boss.
"My Exorcism Agency is going official and expanding its scale. Do you want to become a formal employee of the Exorcism Agency?"
"That’s great! Dear Boss, I’ve been waiting for this day!"
"If you’re okay with it, just wait for my call. The core team of the Exorcism Agency will need to meet and get acquainted."
"Okay, Boss, I’ll be waiting for your summons!"
After hanging up with James, Chu Feng thought for a moment. He then called John, the real estate agent, to tell him the same news, partly to reassure him.
After the call, Chu Feng, lying in bed, suddenly found he couldn’t sleep. Sitting up, he took a notebook and pen from his Storage Space and began to write and sketch.
Since he was free anyway, it was a good time to plan the agency’s departments, salaries, and so on.
