What kind of visual experience is it when countless evil spirits appear behind your friend's little sister?
Sitting on the bench, Yotsuya Miko was feeling it firsthand.
She remained perfectly still…
Having weathered many spiritual storms, Yotsuya Miko may not have the ability to fight evil spirits, but she could at least roughly judge their strength.
The ones that suddenly appeared in front of her were likely the "low-level evil spirits" Hikigaya Hachiman had mentioned — mindless and unintelligent.
As long as she ignored them…
"Croak!"
A sound resembling a frog's cry suddenly came from among the evil spirits.
Komachi, who couldn't normally see evil spirits, shouldn't have been within their attack range.
But at that moment, the spirits all began lunging at her.
"Ko—"
Yotsuya Miko was stunned at first by the spirits' odd behavior and opened her mouth to warn her.
But just as her lips parted slightly, she saw Komachi suddenly raise her left hand.
The red bracelet on her wrist emitted a blinding crimson light.
In the next moment, Komachi had completed her transformation, appearing before Yotsuya clad in a suit of armor.
"So this is what Onii-chan usually sees, huh?"
Due to the bracelet, Komachi temporarily gained the ability to see evil spirits while transformed. She looked on with interest as the spirits frantically slammed against the barrier surrounding her.
"Ugh, they're all so ugly…"
After observing for a bit, Komachi noticed all of them were misshapen monstrosities — not a single one looked even remotely normal.
She concentrated for a moment, and the ribbon in her hair turned into a red beam, which flew into her hand and transformed into a giant sword.
"Lock the target, and then swing like this…"
With a mighty sweep of the red greatsword toward the cluster of spirits, a massive arc of red energy shot forth from the blade, slicing through the swarm.
In an instant, the once-overwhelming group of spirits was reduced to just a few stragglers.
Seeing this, Yotsuya Miko was completely stunned.
Not only was Hikigaya Hachiman incredibly strong — even his little sister was this powerful?
"Are you okay, Miko-nee?"
While Miko was still in a daze, Komachi, utilizing the high mobility of her armored form, had already hunted down the remaining spirits and returned to her side.
"Y-Yeah…"
Looking at Komachi, clad in her dazzling red armor, Miko twitched the corners of her mouth and managed a strained smile.
"By the way, why did so many evil spirits suddenly appear here?"
Hearing that Miko was okay, Komachi nodded and stood up, scanning the area.
Although she had taken out a large number of spirits earlier, new ones were still emerging, revealing their forms in the surroundings.
Moreover, the spirits weren't only targeting the two girls — some were drawn by the bracelet's energy pulses, but many more had infiltrated nearby homes.
A white light suddenly swept through their bodies.
And in the next instant, it shot off into the sky.
As the light vanished, so too did the countless low-level evil spirits that had been looming overhead.
"What just happened?"
Komachi blinked in confusion, unable to comprehend what that light was.
Just seconds ago, the sky had been swarming with spirits — how had they all vanished in an instant?
"I don't know…"
Yotsuya Miko also shook her head in confusion.
Without the bracelet, she hadn't even seen the light clearly — just felt a warm sensation pass through her body, after which the world had suddenly become peaceful.
"Looks like we'll have to wait until Onii-chan gets back and ask him."
Komachi deactivated her transformation, returning to her normal self.
She hopped back onto the bench and began swinging her legs.
"That question… even I don't know the answer."
As Komachi finished her sentence, Hikigaya Hachiman came walking over from the distance.
After defeating the Head Ghost, he had been eliminating the scattered evil spirits as he rushed over to them — and then had witnessed that powerful surge of spiritual energy.
"Onii-chan~!"
Seeing him, Komachi immediately jumped off the bench and ran over excitedly.
She circled around him to confirm he wasn't injured, then proudly reported how she had transformed and defeated a bunch of evil spirits.
"You were pretty amazing."
Other than the initial transformation when he gave her the bracelet, this was Komachi's first real usage of it.
To produce such results on her first outing — she was clearly gifted.
After all, when Hachiman first used the bracelet, he had just charged in barehanded…
"Though I'm not sure who released that light earlier, tonight's situation has at least come to an end."
Summing up the events of the evening, Hachiman turned to Yotsuya Miko and the middle-aged ghost man beside her.
After some time apart, the man's form was beginning to fade again.
The three of them — plus the ghost — returned to Yotsuya Miko's home.
Miko, flustered, mumbled something about tidying her room and then quickly ran upstairs.
"Thank you so much for everything tonight,"
said the middle-aged ghost man, floating in front of the Hikigaya siblings and expressing his deep gratitude.
"It's no problem, Uncle. I'm friends with Yotsuya-san. Helping her is only natural."
"But still, you really did save her again, didn't you?"
Hachiman nodded silently.
"Actually… I have a favor to ask."
The middle-aged man looked a little embarrassed.
"You see, Miko often encounters evil spirits, and she has no means of protecting herself. So I was wondering if you could…"
The request was born from watching Komachi wield the red bracelet.
He was sure Komachi was just a normal girl — and yet, she had wiped out a horde of spirits thanks to that black-tech-like device.
It was obvious the bracelet had come from Hachiman.
He wasn't asking for something as powerful as Komachi's bracelet for Miko — he'd be content with anything that could protect her from evil spirits.
"Actually, I'm already working on that."
As he spoke, Hachiman retrieved a half-finished string of prayer beads from his system space.
Even for someone like Nigurudou Yuria, whom he had just recently met, he had already crafted a protective artifact.
There was no way he would forget someone like Yotsuya Miko, with her natural spiritual sensitivity.
It was just that the evil spirits she might attract were stronger, so the artifact for her was taking longer to create.
Who knew she'd end up in trouble again so soon…
