CHAPTER 457: CHAPTER 437: KISSING HER LIPS_3
As Nan Yu walked past Huo Juanyan, he suddenly grabbed her arm.
"Nan Yu, besides the Longevity Flower, there’s also the matter of your master."
Nan Yu immediately turned around upon hearing this. "Has Gu Chuxin confessed everything?"
Huo Juanyan nodded lightly. "She confessed it all."
He took out his phone from his hand and handed it to Nan Yu.
"Here’s the recording of her confessing the full truth."
Nan Yu hurriedly took it and started playing the recording.
From the phone, Gu Chuxin’s voice came through.
"Yes, I killed Gu Gongming."
"I’m clearly Gu Gongming’s daughter, yet he wouldn’t give the Ghost Doctor title to me. He insisted on giving it to my damned junior sister instead."
"He always said I didn’t have the talent my junior sister did, that he wouldn’t expect me to inherit the Ghost Doctor title, and that he would pass everything down to her instead."
"If it were you, could you accept something that was meant to be yours being handed over to that damned woman?"
"So I disagreed. My junior sister was still young at the time, and I figured Gu Gongming wouldn’t have made any arrangements for her yet. So I used slow-acting poison, letting it build up little by little until it became lethal, and then watched him die right in front of me."
"The moment Gu Gongming died, I felt an immense satisfaction!"
"..."
Nan Yu couldn’t listen to the rest. Her eyes welled up with tears, her pupils filled with sorrow.
"If I had known from the start that Gu Chuxin would go to such lengths for the Ghost Doctor title, I would have abandoned the title, just so she wouldn’t harm my master."
Huo Juanyan heard the sobs in Nan Yu’s voice, and a trace of pity surfaced in his gaze.
He held her hand tightly. "Nan Yu, this isn’t your fault. This is Gu Chuxin’s fault. The truth is, Gu Gongming had already paved a path for her, arranging for her to apprentice under Dean Li at the Traditional Chinese Hospital. She didn’t have to hide her identity—she could have been a skilled doctor in her own name."
"It was Gu Chuxin’s insatiable greed for the Ghost Doctor title that led her to murder her own father."
"Nan Yu, this is not your fault. Don’t blame yourself."
Nan Yu’s eyes turned red, tears streaming down her cheeks.
She looked at Huo Juanyan, biting her lip. "Where is Gu Chuxin now?"
Huo Juanyan’s gaze darkened, his grip on her hand tightening.
"She’s dead."
Nan Yu froze, staring at Huo Juanyan in disbelief. "She’s dead? How?"
Huo Juanyan locked eyes with her directly. "After confessing everything, I had her sent to the police station. She didn’t want to go to prison and jumped off a highway bridge to her death."
Nan Yu’s body trembled. "What about her assistant?"
Huo Juanyan replied coldly, "After witnessing Gu Chuxin’s death, he jumped from the vehicle as well and died."
After speaking, he took the phone back and played a video for Nan Yu.
Nan Yu watched Gu Chuxin and Ye Yu’s figures clearly in the video, one after the other, jumping out of the car to their deaths.
She closed her eyes, her expression steeped in anguish.
Seeing this, Huo Juanyan pulled her back toward him. "Nan Yu, perhaps this is Gu Gongming’s punishment for Gu Chuxin, forcing her to go down there and personally apologize to him."
Nan Yu slowly calmed down upon hearing this.
Her red eyes met Huo Juanyan’s. Her lips trembled, but she said nothing.
Huo Juanyan gazed at her, as if he could sense the pain within her heart. He gently applied force, pulling her into his embrace.
Holding her close, he whispered, "Nan Yu, this is the result of her wrongdoing. You don’t need to feel guilt, and you don’t need to suffer for her."
Nan Yu leaned against his chest, resting her head on Huo Juanyan’s shoulder, softly sobbing.
It wasn’t clear how much time had passed before she spoke. "I’m not suffering because of her; I’m grieving for my master."
"My master had only Gu Chuxin as his daughter, but in the end, his daughter murdered him with her own hands, and now she’s killed herself out of fear of facing justice."
"If my master’s spirit knew, he would be devastated."
Huo Juanyan gently patted Nan Yu’s back, comforting her. "Nan Yu, your master may have only had Gu Chuxin as a daughter, but he also had you, his disciple. To him, you were practically his family, his child."
"He taught you all his medical skills, passed down the title of Ghost Doctor to you because he wanted you to carry on his legacy and save lives."
"If he’s watching from above and sees how many people you’ve saved, he would be proud of you."
Nan Yu slowly lifted her tearful gaze, her eyes shimmering. "Really?"
Huo Juanyan held her tightly, letting her sit on his lap. His cool fingertips gently brushed away her warm tears.
He wiped the corners of her eyes, softly, over and over.
"Really."
Nan Yu gripped the fabric of Huo Juanyan’s shirt, her lips trembling slightly. "Huo Juanyan, thank you."
Looking at her flushed lips, Huo Juanyan’s fingers slid from the corner of her eyes downward to her lips, lightly stroking them.
Then, he lowered his head and touched her ear with his fingers.
He kissed her lips.
