CHAPTER 418: YOU MUST BE THE REASON SHE LEFT
Leo finally got to understand Alice’s reaction and why she was acting that way. So, it turned out like this, huh?
He had his own suspicion but he believed finding it out for herself was the best.
And the evidence has suddenly presented itself.
"Alice, what did you just say?" Miss Stella asked and rushed in. "Are you mistaking something?" She asked but one look at the expression on Alice’s face told her that she was being serious.
Would she joke about such a thing? Her mother had died years ago, so she might’ve mistaken it but that certainty on her face made her doubt that this was a mistake.
Then...
"I need answers, Miss Stella." Alice said and showed her the locket. "Is this your sister?" She asked and Miss Stella looked at the locket.
She knew the person inside the locket because she was the one who put the picture there and handed the locket to Philip who missed his mother every passing day.
She told him,
"If you always wear this then your mother will be nearest to your heart." She said. "Until the day you meet again, always keep this on you."
And that was why Philip never took it off. He sometimes looked at it when it felt like the image of his mother’s face was starting to fade in his memory.
And now, Alice was saying that the person inside that locket was her mother?
"Is she... The person you said I reminded you of?" Alice added and Miss Stella’s eyes widened.
If she thought of it like that, then it only made sense why Alice looked so much like her sister. Why she reminded her of her sister so much.
"Yes, Alice." Miss Stella said. "That is my sister and Philip’s mother."
Alice turned the locket to look at the picture.
"And she’s also my mother. Can you... Explain this to me?" She asked, raising her fearsome gaze. "I’m confused and upset. I’m angry right now but until I hear what this is all about, I don’t think I have the right to express my anger."
Philip was confused. What was this all about?
How... How could his mother be...?
He got angry, his eyebrows knitting together.
If she was really his mother’s daughter then...
"You must be the reason she left." Philip suddenly said, rage enveloping his pupils. "Mom left one day without a word and never came back. You...you must be the reason she left. You’re the reason I never saw my mother again."
"Shut up!" Alice said, sending chills down his spine with her cold gaze. "I said it just now, didn’t I? I don’t think I have the right to get angry until I understand what happened. And that goes for you too. So, stop acting so childish and keep your mouth shut till I get my answers."
Philip felt vexed but he couldn’t talk down at her. He couldn’t...
He gritted his teeth.
"Miss Stella, I’d like to see Gramps." She said. "I’m sure he’ll have the answers I want."
Miss Stella went silent. He was currently busy but this case was urgent. They needed to see him right away.
"Philip, let’s go." She said to Philip who had resumed getting treatment from Damian. "Hm? What happened to you?"
She looked around. The floor was broken as well. Did they have a fight? Was that how Alice got the locket?
"Sorry," Alice said to the others. "I can’t hang out with you guys."
"Sure, it’s no problem." Diane said. "Your business is more important."
The drama they just watched was so unreal that they still couldn’t get it out of their mind. To think Alice would really be related to the chairman of the association.
Was that why she was so strong?
’That just makes things so much more painful.’ Diane thought.
For someone who had suffered for seven years to discover their grandfather was the strongest person on Earth all along, someone who could’ve protected her and prevented her from going through that hell... The reality of it would rip Alice’s heart.
’I hope she’s okay.’ Diane thought.
She turned to the rest after watching Alice leave and asked,
"So, who wants to watch a movie?"
Damian kept watching the door as if Alice would suddenly come back for something but he realized he was just thinking unrealistically and sighed.
’It’s okay. She’s still my friend.’ He thought. ’That’s enough for me.’
Alice and Leo got into the car, and Philip did too. Leo sat in between them, just in case, folding his arms and dropping his head as if in sleep. But he was simply observing.
Philip recovered completely when Miss Stella took over the treatment from Damian. But he was still confused.
’What’s going on?’ he wondered and glanced at Alice who was silently and coldly looking out the window.
She looked like she was going out to war.
’I can’t believe that stupidly strong girl is my sister.’ He thought. No, he couldn’t believe it.
He refused to believe it. He might’ve blamed her just then for taking his mother but it was out of a fit. He still didn’t believe that she was his sister.
Maybe it was a coincidence and something was in-between. He would have to hear from his grandfather. He was the only one who knew where his mother ran off to those years ago.
Miss Stella glanced back through the rearview mirror.
It was surprising but why did she not feel as surprised as she should be?
Was it because, somewhere in her heart, she had confirmed that Alice was her relative?
She looked and reminded her so much of her sister with each passing day that it became hard not to see her as such.
However, the confirmation was shocking.
’I hope she’s okay. And...’ she glanced towards Philip who was equally looking out the window. ’How is he doing? He just found out his mother might’ve had another child after leaving him, how is he taking this news?’
To Philip, his mother left because of his grandfather and because his grandfather never went to bring her back. He felt it was true, and he resented his grandfather every day from the point he could understand clearly.
But of course, he was still a child, and there were some things that he wouldn’t be able to understand even if it was explained to him because of how young he was.
What could he say to his young grandson who had lost his mother? Nothing. He was too pained to listen, anyway.
So, his grandfather never bothered to explain and took his hatred.
