The Fate Of The World Is In My Hands, But All I Want To Do Is Eat!
Chapter 422: It’s because I’ve found what I really want
CHAPTER 422: IT’S BECAUSE I’VE FOUND WHAT I REALLY WANT
"Father," Summer bowed her head slightly. "I’m going out. I may never return so please, don’t chase after me and take care of Philip for me. That... Is my wish."
The request was so sudden that it caught Adolf off guard, but even then, how would he agree to such a request?
He didn’t understand why she made it. It was such a selfish demand. She wanted to leave her child. Why?
Why go so far?
And she was leaving the company she had poured in her blood and sweat. She was giving up on everything. Just why?
At that time, of course, he had no idea what she was planning and as much as he wanted to stop her and decline her request, he couldn’t. He already made the promise.
He couldn’t even stop her because he had given his word. He had promised her.
This made him feel very devastated. Just why was she doing this?
Still, even after promising her, he could not let her go just like that.
He could think of scenarios where this was a result of being threatened. Someone wanted her out of the picture, that was it.
But what was this sharp and determined look in her eyes? It was completely different from someone who was being threatened.
It was as if she wanted this of her own will. She wanted to throw everything away without anyone telling her to.
"Summer," he called, dropping his head on his hand and massaging his forehead. If she wasn’t going to tell him anything more then how was he going to understand her situation?
She was so stiff-necked at times like this.
"Why are you doing this?" He asked but she smiled and said,
"It’s because I’ve found what I really want." She simply said and Adolf saw it. That glint of satisfaction in her eyes.
Just as she said, she had found something she really wanted, and that was why the light in her eyes shone more than ever.
"So please, don’t keep me away from what I want, Father."
She found something she wanted and was willing to throw everything out just for this cause. Something that was worth throwing out everything else.
It was truly selfish but he respected her words and kept his promise.
But because he was worried about his dear daughter, he decided to investigate. See what she had been up to, as well as what she planned to do.
And then he discovered there was a man in her life.
"He was a man that was shrouded in mystery but he was someone who made your mother laugh." Adolf said, squeezing his palms tight as he felt disappointed in himself. "He gave Summer back her smile. It was a smile that had completely faded with the burden she took up as she grew older."
Alice was silent. And so was Philip.
Philip gulped, his eyes unsteady and his plans sweaty.
Was his grandfather trying to tell him that his mother left him for a man?
He glanced at Alice. It was probably her father. But why wasn’t she saying anything?
Alice stared into the distance, dazed. The only memory she had of her father was of him smiling warmly at her but even then, she could not recall his face.
What was the color of his eyes? How were his eyebrows shaped and that long black hair tied to one corner... Was that how he usually carried his hair?
She placed her hand on her face, biting her lips.
To think she had this history. So, her mother left her son and family just to be with her father, was that it?
Couldn’t she be with her father and also be with her grandfather? If she had the chance to remarry, no one would judge her.
Or was it impossible with him? Why?
If he loved her mother, he should be willing to live life with her in her own world but why make her abandon her own world to come into his? What was so special about him?
She clenched her fists and bit her bottom lip, feeling resentful.
She was feeling like this because, in the end, her mother had to die while her father was nowhere to be seen. What happened to him? Did he die?
Well, it didn’t matter because if she was going to blame someone, it was going to be him.
She had no way of knowing her mother’s thoughts at the time. If she was the one who insisted on throwing her life away just to be with her father or if she was simply following his conditions to be with him.
’A man shrouded in mystery.’ Leo thought, gazing at Alice. ’It’s the complete opposite of Alice’s character, so I can assume she took after her mother more.’
He didn’t know if that man was a demon or not because, after all, there was no way to tell. Since Philip had no trace of demonic energy in his origin then it was safe to say that their mother was not the cause.
So, it was definitely Alice’s father.
’But... What was a demon doing on Earth several years before the apocalypse?’ This was the question he couldn’t get an answer to no matter how much he thought about it.
He was supposed to be a god but it seemed like staying on Earth was reducing his thinking capability and also reducing his divine energy, reducing him to a normal man.
If he ran out of divine energy then he would be forced out of the human world and back into the stars.
That was why he had been so careful when trying to intervene in this world’s matters. He could do well by supplying energy to Alice but that should be it.
If he wanted to stay longer, he would have to interfere less.
"Then, what about the day of the apocalypse?" Alice asked. "On that day, my mom clearly told me that she wanted to take me to meet someone special. That day... Did you make plans with my mother?"
