CHAPTER 428: THIS CANNOT GO ON

*There are more dangerous gates opening up at an alarming rate.* Leo said to Alice in her mind.

He was currently resting but he could still communicate with her.

’Is it a sign?’ Alice asked as she bolted through the clouds, heading for her next destination.

*Possibly.* Leo said. *A sign that the end is near.*

’Stop talking so ominously.’ she complained, her eyebrows knitting.

*How else should I phrase it? Anyway, let’s just follow my plan and make sure there are fewer worries in the world before the second calamity strikes.*

Leo had made a plan, since Alice claimed to want to take on a lot more monsters and was heading to England.

Since they had no idea when the second calamity would arrive, they decided to take on the big problems that the world was currently facing.

And while Alice was not very confident that she would be able to take on all the big problems before they were surprised, she sought to try her best.

If the world had fewer red gates to worry about and didn’t have most awakened fighting in barren lands when the second calamity struck, then they would be able to reduce the level of casualties.

The second calamity was a giant statue, like an angel descending into the world from the sky and all of the earth could see it from where they were.

It was only one huge boss monster but that wasn’t the only concern. It was the red gates of the SSS-class that would open up during its descent.

They would open up in the most populated places where the damage would impact the world greatly.

And as such, if the awakened were far from those locations during that time, then it would have a great negative impact on the world’s population and resources.

In order to prevent that, they at least had to have the awakened positioned in their home towns, guilds, and bases to allow them to face off the monsters. They could prevent casualties like that.

"So, let’s head for our next destination."

The country with the leading population and mass innovative resources that helps their world strive... China.

They were going to clear off all the barren lands, the red zones, and most likely the red gates that would pose as a hindrance later.

Usually, Alice was supposed to take permission to clear those areas but she had a feeling China might give her a hard time because of their previous episode and make it about her instead of the safety of the citizens.

Surely, some would say she was doing all this, going out of her way to destroy powerful monsters, because she was trying to become popular and make the world depend on her and owe her. Something like that.

Some were not very welcoming to her level of strength and her stamina so they didn’t want to acknowledge the power of this girl that came out of nowhere.

In that case, Alice decided to use her powers first. Act first, think later. She would destroy the monsters, and then, when it was time to face the music, she would simply dance and let it fix itself.

She had a grandfather now who would back her up so she could do whatever she wanted and have him take care of the rest.

After all, he was the acknowledged, most powerful man on Earth, haha.

"This is outrageous!!" Su Feng yelled as he slammed his fist on his desk.

In front of him was the monitor that displayed a live footage of Alice clearing the red zones that even their elotes had a problem clearing.

She was sweeping the place like it was child’s play, displaying her perfect mastery of her axe, and several other weapons.

It was such a disgrace to them and he was sure she was using this to rub it on his face, telling him how much more competent she was than their country’s elite awakeneds.

"This cannot go on." Su Feng declared, his face twisted in bitterness. He gnashed his teeth. "We have to put that little girl in her place."

"And how do you suggest we do that?" The voice from the door asked and he raised his head to find the leaders of China’s awakened agency.

He immediately bowed his head in respect.

"Sir, you’re here." He said, and the man, one who had previously appeared in the association meeting and was humiliated by Alice, who knocked him out with a finger flick.

He, who was known as, Iron Body Zhang, a man with an impenetrable body and the strongest defense. That is, until he met Alice.

Zhang held a grudge. One that ran so deep that he wanted to get back at Alice so he trained. He trained some more. And he trained even more till he was satisfied with his results.

He was no longer the same Iron Body Zhang he once was and had grown stronger.

But then, when he came out from his isolated training three months later, he heard shocking news about the little girl he was training hard to defeat.

He watched a video of how she destroyed so many monsters and wondered, ’Can I do the same?’

If he couldn’t even replicate her actions and kill so many high-level monsters without a single rest, then he was definitely no match for her.

If even the monsters that the elite squad takes a while to take down can be taken down by her in seconds, then just how were they going to take her down?

She wasn’t human. And she wasn’t a monster either.

She was completely otherworldly with powers that no one could fathom.

"Su Feng," Zhang called, standing in front of the monitor and folding his arms as he watched her axe and sword play. "If we fought, who do you think would win?" He asked.

"Of course, that would be y--"

"Think carefully." Zhang interrupted him. "For someone who was able to easily break through my absolute defense, do you think it would me to win in a fight against them?"

Su Feng looked at the video and then at the leader. It was true. Even he couldn’t deny it. Alice was stronger, but...

How could they just admit defeat like this? She was someone who completely humiliated them.

"It looks like she’s using this to show how much more powerful she is compared to us," Zhang said, "But she did not bring anyone. And she did not call for attention. She... Is simply fighting and fighting and... She doesn’t mind anyone. So, she isn’t trying to humiliate us once more and has some other goal in mind."

"How can you be so sure? She’s such a cunning little girl." Su Feng said and Zhang glanced back at him. "She was always getting on our country’s back."

Zhang went silent.

While training, he had set aside his worldly feelings that held him back a lot. His pride.

And after setting aside that pride, his eyes had been opened completely and he saw that she never started a fight and she was simply fighting back.

They had been the ones to start a childish fight with someone they called childish. How ironic.

"Regardless," he began. "...instead of making such a person our enemy, why don’t we become allies instead?" He suggested and Su Feng’s eyes widened. "It’s the fate of the world we must look after and not our own personal interests. Do you understand?"

Su Feng felt Zhang had changed a lot. His way of talking was far calmer than he used to and the energy radiating around him. It was so strong and yet so peaceful.

He was someone who had reached a certain enlightenment and a realm that was beyond human.

In their ancient texts, they would call this state he had reached that of an immortal. But then, if his was an immortal that girl on the screen was already at the level of a god.
