CHAPTER 68: NIGHT OF BLOOD

The acolytes looked at each other before they began to laugh; their laughter turned demonic with each moment. They stopped and looked at White and Anna with cold eyes and demonic grins.

"HAHA! That’s funny!" one of the Refined-Seekers stepped forward and dashed towards Anna, and another followed and attacked White.

White and Anna blocked the attacks with their dagger as they moved in a practised synergy, their movements sharp yet nimble. They moved with intent to reap the lives of the acolytes standing before them.

The acolytes were no slouches either; they pushed forward with increased intensity and continued to cut at their flesh.

Blood began to pool on the floor as the duo’s injuries worsened, but none of them were lethal, and they were too focused on survival and killing the acolytes that they didn’t even care about their own bodies.

An acolyte’s eyes glowed red, and his sword began to glow. He slashed forward, and his sword began to chip at White’s rune-enhanced dagger. White’s expression turned dark as he felt the sting from the sharpness of the blade.

Another acolyte attacked Anna as his eyes glowed red. His speed increased with each attack. Anna’s palm began to burn from the force, but she didn’t loosen her grip. The acolyte pushed forward, and Anna, seeing that, formed a solemn expression.

The other acolytes occasionally changed position with them and continued to attack.

Things were turning worse with each second. White already had a dagger lodged a few inches under his lower rib. Both of them breathed heavily and looked at the acolytes in front of them. They only had a few cuts on their skin, and that was all.

Anna looked at the students who were about to escape her net with a grim look on her face.

She thought about using her trait, but... it may lead her to do things she didn’t want to... things she may regret, so she held herself back.

Anna turned her head and looked at One who was fighting the two guards of Melanira. Right at that moment, One looked back at her. His eyes glowed grey as he whispered to her.

Anna’s eyes widened, and she nudged White with her elbow as she whispered.

"Cover your ears."

Anna and White covered their ears with their arms, and right then, One’s eyes glowed grey and so did his throat.

[Echo Break]

He yelled, and the shockwave generated from it was enough to knock out the students and stun the midnighters.

Melanira, who had an amused look on her face till now, turned furious as she looked at One, who was snapping the necks of the two guards.

"You bastard!" she growled at him as her eyes glowed red and a layer of red began to cover her whip. She moved forward and attacked One. Her whip coiled around his arm, and she pulled back, ripping apart his skin.

One didn’t groan or scream; he took the attack and moved towards her, his steps full of power as he no longer felt cloudy.

Melanira frowned. She retreated and began to launch a volley of attacks using her Whip. One dodged, blocked, and parried them as he continued to move towards her.

Melanira was stronger when she had the runic formation supporting her, which allowed her to control all of the students and fulfil the condition for the blessing. She no longer had either of them.

One pressed forward and reached her. Melanira turned and looked at the other acolytes.

Right after One’s shockwave, Anna and White moved and claimed the lives of the four acolytes, two Tyro-Seekers and two Refined-Seekers.

The other four had grim looks on their faces. After all, they knew Melanira no longer held the advantage, and now it was only moments before they were defeated.

Anna guessed their thoughts and moved forward to stab one of the Refined-Seekers in the neck. The acolyte slapped her hand away as he dodged, but Anna’s other hand, which he couldn’t see, moved and pierced his neck.

"Augh?!"

Blood poured out of his neck as his eyes turned lifeless.

White moved as well and pounced on the two Tyro-Seekers, his punches heavy, and his speed was way above the realm of normal humans. They exchanged multiple attacks until White was finally about to grab them by their necks.

The last acolyte, who was an Apex-Seeker, moved as his eye glowed red and his physical strength and speed doubled. Anna, who was looking at all of this, jumped between him and White and stopped him from stopping White.

The acolyte punched Anna, and Anna used her daggers as a shield to block the attack. She managed to block.

"Guhk!" Blood seeped out of her lips as she was sent flying into the wall. Her grip loosened, the daggers fell to the ground, but a bloodied grin stretched across her face as White snapped the necks of the two Tyro-Seekers.

The last acolyte’s face turned grim, but he still moved towards White. White took his stance as the acolyte came running at him like a bull; he caught his hands with his own. Both of them stared into each other’s eyes as they pushed each other. White’s face turned grim as he got moved back an inch.

Anna stood up and picked up her daggers, and jumped at the last acolyte.

The acolyte sensed her intentions and let go of White as he turned towards Anna and launched a punch towards her. Anna dodged by ducking down and slid her daggers into his sides. She cut him, but it wasn’t deep enough to be lethal.

Anna had already completed what she had hoped for. White grabbed the acolyte from behind in a choke hold and tightened his arms around his neck with all of his strength. The acolyte continued to strike White’s side with his elbow, but with each strike, he turned slower and slower. Finally, his vision began to blur.

The acolyte, however, still held on as his eyes glowed red, and seeing that, Anna dashed towards him and stabbed him a few times with her daggers. The acolyte finally stopped as his eyes turned lifeless.

Anna collapsed on the floor, her daggers slipping out of her hands. She breathed heavily because of the exhaustion, and White stood beside her.

White offered his hand to her, and Anna gladly grabbed it with a nod.

Anna walked towards One, who held Melanira by her neck, and blood dripped out of her lips.

Melanira looked at Anna with a crazed smile as she spoke.

"Heh, you survived after all..." she paused.

"Or... did you?"

Melanira finished as her eyes glowed red, and One hurriedly snapped her neck, but her smile remained as her lifeless eyes stared at Anna.

However, it was already too late as a scream tore through the hall.
