CHAPTER 82: PARENT’S CALL

Michael had a frown while he rode the windrazor eagle as it flew over the southern end of the island.

"Why did she tell me to come here?" He mumbled as he looked around, and there were no star beasts there.

Suddenly, the windrazor eagle let out a cry like it was telling Michael to focus on the sea.

Michael looked into the sharp eyes of the windrazor eagle and looked down at the sea.

The seawater started to rise, and a humongous claw came out of it, trying to grab hold of the windrazor eagle, but the windrazor wasn’t called the master of the sky for nothing. It easily dodged the claw and let a furious shriek as it glared at the beast who had dared to attack it.

"An aquasteel crab..." Michael said as he looked at the humongous crab with an aquamarine shell, its red eyes were like those of a predator, its claws sharp enough power to cut steel like paper.

His expressions turned somber. After all, an Aquasteel crab was an Ignited rank star beast. Same rank as him.

The real issue, however, wasn’t its rank but what the rank implied. Star beasts were weaker than awakends because they relied on instincts rather than intelligence, and with each major rank, the star beasts gained more and more intelligence, thus making them harder to face.

"Hah..." Michael let out a sigh as his grey eyes glowed white. He bent the light to his command, moulding it into a bow and arrow.

He stared into the red eyes of the aquasteel crab as he let go of the string. The arrow shot forward towards the beast, but the crab simply clawed at it to block the attack.

The arrow stuck its shell and sank a little, but the attack wasn’t enough to completely bypass the crab’s defences.

Seeing that the attack didn’t do much, Michael frowned and pulled the string, ready to send another arrow towards it.

The crab let out a furious cry as it used its claw to grab hold of the nearest boulders and threw them at Michael.

Michael didn’t react; instead, the windrazor eagle did as it easily evaded all of the boulders.

Michael let go of the string, and the arrow sank into the joints of the crab’s claw and arm. Green blood drops fell from it, but the wound was neither lethal nor deep enough.

"This will take some time..." he muttered as he got ready to shoot another arrow.

But the crab had had enough of it, and suddenly the shell started to tremble as cracks appeared all over it, and the crab commanded them to attack the wretch who had dared to attack him.

The shards of shell flew towards Michael at a horrifying speed, but Michael wasn’t concerned about them. Why would he? He had the master of the sky with him. Who dares hurt him in the sky?

The shards zipped past near them as the windrazor eagle evaded all of them with ease. The windrazor eagle was an Ignited rank star beast, but it wasn’t suited for combat; however, no other star beast could match its flight capability.

"Anzu, let’s show this crab its place."

Anzu–The windrazor eagle—let out a cry which tore through the skies in reply.

Michael shot arrows at the crab, and it no longer had its hard shell, so the arrows dug easily. The crab was soon near its death, but its eyes were the same as before and seeing that, Michael frowned.

’Something’s wrong... It was too easy?’

Yes, Michael knew that he was too strong, but killing this crab seemed too easy... it was like... Michael’s eyes widened as he turned towards the island, and there he saw, the shards were never meant to hit him... they were to break the runic formation that deployed a barrier providing defence against mental attacks of the star beast.

After all, there were all kinds of star beasts, and the Night Seer had made sure that no star beasts could take control of the minds of the islanders.

"Anzu, get back!" Michael shouted, but alas, it was too late.

A tentacle with pulsing green lines shot out from the crab’s body. Anzu tried to evade it, but it was too late. The tentacle grabbed hold of it, and the seawater rose as high as the windrazor eagle.

Two deep blue eyes full of malice stared at them. Anzu and Michael shivered from just looking at the eyes of the star beast.

"A Malamare?..." Michael shuddered after seeing the monster before him. It was an enormous, shadowy black monster. Its appearance was similar to a squid, but it had only two tentacles with pulsing green lines all over its body. It was so big that its shadow blanketed half of the island. But, it wasn’t its monstrous body that made him shudder, no... it was its ability. The malamare could control others by putting them in a hex.

"C.o..m.e to m..e m..y chi..dren.s" the star beast spoke in a deep guttural voice that was heard all over the island.

Neo was covered in dark green blood as he slaughtered the merkins without any regard for his own safety.

Everyone looked with disbelief in their eyes as Neo moved through the hordes of merkins and slaughtered them all without an effort.

But they would be wrong to think so; they were nowhere close to how fatigued Neo actually was. His battle sense was always monstrous, like he was born for battle itself.

Neo’s arms were aching as he moved his sword, the wounds he had got from the merkins were making him dizzy, but he didn’t stop, he continued moving as if he wanted to prove something... as if he was showing others that he was no weaker than them.

Suddenly, a voice rang throughout the island.

"C.o..m.e to m..e m..y chi..dren.s"

Neo’s eyes turned dull for a moment, but he shook his head as he mumbled with a frown.

"What was that voice?"

He heard steps behind him, and there he saw star beasts and islanders moving towards the southern end of the island.

"What’s going on?..."

Anieal stood atop a boulder as she looked at star beasts and islanders making their way towards the island’s southern end.

"A Pseudo Adept-ranked star beast, huh..."

Anna turned towards Noctara as she mumbled.

"I hope I am right..."

Anna knew that something was about to happen as she couldn’t see the fate threads of the future at the moment.

She could see the fate of the upcoming or past week of those weaker than her, but that turned to only glimpses if someone had equal strength to hers. Then what about those stronger than her? She could not gaze at them at all.

(Basically, she can’t see those who are above her rank, even in the visions of others.)

But the threads of end... none of them showed her anything this time, which she thought was because there was no fate leading them to death, and now she hoped that she was right.
