CHAPTER 88: EASY KILLS!
Chapter 87
"Attack!" Jake shouted as he eagerly sprinted toward the hundred goblins just a few meters away.
With a loud shriek, the goblins immediately charged, their crude war cries echoing through the clearing as dozens of arrows shot through the air, all aimed directly at Jake with deadly speed.
With a loud swoosh, Lana spread her wings and fired a barrage of razor-sharp feathers. The feathers whistled through the air, intercepting the arrows mid-flight and knocking them to the ground. Jake grinned wildly as he leapt high into the sky, his excitement boiling over.
"This will be fucking easy!" the hunter roared as he crashed into the midst of the goblins, his landing shaking the ground. A thick cloud of dust and debris burst upward, obscuring the battlefield and cloaking him from sight.
Sigh! Jasmine let out in exasperation as she dashed forward, meeting a group of goblins who had cleverly swiveled around Jake and were now racing toward the others.
These goblins carried crude swords in their clawed hands, and within seconds, Jasmine clashed with them head-on. Steel rang out as the blades collided in the center of the chaos.
A goblin swung its jagged weapon at her neck, but she quickly raised her sword. With a sharp clang, she parried the strike without flinching.
She moved to counter when a second goblin suddenly appeared behind her, thrusting forward with a vicious stab aimed at her abdomen.
Reacting instantly, Jasmine kicked the goblin in front of her with all her strength, sending the snarling creature skidding backward across the dirt. She then leapt into the air with a burst of force, narrowly avoiding the stab aimed at her stomach.
Spinning midair, she brought her blade down in a deadly arc, slicing through the goblin’s skull. Its head split cleanly into two, though she felt the faint resistance of bone before her sword finally prevailed.
When she landed softly with a thud, cracks had deepened across her sword’s surface. She quickly steadied herself only to see a dozen more goblins circling around her, their yellow eyes glowing and fangs bared as they snarled, ready to strike.
Meanwhile, high above the battlefield, Lana was under constant fire. Dozens upon dozens of arrows screamed toward her, darkening the sky.
She coiled her wings tightly around her body and spun clockwise, gathering speed as if she were a cyclone. Then, with a sudden burst, she unfurled her wings. A violent gust of wind erupted outward, blasting the arrows away in all directions.
"Fuck you ugly bastards!" she roared, her voice filled with rage and thrill. With another mighty flap, dozens of her feathers shot outward like blades, each one sharp enough to slice through steel.
The goblins below spotted the attack and scrambled, their survival instincts kicking in. They darted frantically aside, just barely avoiding the deadly barrage as the feathers slammed into the ground, slicing deep into the dirt and leaving jagged gashes in their wake. Dust exploded upward from the impact, filling the air with grit.
But it was already too late. Lana swooped down from above, her eyes gleaming with fury. She slammed into the midst of the goblins and, without hesitation, swung her wings in wide arcs. Heads rolled as the razor edges cut through the creatures with effortless force.
A goblin archer managed to fire a desperate shot at close range, but Lana twisted her body to the side. The arrow whizzed past harmlessly. She retaliated instantly, slashing upward with her wing in a rising strike that cleaved the archer cleanly in two.
She shot back into the sky, wings pumping, and after a brief ascent, she folded herself into a nosedive. The air shrieked around her as she plummeted, halting in the air just before impact. With a single powerful flap, she unleashed another storm of feathers that pierced directly into the heads of the goblins below.
Their screams were cut short as they collapsed lifelessly, blood pooling beneath their twitching bodies.
The moment Lana landed gracefully back on the battlefield, the goblins’ corpses slid to the ground with loud thuds. She smiled widely, her chest rising and falling with exhilaration, proud of the carnage she had unleashed.
’As a B-ranked hybrid hunter, there’s no way mere pesky advanced-tier beasts like you would give me trouble. Now where the hell is your boss?’ she thought while scanning the battlefield. Her sharp eyes darted around, but the boss was nowhere to be seen.
"Probably in there," she mumbled, staring at the massive cave dominating the background. Her wings immediately spread open with a sharp snap, and in the next second, she rocketed toward the entrance at blinding speed.
"Don’t move from this spot," Max ordered with a glare at Jim before unsheathing his sword. His gaze shifted instantly toward the wave of goblins charging his way, their snarls echoing across the field.
"Roger that, sir!" Jim said with a cocky salute, his grin stretching wide across his face.
"Tch. Crazy," Max muttered beneath his breath. He pressed down with his feet, the ground beneath him cracking and denting under the sheer force.
Then, with a gunshot-like bang, he blasted forward, his figure vanishing into the distance as he went head-on toward the horde.
In just a single heartbeat, Max was in front of them. The beasts did not hesitate either. Their crude, rusted swords swung toward him from every direction, their shrieks carrying with them a promise of death.
"Now you see me," Max muttered with a smirk as he swung his sword. His blade intercepted the barrage of attacks, blocking the strikes of nearly twelve goblins at once. The sheer impact forced him back several feet, his boots skidding across the dirt.
He grit his teeth but kept smiling, his eyes flashing with excitement.
"Now you don’t," he whispered. A deafening bang rang out, and in that instant, Max vanished.
The goblins froze, stunned by his sudden disappearance. Their heads whipped left and right, searching frantically, but there was nothing in sight.
Jim, who stood on the sidelines, watched with his heart pounding in his chest. His eyes were glued to Max’s every move, though keeping up was almost impossible.
"Woah! The boss got moves," Jim exclaimed, his jaw dropping. His fists clenched in excitement as he tried desperately to track Max’s figure.
"I’m not on the level of mere rats anymore," Max’s voice thundered from above. The goblins tilted their heads upward, just in time to catch a glimpse of his descending shadow. That fleeting image was the last thing they ever saw.
Because like a blur, Max shot down from the sky with immense speed. He tore through their ranks in a whirlwind of steel, darting and weaving among them.
His blade flashed with deadly precision, and within moments, black blood sprayed across the battlefield. Limbs and heads flew through the air in grisly arcs before crashing to the ground.
Max skidded to a halt a few paces away, his breathing steady and his posture calm. With a sharp flick of his wrist, he casually swung his sword downward, sending a spray of black blood splattering against the dirt. The blade gleamed clean once again.
A heartbeat later, the goblins’ bodies all gave way at once, collapsing to the ground with a unified, echoing thud. The silence that followed was chilling, broken only by Jim’s high-pitched outburst.
"Woah! That was awesome!" Jim squealed, his excitement bursting out like a little schoolgirl who had just seen her favorite idol. His eyes sparkled with pure admiration as he stared at Max.
