CHAPTER 55: SHOULD I TAKE OFF MY SHIRT, TOO?

The sudden, unexpected acceleration had Liam’s jaw dropping to the floor, but the wind jarred it back close.

His legs couldn’t keep up with her speed and he was forced to skip quickly just to stay upright and avoid falling over.

He was really startled by how fast she was moving - without fully transforming and his eyes were glued to the side of her face.

She must have a special wolf. There was no other way to explain all this, or she must have trained harder than anyone else in this field. But still, is it possible for someone to be able to run this fast, no matter how hard you might have trained in the past, without fully transforming?

Behind them, Zeke’s foot had also changed into wolf form and was shooting through the air so fast it almost disappeared. He was catching up - no doubt - but it would already be too late.

Theo was already overtaking the group of second year, her eyes firmly glued to the goal.

The moment they were out of the herd of second years who didn’t look very happy about this development, she decreased her speed and her claws retracted.

Behind them, she heard a snarl. She didn’t need to turn to see who it was.

Just then, Liam grabbed her hand and pulled her to the sidelines, taking her out of the field.

"Why did you do that?" She questioned, breathless and upset.

"What the hell was that?!" He fired back too, curiosity and exhaustion written all over his face, "How did you do that?"

She shrugged, "I let my wolf have some fun, too,"

"Your wolf? So, who’s been running all this time?"

She looked away.

"You’re seriously unbelievable," He said and fell back on his butt, gasping for air.

She dropped next to him, "So why did you pull me to the side? The Whistle wasn’t blown,"

"It wasn’t," He said, "But most of the second years looked ready to tear off our heads, and my eyes were spinning so hard,"

"Why are the second years upset?"

Liam laughed - the kind that said they might be in trouble, "Because we outran them, in front of the unlookers and the teachers. As proud wolves, they’re gonna wanna get back at us,"

"That’s childish," She groaned next to him, "And when you think about it, they were the ones overtaking us, first,"

"Their egos won’t let this just go like that. Wait and see, they’re gonna demand something from this,"

"They are out of their minds,"

After catching their breath, they walked over to get some water from the tap. Liam filled their bottles and handed hers.

The cool, crisp water ran down her throat as she gulped it down. She didn’t even realise how thirsty she was till she felt that immediate relief and a sense of pleasant satisfaction, only for her to jerk a bit when someone’s shoulders smashed into hers from behind.

The bottle fell to the ground with a thud and rolled a bit, water leaking from the open mouth.

"What was that for?" Liam barked before she could speak.

"He deserved that," Roman replied with a frown. Dax and Clarke stood by his sides with the same cold expressions, "Picking a fight with the second years like that?"

"Oh," Liam stepped forward threateningly, "So, you’re scared of them? The class bully is scared?"

"I’m not scared!" Roman huffed.

"We are not scared," Clarke added with an arrogant look.

"Then why does it bother you?" Liam questioned.

"It doesn’t bother us," Dax replied and turned back to Theo, "He’s just a troublemaker, that’s all,"

"And you’re the saints, right?" Liam retorted, then laughed hysterically, "You’re all just jealous you can’t run half as fast as him and you were trampled by the big guys,"

"No," Roman fired back, "We just know when to back down. We’ve only been in school for three weeks and we know not to mess with the second years,"

"Yeah, because you can’t bully them like you do to the weaker first years,"

Roman laughed back, "We don’t expect you to understand. You’ve got the protection of your family, the second years won’t lay a hand on you,"

"You can punch others, but you can’t take a punch," Theo spoke this time, stepping forward to meet them, "You know what? I’m glad I did what I did. I can’t wait to see the second years bashing your heads in,"

"You little runt!" Roman’s hand shot out and grabbed the front of her shirt.

Liam’s eyes flared angrily, and his fist collided with Roman’s face. Before the other two could move, he had already elbowed their faces, too.

They all winced, clutching their injured faces and glaring daggers at both of them as they backed away.

Theo looked at Liam, very impressed.

"I didn’t know you could move that fast," She said.

"I can, when they touch what’s mine," He turned to her, his eyes intense.

"What’s yours?" She chuckled lightly, "You’re funny, Liam,"

It looked like he wanted to say something, but he snapped his mouth shut.

"Let’s go and watch the rest of the run," He suggested.

All the first years had dropped out of the run, and the second years were scattered everywhere in the field. Hezekiah was at the front, Aurelius second and Celeste third with no one looking like they were gonna overtake the other. She tried to find Eric, but he didn’t seem to be present.

They were all shirtless, and her eyes drifted subconsciously across the field to where Zeke was running. His muscles flexed with every move, body rolling with the kind of sexy seat that had sinful thoughts gnawing at her chest. He had tied his long hair, but some stubborn strands stuck to his face like glue.

She wanted to be those strands.

His eyes were focused, destroying every obstacle in his path.

"Look at that," Liam said next to her, "The obstacles are changing. It’s harder than before,"

Theo saw it too. Now that it was only the second-year students, the system had upgraded the obstacle courses for them.

And yet, Zeke remained unfazed, still moving with that lethal grace.

Beads of sweat ran down his chest, trailing down a path of thin hair from his abdomen and disappearing into his pants. Her tongue peeked out between her lips and slowly swiped along her skin.

She couldn’t help herself. She didn’t even know she was doing that.

Just then, she felt a cold presence behind her.

She and Liam went stiff, and the tongue quickly slipped back into her mouth.

Sylas stood directly behind her, and she felt him lean in. The closure had her going breathless again, and when he spoke, the warmth from his breath made her skin come alive, "Should I take off my shirt too?"
