CHAPTER 167: VIOLET WASN’T THE SAME

***Author’s Note: I’m so sorry about the delayed updates. After I started feeling better, family came to town, so I was busy with them. The story is about to get a lot darker so hang in and get ready ***

When Violet woke up, she was still in the forest and on the ground, the sun was peaking on the horizon.

Violet wrapped her hand around the woman’s mouth. "If you scream, I’ll snap your thin little neck."

"You’re back, good, now I can finally rest." His eyes narrowed and he looked sharply at her.

Violet was confused about the vampire’s reaction, but wasn’t the least bit concerned.

A new type of rage and disgust had settled in her heart. She felt this heavy darkness clouding her mind. An echo of something unknown.

"So weak and pathetic. Amazing you creatures have lived so long." She found herself saying.

She’s never felt this way about humans, but looking at the pitiful dead thing on the ground, she couldn’t help it.

"I’m feel better than ever." She said with a twisted smile. It made Ash feel uneasy.

Violet felt different, but she felt powerful and unstoppable, ready to conquer the world.

Standing, she dusted herself off and stormed back to camp.

She recalled her encounter with the dark entity. He really did give her his power. Her body felt the same, yet somehow different, like it wasn’t just hers anymore. Something was making a home in her hollowed soul.

The witches would leave tomorrow and return to their coven.

The creature opened its mouth but instead of words an ear-piercing shriek ripped from its throat.

Except, as she got in and turned the car, the body was now standing and starring at her.

It could smell the witches holding the shield.

It’s eyes darted all around, drool leaked from its mouth. It’s body twitched.

Ripping open her curtains, she found Ash sitting in a corner in a soft red velvet chair, a candle illuminating the room, giving it a calming and dim atmosphere.

"What are you?" She asked it.

But there a darkness had settled in, he could see it. Something, that wasn’t Violet, was staring back at him. And it filled his body with ice.

Ash knew nothing would be the same, and felt an ominous feeling settle over him.

He pulled back and looked deeply into her eyes, searching for something, he didn’t know what.

Violet got out of the car and walked toward the creature with caution.

"Of course." Violet let Ash lead her to the bed, and together they laid down.

She felt different when she woke up.

She drove back to the camp and brought it with her.

She looked at the human woman with a new level of disgust.

She rose and walked back to the car leaving the body.

"You don’t smell like Violet at all. Who are you." Ash’s growl was deep and threatening. Violet went from smelling good, to smelling rancid and sour. The air in the room became dense and oppressive.

"Are you okay, you seem different." Ash asked.

She wouldn’t disclose the change in course, not just yet.

Ash was still asleep when she slipped out of bed. Hungry. She felt starved in a way she’s never felt.

The woman shuddered, tears streaming down her face. She whimpered, her words muffled but Violet hand.

So she did.

Violet was taken back by the creature.

His body recognized her, but his soul, it sensed something inside Violet, something that wasn’t there before. Something evil and sinister.

One of the vampires that was on patrol saw Violet approaching, her blood turned to ice. She screamed in fear and took off running.

Driving into the city, she spotted a woman sitting at bus stop. Violet past her and pulled over. She moved with incredible speed and grabbed the woman.

She rushed to one of the cars and got in.

She recognized the thing Violet had brought home with her.

Her fight was fading fast though. She was weakening as Violet drained her. Soon Violet had drained her dry.

She moved with speed and grace across the room and claimed Ash’s mouth. He was surprised by her sudden action.

It was in this moment Violet realized, she didn’t just want to save her daughter, she wanted to conquer the shifter, the humans, the world. She wasn’t just ready to do so. She would.

Her skin was crackling with power.

A bone chilling cold had settled inside her, one she couldn’t shake.

Violet slept like death that day. Ash was restless, tossing and turning all night. The woman sleeping next to him, felt like Violet, but didn’t.

Violet turned and glared sharply at him, shadows responding to her shift her words slithered into his mind, and it felt toxic and foreign. "I am your queen and your wife."

Violet had no idea what she had created.

Something told Violet to bite the woman. A new instinct, it seemed.

"If you say so." Ash pulled her close and kissed her forehead, "I’m tired, it’s been a long shitty night, and I just want to lay with my beautiful wife in our warm bed. Is that too much to ask?"

She was hungry for food, but for energy.

But her kiss was familiar, her touch the same.

Eyes black with glowing red pupils. Her veins had blackened; they could be seen through her skin. It had fangs almost as long as her new ones.

The room had dropped a few degrees when she had entered the tent.

Her fangs grew, longer than they were before. And she sunk her teeth into the woman’s neck. But instead of blood, Violet drained the life force from the woman. Her body was shriveling up and turning grey, she screamed into Violet’s hand, the pain was unbearable. Thrashing in Violet grasp, desperate to break free.

"Come." She ordered. And it fell into line behind her and followed her back to the car.

It stood there panting and staring.

When the sun finally set and the moon began to rise, Violet was instantly wide awake.

But what she brought back was one of The Turned.
