Chapter 490: Chapter 490 – The Matter of Thousand Dragonoir’s [ Part 4 ]
“Saved Peter Dragonoir’s life, huh?” Abigail softly said and her gaze slowly turned towards Peter in an inquisitive way.
Suddenly getting aimed by it, Peter couldn’t deny it… especially not to the Queen.
This new information was something that the Dragonoir’s were hearing for the first time. Their cold gazes instantly turned towards Peter.
Peter stammered with a sweaty look, “Ye- Ye- Yes… there was something like that.”
Abigail only smirked slightly and didn’t peak into it.
“So he did a good thing and then did something that not only covered the debt but went beyond. It’s the first time I’ve seen something like this. Good work, Lord Henry.” Abigail’s sarcastic words made no one suspicious.
To the noble families, a bit sarcasm and arrogance from the noble family was better than a sword to your neck.
“Hehe…” I smile hearing her, ‘Seems like she’s intent on balancing out all her anger today.’
Abigail looked at Margaret and sized her up a moment.
‘This is the girl then… she looks somewhat intimidating yet striking in her own style.’
‘She’s young but quite bold… Her physical strength must be great to hold up those breasts of hers.’ Abigail used a spell that let her check through Margaret’s physique in an instant, ‘Her body has exceptional physical strength and attachment to mana, their babies could wind up to be interesting.’
“Anything else you might like to add, Lady Margaret?”
“Nothing except that, without Henry back at that fight, we… I would have lost a lot more than what has been. I know it is unfair what happened to the Dragonoir’s but we must also acknowledge great sacrifices for the future of this kingdom.” With that done, Margaret stepped back.
Abigail’s face remained expressionless throughout her words, but inside she felt satisfied.
‘Hm… she actually cares for him. Alright, I’ll let her have his babies for now and… won’t kill her anytime soon.’
“Anybody else want to empty their mind?”
Abigail looked around before her head stopped towards a particular blonde head. Her face structure instantly morphing between surprise and stimulation.
“Lady Veronica… I suppose you want to say something, yes?”
Veronica Nobliesse stepped forward. Her whole aura felt calm and gentle but her words held untold strength, “Yes, I do.”
“Please do.” Abigail had an unusual smile as she urged forward.
“I am standing here right on, wanting to speak on behalf Lord Henry Van Tax.” Veronica turned to me.
Not only was I shocked, but a lot of people too. They knew that I had connections with the underworld and felt surprised at seeing someone as pure and righteous as Veronica would stand up for me.
There was a cause for such shock. Veronica wasn’t someone who would normally vouch for just anyone, she always kept her cards close, helped out those who needed it and didn’t place much step in political matters. Which was why she is very favored among the party and the commoners.
Seeing my shocked look, Veronica smiled, “I may not have known Lord Henry for long and can’t say much about him personally… my heart tends to believe that he is a good person.’
‘Heart huh? Finally accepting that horny bitch inside of you then?’ Abigail thought but showed nothing outside.
“In my opinion, on all times we’ve met, I’ve only ever seen Lord Henry bringing his hands to help others. I do not know about his other ventures but I believe in his heart.” Veronica continued, “From the moment I arrived at that battlefield to help out with injuries, I saw Lord Henry only caring the injured.”
“So even though his actions have caused heavy disaster upon someone else, I hope that the kingdom would look at his heart and see the real intent behind his action to protect everyone… not only the destruction it caused.”
I give a thankful smile at her as Veronica gave a fluttering blink.
“Hmm… Lady Veronica, your words are courteous and touch our heart. Rest assured we will take them to mind when bearing our judgement.”
Veronica nodded to that and stepped back with a calm expression, but inside she was scared.
Veronica knew very well, her and the queen’s relationship isn’t as amiable as the talks they just had. In reality, her speaking out for Henry might very well be the action that puts him to the guillotine.
But she had to something here. She couldn’t believe that Henry would do something like this intentionally, she sad personally saw his expression back then… he looked so sad.
She closed her eyes, put both hands together and prayed for Henry’s safety.
“Okay, anybody else?” Abigail went and thought of quickly taking care of the matter before a problem sprouts itself.
But she was a step late.
Abigail held her gaze perfectly as she saw Marika Dragonoir take a step up.
‘This one is the big problem.’ She clicked her tongue.
Abigail didn’t know how to satisfy her. Marika had everything she could possibly want and more, Abigail knew personally how headstrong Marika gets when she’s focused on something.
She also couldn’t discard her words as she was her greatest supporter.
“Your Majesty.”
“Hm?”
“May I ask Lord Henry Van Tax a question?”
Abigail raised a brow but nodded in the end.
Marika stepped forward and looks at me as I look at her.
It’s been sometime since I’ve seen her and I wouldn’t say it feels great to see her now that we are on opposite sides.
“Lord Henry” She spoke with a cold voice, much colder than I ever heard before, “I believe you will answer me truthfully as you have before.”
That was a subtle touch. She really wants me to tell the truth.
“Of Course.” I nod seriously.
“Did you ever have or had any bad intentions towards the Dragonoir Family?”
I shook my head, “Never”
“Did you approach us with any specific thought in mind?”
She’s really asking that.
“Of course not!” My tone was a bit sharper than it should have been.
My sudden reaction made no change, “Did you really used that punch, unknown to its effects or knew that it could cause such devastating result?”
“No…” I sigh, “I did not. That was the first time that I had gone full on. I didn’t think it would bring such an astronomical consequence.”
Marika didn’t ask anymore and just kept glancing at me. I didn’t shy away from her and we continued our staring contest before she finally said, “Your Majesty, may I present a solution to this matter?”
“Hm?…” Abigail raised a curious brow, wanting to understand what changed her mind, “This matter is related to your family so yes you can give a solution… but it is still I who will process and see if it’s acceptable or not.”
“Of course, My Queen.” Marika said as her volume went up, intending for all to hear, “I suggest a solution where two conditions must be met for the absolving of Henry Van Tax’s crime.”
“First, he must relinquish his noble title and earn it in the ancient way as our ancestors have through battle achievement.”
“And second… that he accepts the challenge of Trial by Combat from my family and win!”
