The Grand Duke's Son Is A Heretic
Chapter 396 396: 396
Just when everything seemed to be going well, a deep rumble spread across the ground. The air shook. From behind the fog-covered mountains, huge titanic forms of demons started to appear. Their footsteps made the land tremble.
Kael and Martina turned to look at each other. Both of their faces turned serious.
In the next moment, a strong burst of wind blew around them.
SWISH!
They shot forward together, leaving trails of dust and energy behind.
On the left wing, Riley stared at the demon army moving closer. His face darkened. He turned back and shouted, "Muse, take over!"
Without another word, he rushed ahead to join Kael.
At the front of the Leviathan squad, a tall demon with dark armor and long horns stepped out. His name was Arly. He gritted his teeth and roared, "Remember! Crush every single one of them into pieces! Don't show any mercy!"
"YESS!" the demons howled, their voices echoing across the field. They charged forward like a black storm.
But before they could reach the human line, a streak of light fell from the sky and hit the ground in front of them.
BANG!
A shockwave blew through the valley. The soil tore apart, flying into the air before falling back in waves of dust.
When the smoke cleared, two figures stood there.
It was Kael and Martina.
They looked calm, but the pressure around them made the air heavy.
Arly stopped for a moment and stared. "So, you're the two hotshots everyone's been talking about."
Kael smirked. "Heh. It seems our reputation reached your filthy ears. That feels nice."
Behind him, Sol and Riley landed, taking their positions. Kael glanced at Sol. There was a flicker of worry in his eyes.
Sol caught the look and smiled faintly. "I'll be fine. I've practiced what you taught me."
Kael nodded silently and turned back toward the enemies.
Martina took a step forward. Her voice was calm but heavy. "Your army already lost the battle. Do you still want to throw away your lives?"
Arly's red eyes glowed. "Do you think we demons fear death? Life means nothing to us, unlike you weak humans."
He raised his hand and shouted, "ATTACK!"
The demon titans roared and jumped forward. The ground cracked beneath their weight. One of them swung its massive hand down toward the four humans.
Before it could hit, a sharp flash of light cut across the battlefield. The world itself seemed to split.
SWISH!
The giant's arm flew off, crashing into the ground with a thunderous sound.
Sol appeared in front, his sword drawn. His movements were so fast that even the air seemed to lag behind. His eyes were cold and focused.
Without waiting, Sol darted ahead, his body twisting mid-air. He sliced through the leg of a giant demon. Blood poured down like rain. He landed on a stone and kicked off again, rushing upward.
He spun in mid-air and drove his blade straight into the demon's neck. The strike was clean, the movement fluid. The demon's head slid off slowly before crashing into the dirt.
Another one roared and swung its fist at him. Sol moved like lightning, sliding past the blow, his blade flashing. He used the momentum to climb up the arm and slashed through its chest.
Steam and dark blood sprayed everywhere.
A third giant tried to grab him, its hand closing around Sol. For a moment, he was trapped. His eyes widened as he tried to move, but the grip was too strong.
Then, a loud explosion echoed.
BOOM!
A burning blast hit the demon's body, knocking it off balance. The force made it stumble back and loosen its hold. Sol took the chance. He spun and drove his sword through its forehead, the blade piercing deep.
He jumped out just as the body fell to the ground.
Sol breathed heavily but didn't stop. He leaped toward the next one, his sword glinting with light. He sliced through muscles and tendons with perfect precision.
Kael and Martina watched from behind, their faces unreadable.
Sol landed again, his sword dripping red. The last demon tried to run, but Sol appeared behind it in an instant. With one final slash, the head rolled off and hit the ground.
Silence followed. Only the wind moved through the ruined battlefield.
Sol stood still, panting slightly. His eyes were sharp and calm. Around him lay the corpses of the Leviathan giants, cut and broken.
Kael stepped forward slowly. "Not bad," he said quietly.
Sol sheathed his sword. "They were big," he said, his tone flat, "but not fast enough."
The others looked at him in silence as the field darkened under the setting sun.
Riley jumped forward to help Sol. His body moved with speed and power. He threw a heavy punch into the air. The force of it cracked the wind itself, creating a shockwave that looked like a crystal fist.
It struck the giant demon in the chest with a deafening sound. Flesh burst apart as the giant stumbled backward, crashing into the ground with a loud thud.
Riley didn't stop.
He punched again and again. Each blow tore through the air, sending shockwaves that struck the giants from every side. Their bodies shook and bent under the pressure. One of them tried to swing its arm, but Riley was faster. He ducked, jumped on its arm, and slammed his fist into its head. The skull cracked, and the body fell lifeless to the ground.
Beside him, Martina moved like a blur. Her body glowed faintly as she darted across the battlefield. She climbed up the massive demon bodies, her boots slipping on blood and torn flesh.
Everywhere she passed, she cut the demons apart. Her blades slashed through limbs, slicing through thick muscles as if they were paper.
One demon roared and tried to grab her, but before its hand could reach, she was already behind it. A clean slice, and its neck opened wide, spraying dark blood across the field.
Another demon swung at her from behind. She jumped and flipped in midair, her blades glinting in the dim light. When she landed, the demon's legs were gone, and it collapsed into a pool of its own blood. Martina's eyes were cold, her breathing steady.
Kael stood a few steps back, watching the three of them. Sol moved like a blade of light. Riley's fists tore through the wind, and Martina's movements were silent and sharp. Together, they weren't just fighting. They were butchering the demons.
Kael exhaled slowly, almost in awe. "What a scene," he muttered under his breath.
Then he looked back..
The ground was filled with blood and flesh. Broken bones and torn arms scattered everywhere. The smell of death was thick and heavy in the air. The remaining demons looked at the scene in horror. Their eyes shook with fear.
Some began to scream and run. Others dropped their weapons and tried to escape. The proud army of demons had turned into a pack of frightened beasts, running from the slaughter.
Very soon, silence took over. Kael stood on the blood-covered land. He looked at the lifeless giants and the fading smoke. The battle seemed over.
But then, his eyes caught something strange. A faint black light shimmered across the ground.
His expression changed in an instant.
"Everyone, run!" Kael shouted, his voice sharp and urgent. "There's a curse!"
His words echoed through the valley. Martina, Sol, and Riley froze for a second, their faces tightening.
Then they saw it too.
From the ground, dark miasma began to rise like smoke. It crawled across the soil, swirling and twisting in the air. The land around it darkened as if life was being sucked out of it.
Riley cursed under his breath. "Damn it. We need clerics!"
They all jumped back, dodging as the black mist reached up like ghostly hands. The curse spread fast, tainting everything it touched.
Kael gritted his teeth. He had heard about this kind of spell before. It was old and forbidden, used by demon priests to destroy armies from within. But no one had used it for centuries.
"Run!" he shouted again.
The ground behind them turned black. The soil cracked open as the darkness spread like a wave. It was bone-chilling. The blood on the battlefield began to boil, turning into dark mist that merged with the curse. The more blood it touched, the faster it grew.
Martina signaled to the troops. "Retreat! Fall back!"
The human soldiers started to run, but the spreading darkness was too fast. It moved like fog, swallowing men, weapons, and even the corpses. The sound of cries and footsteps filled the air.
Kael cursed again. "It's feeding on blood! It's getting stronger!"
From a distance, Linda and her mage squad saw what was happening. She raised her staff and shouted, "Mages, attack! Use fire and wind!"
Bolts of flame and waves of air struck the dark fog, but nothing changed. The miasma absorbed the attacks and grew thicker.
Kael clenched his jaw. "We need light element attacks! Does anyone have it?"
No one answered. The mages looked helpless. The soldiers' faces turned pale as the curse crept closer.
Riley gritted his teeth and swung his fist again, but the shockwave only stirred the miasma for a moment before it reformed.
The air turned heavy and cold. The smell of decay filled their lungs. The world around them looked like it was fading into shadows.
Just when it felt hopeless, a bright light burst from above.
A flood of golden light washed over the battlefield, spreading in all directions. For a split second, everything turned white.
