The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two
Chapter 117: Ethan Grant’s Acting Is Too Good
CHAPTER 117: CHAPTER 117: ETHAN GRANT’S ACTING IS TOO GOOD
Meridia, Hospital.
Yvette nervously leaned against the edge of the bed, her eyes red and swollen, clearly from crying for a long time.
Ethan Grant removed the oxygen mask and glanced at Yvette, smiling helplessly. "It’s just acting, are you really crying?"
"But... but you, you were too convincing," Yvette couldn’t help choking up.
After the meeting, Yvette handed the swapped "peanut candy" to Ethan Grant in advance.
Even though it was just a regular milk candy inside, Ethan Grant began to cough violently, looking like he couldn’t breathe.
It frightened Yvette terribly.
Ethan Grant was amused by Yvette’s stuttering and timid demeanor.
She really looked like a frightened little rabbit.
"Are you worried about me having an allergic reaction and dying, or are you afraid of feeling guilty if something really happened to me?" Ethan Grant inexplicably wanted to know if Yvette was worried about him.
Yvette wiped her tears, wondering if there’s any difference between the two hypotheticals. "I was scared and thought I got the wrong candy."
Ethan Grant’s smile froze for a moment, realizing he had read too much into it.
"Later, the company’s PR department will certainly take you away, don’t worry, I’m here." Ethan Grant reassured Yvette.
Yvette nodded nervously.
This act was done thoroughly, causing a big stir in the company to make it hard to wrap up.
At this moment, Lilith Larson must be anxious, afraid that Yvette would say she intended to harm Ethan Grant.
Lilith had already thought of her words since Yvette was a reformed prisoner, a habitual liar, and company people wouldn’t believe Yvette.
"Miss Aston, there’s been a serious error in your work, please cooperate with us for an investigation." The PR department came to take Yvette away.
Christopher Carter returned with anti-allergy medicine, seeing the PR department taking Yvette away, he instinctively wanted to stop them but realized how big the issue was and let them take her.
"Mr. Grant, you’re awake?"
After the PR department left, Ethan Grant opened his eyes.
"This time Yvette indeed made a mistake, it must have been a setup, otherwise how could she have given you peanut candy just by chance." Christopher Carter sighed, thinking Ethan Grant overestimated Yvette; she’s been in the company only a few days and already got set up.
She definitely couldn’t stay.
Ethan Grant sat up, removed the IV needle, and got off the bed. "Let’s go, head back to the company and watch the show."
Christopher Carter was shocked. "Mr. Grant, how can you..."
Ethan Grant curled his lips, this matter was plotted by him and Yvette, he hadn’t told Christopher Carter.
Earlier when he pretended to be allergic, Christopher was frightened to tears.
Only now realizing it, Christopher’s jaw almost hit the floor.
Was he fooled by Yvette and Ethan Grant?
Rather envious, he followed Ethan Grant, beginning to grumble. "Mr. Grant, I haven’t had a job transfer yet, could you let me know before you and Yvette do something next time?"
"Your acting is bad," Ethan Grant spoke indifferently.
Christopher rolled his eyes. "You scared me to death."
Ethan Grant said nothing, getting straight into the car. "Don’t forget the bet between us, if Yvette handles Lilith, you’ll be her gofer for three months, at her beck and call."
Christopher stood there, stunned, watching Ethan Grant, rubbing his eyes vigorously.
Did he see right, their usually aloof and taciturn Mr. Grant was actually joking with him just now?
And even smiling?
Amazing, truly amazing.
Since Yvette entered Ethan Grant’s world, Ethan Grant became all weird.
...
Grant Group.
The PR department was investigating, asking very harsh questions.
"Yvette, did you deliberately try to harm Mr. Grant? You’re a newcomer, you can’t not know Mr. Grant is allergic to peanut products, this is attempted murder."
"Miss Aston, if you don’t cooperate with the investigation, we will call the police."
The PR department pressured her at every step.
"I didn’t." Yvette kept her head down, only able to say she didn’t.
Even though she believed Ethan Grant would come to rescue her in time, Yvette still couldn’t explain a word.
She was socially anxious, scared, especially when faced with these people’s interrogation; she had difficulty breathing, her heart raced.
It felt like that kind of low blood sugar feeling, very painful.
This is a manifestation of somatic depression.
Yvette feared being questioned; when Jayden Grant and Stellan Aston teamed up to send her to prison, accusing her of extortion, she was also interrogated by the police like this.
"Mr. Grant." Arthur Grant walked in, looking grim.
"Mr. Grant, this Yvette is definitely deliberate, Mr. Grant can’t eat peanut products, I especially told her when she first joined the company, she can’t not know, I say we might as well call the police." Lilith Larson followed Arthur Grant, framing Yvette.
"Yvette... I heard you went to prison back then because the Grant Family accused you of extortion and fraud, are you holding a grudge because of that..." Wendy Bell followed Arthur Grant, covering her mouth in shock and disbelief, voice choked. "Yvette, you foolish girl, back then Ethan wasn’t involved in your extortion incident."
Yvette looked numbly at Wendy Bell, lowering her head mockingly.
She had certainly hit Yvette’s sore spot.
Also seemed to give the PR department a reason.
"Mr. Grant, you see... should we still call the police?" The PR department thought Yvette was intent on revenge.
"Everyone, leave us for a moment." Arthur Grant sat opposite Yvette, wanting to talk with her alone.
Lilith Larson clenched her hands nervously and left.
No one would believe Yvette.
"Now no one’s here, you can speak the truth, are you doing this to get back at the Grant Family?" Arthur Grant’s voice was deep. "Aren’t you satisfied with your relationship with Ethan?"
"HR didn’t tell me Ethan Grant is allergic to peanuts, they even deliberately mentioned he likes peanuts, do you believe that?" Yvette raised her head, looking at Arthur Grant.
She was hinting to Arthur that Lilith was someone’s pawn, who was plotting against Ethan Grant.
In the competition among wealthy families, there’s plenty of intrigue and hidden battles.
Arthur Grant couldn’t possibly be unaware of Lilith and Melody Crowe’s relationship, just turning a blind eye.
"Do you think I’d believe your words?" Arthur Grant snorted coldly.
"Mr. Grant, Ethan Grant is your son too, he’s human, he has feelings and can hurt." Yvette felt Ethan was being wronged.
Arthur Grant was too biased.
As they say, with a stepmother comes a stepfather, it’s really true.
Arthur Grant frowned, his voice low. "Yvette, in this matter, you have no winning chance, because no one will believe you, if I call the police and find a lawyer to sue you, you’d be suspected of intentional harm, you know better than anyone what prison tastes like."
Yvette’s fingers clenched one by one, trembling all over with her head down.
She indeed knows better than anyone what prison is like.
"If you’re wise, you’ll quietly end the marriage with Ethan, I’ll let this incident go, and you leave the company." Arthur Grant was negotiating with Yvette. "I’ll give you some hush money, you take your son and leave Meridia forever."
"I’m sorry, I can’t." Yvette looked at Arthur Grant with a burning gaze.
"Seems you won’t shed tears until you see the coffin." Arthur Grant stood up, ready to have the PR department call the police.
"I want to have a private chat with Lilith." Yvette stood up, looking at Lilith who was eavesdropping outside the door.
Lilith smiled sarcastically, she would never admit to saying anything.
