The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two
Chapter 118: Yvette Aston Is a Terrifying Woman
CHAPTER 118: CHAPTER 118: YVETTE ASTON IS A TERRIFYING WOMAN
Arthur Grant ignored Yvette Aston and said to the people in the public relations department, "Call the police."
Lilith Larson seemed relieved. "That’s right, Mr. Grant, why even give her a chance to explain? Someone with a criminal record doesn’t deserve a chance; just call the police right away."
"Uncle, why not give Yvette one more chance and just let her leave the company?" Wendy Bell suggested kindly.
Arthur Grant snorted. "Wendy, you shouldn’t be too kind-hearted. Your sister is still in a detention center because of her."
Wendy Bell sighed, looking regretful. "I just feel like Yvette doesn’t seem like a bad person."
"You can never really know someone," Lilith Larson said, adding fuel to the fire.
Yvette Aston remained quiet, sitting there until Arthur Grant and the public relations team left. Then she turned to Lilith Larson. "I don’t really mind, but I have a recording. Would you like to hear it?"
Lilith Larson was about to leave, but when she heard Yvette mention a recording, her whole back tensed up.
Turning her head to look at Yvette, Lilith Larson was full of confusion. "What did you say?"
Yvette Aston took out her phone and calmly played the recording.
The day of the recording, she had already exported the audio and sent it to Ethan Grant.
After listening to the recording, Lilith Larson’s face turned pale, and she looked at Yvette with disbelief and terror. "You... you set me up!"
From the first day she joined the company, Yvette was targeting her for this!
"Miss Larson, do you know what it means to praise someone to death?" Yvette Aston turned off the recording and waved her phone slightly. "I have many backups of this recording; snatching my phone won’t help."
Lilith Larson’s fingers were trembling as she pointed angrily at Yvette. "What exactly do you want to do!"
"These years, you’ve been an old employee of the company, holding a favorable position in HR, and you’ve become a bit too complacent thanks to Melody Crowe’s flattery," Yvette spoke calmly, her voice steady.
Her heart was beating fast; she was afraid too.
But thinking of Ethan Grant coming soon, she was not afraid.
"When people become complacent, they tend to make fatal mistakes, like this incident," Yvette stood up, looking at Lilith Larson. "Today’s matter is already known to everyone. Whether it’s the police or within the company, once I send out the recording, I can clear my name, while you will be taken away by the police for investigation."
As HR, deliberately inducing new employees to harm the CEO.
What kind of crime is this?
"If Mr. Grant insists on pursuing it, you might be charged with intentional harm," Yvette firmly gripped her clothes, refusing to show weakness.
Lilith Larson was panicking, extremely flustered.
"It’s just a recording; what can you prove? No one will believe you," Lilith Larson still argued.
"The recording can be authenticated; whether they believe it or not doesn’t matter," Yvette knew Lilith Larson was making her last struggle.
The authenticity of this recording wasn’t what many people cared about. Once she sent it out, there would be plenty of people eager to kick her when she’s down.
Lilith Larson’s hands were already shaking. She nervously glanced outside the door and rushed in to grab Yvette’s clothes. "What do you want to settle this, don’t give the recording to the police."
"Was it Melody Crowe who instructed you to do this? Did you really think that all these years, your little actions in the Grant Group went unnoticed by Mr. Grant?" Yvette pushed away Lilith Larson’s hand, taking a step back.
Lilith Larson took a deep breath. "Is Mr. Grant deliberately having you approach me just to get rid of me and replace me with his own people?"
"Mr. Grant isn’t that bored, but you’re not smart enough," Yvette wobbled a bit and sat back down on the chair.
"Miss Larson, you’ve been with the company for so many years, even if there’s no merit, there’s hard work. Once Mr. Grant pursues this to the end, not only will you be convicted, but all your years of hard work in the company will be in vain, leaving you with a criminal record and going to jail," Yvette spoke calmly. "I really don’t want you to experience life in prison."
Lilith Larson took a step back weakly. "What will it take for you to destroy the recording? Name your price; if you want money, I can give it to you. I’m begging you."
"Indeed, it’s only when you have leverage that people become humble and courteous," Yvette sneered.
Before she had leverage, Lilith Larson wasn’t like this at all.
"Yvette, you did this on purpose, didn’t you? Just to see me humiliated. Charles Larson and the others, you were the one who deliberately led Mr. Grant to fire them, just because they were people Melody Crowe told me to plant!" Lilith Larson realized too late.
She looked at Yvette in fear, unable to believe it.
Yvette Aston, a convict who spent five years in prison, with no degree, no background.
In just a few days at the company, she achieved this.
Terrifying.
This woman is truly terrifying.
Yvette quietly looked at Lilith Larson. "Arthur Grant called the police. The police will take about forty minutes from dispatch to entering this door."
Yvette gave Lilith Larson forty minutes to think about what to do.
What should she do.
What does she want.
"Yvette! You’re threatening me! Who do you think you are, threatening me!" Lilith Larson seemed to go mad.
Yvette just looked at her calmly.
When people can’t accept results, going crazy is the first line of psychological defense.
"Yvette, I’m begging you, just delete the recording. I’ll tell the police it was my management oversight, I really didn’t make things clear, okay? That way, neither of us loses much. Do you agree?" Lilith Larson started pleading, seeking ways to bargain.
In Yvette’s view, this was her second psychological defense line, as she still harbored a fluke mentality.
Seeing that Yvette was ignoring her, Lilith Larson paced around irritably, taking a deep breath and walking to the floor-to-ceiling window.
Yvette was accurate. It took the police thirty-five minutes from dispatch to arriving downstairs at Grant Group.
Going upstairs and entering the room would take about three or five minutes.
Lilith Larson looked at Yvette in terror.
In that moment, she was even more afraid of this woman.
She seemed so weak and easy to bully.
"What do you want!" Lilith Larson was anxious.
The police had arrived.
She saw the police car.
Yvette just looked at Lilith Larson.
If she’s not smart enough to keep around, there’s little use for Ethan, and it’s better to get rid of her.
Lilith Larson’s palms were sweaty with anxiety. She didn’t even know what Yvette wanted.
Money wasn’t it. Work wasn’t it.
Was it for Ethan?
"I thought after firing Charles Larson’s group, Miss Larson, you would understand by now, but it turns out... you’re still the same," Yvette got up sarcastically, ready to welcome the police.
Lilith Larson looked at Yvette in panic and rushed over to grab her wrist. "Melody Crowe and Jayden Grant went to Solara. She found out Scott Aldridge’s contact and preferences years ago. She reached out to me long ago to plant her people in the company. I know everyone in every position who belongs to Melody Crowe."
"Yvette, I can give you the list! If you help me this time, I will be Mr. Grant’s person in the future. I’ll inform you of any moves Melody Crowe makes first thing!" Lilith Larson’s voice trembled.
Yvette’s eyes burned as she looked at Lilith Larson, smiling. "How can I trust you?"
"Secretary, Secretary Ziegler beside Ethan Grant, that’s someone Melody Crowe planted by Ethan Grant’s side!" Lilith Larson was resorting to self-preservation.
Yvette nodded, shaking her phone in front of Lilith Larson, which was still recording. "Miss Larson, you should learn from your mistakes; I’ve recorded everything now, and if Melody Crowe finds out..."
Yvette was cutting off Lilith Larson’s escape route completely.
