The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two
Chapter 122: Wendy Bell Deliberately Provokes Charlotte Summers
CHAPTER 122: CHAPTER 122: WENDY BELL DELIBERATELY PROVOKES CHARLOTTE SUMMERS
Grant Group.
Yvette Aston sat to the side with a tray, nibbling on some fruit, seemingly lacking much appetite.
"You should eat more, you’re too thin to handle the chaos. Being an assistant to Mr. Grant, you need to be prepared for the struggle." Christopher Carter murmured quietly, complaining about the boss.
Yvette replied with an "oh" and ate a couple more bites of fruit.
She seemed only interested in the cherries, strawberries, and sweet peaches on the tray.
In front of Henry Jennings was plainly boiled chicken breast, with no oil or water at all.
He was too lazy to use chopsticks, using a fork to pick fruit from Yvette’s tray, an action subtly suggestive.
In fact, Henry was deliberately provoking Ethan Grant.
Who doesn’t know Ethan Grant has a cleanliness obsession? Henry’s actions were meant to provoke.
Provoking Ethan Grant to do something he’d never do.
"I hear Mr. Grant has a cleanliness obsession, and all these years, he hasn’t touched a woman besides Wendy Bell?" Seeing Ethan’s face darken, Henry continued to provoke.
"Don’t talk while eating, Old Master Jennings’ family teachings seem somewhat lax." Ethan frowned.
Yvette’s hand holding the chopsticks stiffened for a moment; Ethan didn’t refute his relationship with Wendy Bell.
It appears to be true.
"Wendy Bell is quite good-natured, obedient, and not ostentatious." Henry spoke blandly, his words still provoking.
"That’s truly unfortunate, President Jennings plans to marry her sister. If you truly feel regret, you can bring it up with the Bell Family." Ethan put down his water glass and wiped his hands. "Take your time eating."
After speaking, he got up and left.
"I... I’ve finished eating too, I need to go work." Yvette placed down her chopsticks, standing up suddenly.
Henry’s expression turned sour. "Isn’t it still before work hours?"
"Overtime." Yvette wanted to leave.
"Yvette, how long are you going to keep this up with me?" Henry grasped Yvette’s wrist.
"Not... not keeping anything up with you." Yvette anxiously tried to retract her wrist.
Christopher choking on his food, perceptively got up and dashed away.
"Today, people from the Bell Family went to the Grant Family to see Arthur Grant, Ethan Grant will sooner or later have to marry Wendy Bell. Staying in the Grant Group, the people from the Bell Family won’t let you off easily." Henry was genuinely worried for her.
"It has nothing to do with President Jennings." Yvette shook off Henry’s hand, somehow feeling irritable.
She thought she had long been worn out, but evidently not.
She simply didn’t dare to lose her temper.
Because she had no one to back her up, and she herself didn’t have the ability to support her own temper.
Henry was visibly displeased; perhaps he’s indulged Yvette too much recently, leading her to lose sight of her situation.
Yvette is just that kind of woman; he knew six years ago.
If Yvette could recognize when to advance or retreat, she wouldn’t have chosen prison over him five years ago.
Rubbing his brow irritably, Henry sighed.
What else could he do? He happens to like Yvette’s character.
Fully worn down, she wouldn’t be herself.
Henry wasn’t in a rush, he had plenty of time to wait for Yvette to realize.
Apart from being beside him, there was no sanctuary.
"President Jennings, you’ve been appearing at Grant Group quite frequently lately." Jayden Grant walked into the restaurant, clearly here to find Yvette.
"Any complaints?" Henry leaned back in the chair, his voice deep.
Even with complaints, he held onto them.
"Old Master Jennings wouldn’t agree to you being with Yvette. With Claudia Bell soon to be released, do you think the Bell Family would agree to your relationship with Yvette?" Jayden clenched his fingers, yet he needed Henry now.
"In the face of absolute interests, the Bell Family isn’t qualified to say no." Henry stood up, walked by Jayden’s side. "Saying such words is the biggest difference between you and your brother, because you’ve never reached your brother’s heights."
Henry was setting up a pedestal, deliberately exacerbating conflicts between Jayden and Ethan.
But he did make a point; in the face of absolute interests, the Bell Family couldn’t say no.
If the Bell Family refused the relationship between Henry and Yvette, it would merely lead to calling off the engagement, something Henry would welcome the Bell Family to initiate.
Unfortunately, the Bell Family wouldn’t call off the engagement just because Henry maintained a woman outside.
These commercial marriages, everyone knows what it’s about.
...
The Aston Family.
May Kendrick’s complexion was poor. "Exactly what kind of methods did Yvette use to seduce Ethan Grant, enabling Ethan to protect her like this."
"Ethan Grant won’t be interested in Yvette for long. She used underhanded methods to secure her current position; how long can Ethan Grant keep her around?" Charlotte Summers stood by the door, her voice choked. "Brother, that day I really fainted from dizziness, it’s not sister’s fault, but after she got out of prison, her attitude toward us was clearly retaliatory."
Stellan Aston remained silent, saying nothing.
He also knew, Yvette came for revenge.
Revenge against the Aston Family, revenge against Jayden Grant.
If it weren’t for revenge, why would she stay by Ethan Grant’s side and keep hold of Henry?
Now... has she fallen to such a level? Selling herself to make Ethan Grant and Henry help her.
"Is she deluding herself that Ethan Grant would marry her?" May Kendrick sneered. "Not even mentioning the Grant Family, who else in Meridia would dare marry her?"
"Ethan Grant won’t marry her." From outside, Wendy Bell walked in, smiling sweetly. "I’m Ethan’s fiancée."
Charlotte Summers glanced at Wendy Bell.
She had indeed heard that the Bell Family had spoken with Arthur Grant multiple times, intending for an alliance between the families.
Arthur indeed planned for Ethan Grant to marry the eldest daughter of the Bell Family.
The Bell Family clearly aiming to catch both major players in the industry, marrying the elder daughter to Ethan Grant, the younger to Henry.
"Miss Bell came today..." Charlotte Summers asked.
"I went to Grant Group today, originally intending to see Ethan, but coincidentally saw Jayden, who seemed to have just returned from the airport. I thought since we’ll be family soon, I should come see you." Wendy Bell spoke diplomatically.
She and Charlotte Summers were rarely mutually impressed.
The Aston Family looked down on the Bell Family’s unscrupulousness, while the Bell Family looked down on the counterfeit returnee turned ignorant invalid, becoming a Meridia joke.
"Jayden?" Charlotte Summers paused, stepping quickly to Wendy Bell’s side. "You saw Jayden at Grant Group?"
"Yes." Wendy Bell displayed a face of innocence. "You didn’t know? Today Yvette caused trouble at the company, Ethan had an allergic reaction to peanuts, then she went and fed him peanut candy, resulting in Ethan having to be hospitalized, it’s truly infuriating."
Charlotte Summers’ breath quickened, gripping Wendy Bell’s arm. "Yvette caused Ethan Grant to end up in the hospital? How did the public relations department and Group executives handle it?"
Yvette causing trouble, Jayden suddenly returning to Grant Group, Charlotte Summers didn’t need to think hard to suspect there’d be a connection.
The Solara project was something Jayden long focused on, clearly planning to meet Scott Aldridge today. Yet just because of Yvette, he disregarded everything and returned?
"I heard it was just a written critique; she truly got off easy." Wendy Bell spoke casually.
Charlotte Summers’ eyes reddened, heading outside in fury.
"Charlotte!" Stellan Aston stood up, chasing after her. "Where are you going?"
Charlotte Summers paused, phoning Jayden Grant.
Initially, Jayden didn’t answer.
On the second call, Jayden answered.
"Jayden, where are you?" Charlotte asked, restraining her tone.
"I... I’m at the hotel." Jayden lied. "I have business to attend to; is there something wrong?"
"No..." Charlotte’s breath trembled.
Jayden lied to her for Yvette.
When Charlotte hung up the call, Wendy Bell stood innocently at the door. "Did I misunderstand?"
"Charlotte!"
Charlotte defiantly got into her car, driving straight to Grant Group.
She was always so heedless.
"What’s happened?" Wendy Bell’s face was anxious. "What’s wrong with Charlotte?"
Stellan hurried to chase Charlotte, without an explanation.
Watching the siblings drive off in succession, Wendy Bell’s mouth curved upward.
It was said that Charlotte Summers was brainless except for being malicious; turns out to be true.
Now, Grant Group’s about to get lively.
