The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two
Chapter 124: Ethan Insults Without Using Profanity
CHAPTER 124: CHAPTER 124: ETHAN INSULTS WITHOUT USING PROFANITY
"Yvette, come out!"
"Aren’t you disgusting? How do you have the face to stay at Grant Group? What right do you have to stay at Grant Group? Get out!"
Charlotte Summers was still outside yelling and shouting. Because she was Jayden Grant’s fiancée, the company’s executives and security did not dare to stop her.
Moreover, everyone knew Charlotte was frail; whoever provoked her was in trouble. If she fainted upon contact, no one could bear the responsibility.
Yvette Aston sat anxiously on her chair, nervously gripping her fingers.
Several times she looked up at Ethan Grant, but he seemed completely oblivious, still busy with his work.
But clearly, Charlotte would not give up without seeing her.
"Mr. Grant... she’s affecting your work, I’ll go..." Yvette was a little scared, afraid Ethan would think she always attracted trouble.
"Carter can handle this." Ethan didn’t even look up, waved to Yvette. "Come here."
"Okay." Yvette quickly got up and walked over to Ethan’s side.
"This is the list from Lilith, handle this person." Ethan circled a name on the paper, it was the director of the investment department at Grant Group, named Eric Larson.
This person is forty-eight years old this year and is one of Arthur Grant’s most trusted people.
Grant Group is a highly centralized company. As chairman, Arthur, although not directly involved in management now, holds the real power.
If Ethan wanted to undermine Arthur, he had to gradually replace his people.
The investment department was directly under Ethan’s jurisdiction, and Eric Larson was akin to a roadblock.
"If Lilith gave the list, it means Eric Larson belongs to Melody’s faction, which complicates things." Yvette held the list, pondering. "This person... has been with the company for years. I investigated the managers of each department. Eric Larson is a two-faced person, well-liked, it’s hard to find his faults."
"Is it difficult?" Ethan leaned back in his chair.
Was he giving Yvette too big a task right off the bat?
Yvette was nervous but also a bit happy. Although Ethan assigned her to a boss-level figure immediately, it at least showed that Ethan trusted her and believed in her abilities. "No problem, give me some time."
Ethan looked at Yvette for a while and smiled. "You can stutter, depending on the situation?"
Ethan noticed that Yvette only did not stutter when she was serious about work.
Being teased by Ethan, Yvette’s face instantly turned red, she lowered her head and stammered. "No, no."
"Any thoughts? Need my help?" Ethan wanted to hear Yvette’s ideas.
"I need to understand this person’s private life first, conduct an investigation." Yvette wanted Ethan to help her; she did not have the capability to hire a private detective.
"Information." Ethan handed Eric Larson’s personal details to Yvette.
Yvette, surprised, looked at Ethan, realizing he had wanted to get rid of Eric Larson for a long time.
"Christopher Carter investigated it, but he didn’t have the capability to solve it for me." Ethan wasn’t belittling Carter, his abilities were limited to just checking out Eric’s private life.
"Specialized skills are for specialists, Special Assistant Carter has... has his abilities. We, we need to cooperate to complete the task better." Yvette nervously defended Carter, taking the information back to her desk for thorough research.
Ethan propped his head, watching Yvette, twirling a pen in his hand with great interest.
Truly, he had stumbled upon a treasure.
"At two thirty in the afternoon, leave for the airport on time. Have you prepared all the essentials for the trip?" Ethan was worried Yvette might not be used to traveling for work the first time.
"Mr. Grant, I, I’ve prepared everything. I’ve already had your suit sent to the hotel over there in advance. There will be dedicated staff to dry and iron it. I have matched the tie and watch, with alternatives, you can change them if you don’t like them." Yvette jumped up, like a student reporting homework to a teacher.
After checking the time, Yvette spoke again. "The gift prepared for Mr. Aldridge has also been shipped over in advance. Once you arrive, you can head straight to the appointment."
"Mr. Grant..." Outside, Christopher took a deep breath and came in. "Outside, Young Master Jayden’s fiancée, has gone nuts."
Ethan ignored Christopher; he just wanted to ask Yvette if his things were ready. "What gift did you prepare for Scott Aldridge?"
"F-fresh hairy crabs..." Yvette had researched Scott Aldridge’s preferences.
The pen Ethan was twirling fell onto the table, and he choked. "Hmm?"
Hairy crabs?
Would Scott Aldridge lack hairy crabs?
"You prepared hairy crabs for Mr. Aldridge?" Christopher was also stunned. "Fine, you probably thought hairy crabs were a good gift. There’s still time, so I better prepare something myself."
Christopher was a bit reproachful, expecting Yvette to prepare something good.
Ethan just laughed, saying nothing.
Yvette wanted to explain, but opened her mouth and still didn’t speak.
"Mr. Grant, Charlotte Summers is going crazy, and no one dares to provoke her." Christopher was a bit troubled, seeking help from Ethan.
"I... I’ll go resolve it." Yvette guiltily headed out, not knowing how she had offended Charlotte, causing her to create such chaos at the company.
Ethan glared at Christopher, and then followed her out.
...
"Yvette, you’ve already taken away twenty years of my life. What more do you want? Won’t you leave me alone? What will it take for you to leave Grant Group and stay away from my boyfriend?" Charlotte, upon seeing Yvette, shouted emotionally.
Yvette stood in place, somewhat at a loss.
A crowd gathered to watch, all buzzing with comments. Ever since Yvette had joined the company, it had become quite the lively place.
"Charlotte!" Stellan Aston and Jayden Grant came over, anxiously calming her. "Charlotte, don’t make a scene. We’ll explain when we get back, alright?"
Jayden embraced Charlotte, quietly comforting her. "Don’t get excited, I can explain once we get back."
Charlotte’s gaze burned as she stared at Yvette. "Do I have to beg you on my knees? All these years, you’ve been in my family, using my identity, enjoying the best education, the best life. And what about me? Do you know what kind of life I’ve led? Do you know how Caden treated me?"
Charlotte cried while recounting her years of suffering, listing all of Yvette’s wrongdoings.
"You’ve stolen my life, stolen my boyfriend, what more do you want to ruin me?"
Yvette quietly stood there, letting her vent.
"Jayden, what does she want from me? Does she want me dead?" Charlotte lost control, crying hysterically, and turned to jump from the window ledge.
Stellan hurriedly held Charlotte back, angrily looking at Jayden. "Think of something!"
Jayden lifted his hand to rub his forehead, standing there, annoyed, before he looked back at Yvette. "Apologize to Charlotte. Let her forgive you."
"..." Yvette said nothing, just looked at Jayden.
Jayden averted his gaze. "What you owe her, you can’t repay in a lifetime. If anyone should die, it should be you. Apologize to her."
"Was your mother not getting enough nutrition when pregnant with you?" Behind Yvette, Ethan leaned against the doorframe, tugging at his tie.
Jayden was actually amused.
