CHAPTER 139: CHAPTER 139: MR. GRANT’S METICULOUS LOVE

"Mr. Grant..." Outside the hotel, Secretary Ziegler arrived to pick them up.

Wendy Bell stood by the car, nervously watching Ethan Grant.

Ethan didn’t even glance at Wendy, instead he took the laptop from Yvette Aston’s hands and opened the car door for her. "Get in."

Yvette was flattered, also aware that Ethan was doing it on purpose—using her as a shield.

But this was also her worth.

"Ethan... Can we talk?" Wendy pleaded with a sob. "Last night, you had too much to drink, I was just taking care of you, Ethan... I beg you, please believe me, okay?"

Ethan signaled Christopher Carter to close the car door.

"Miss Bell... perhaps wait until after the Solara project is finished, and then we’ll talk?" Christopher softly coaxed her.

Wendy stood there with reddened eyes, watching as Ethan closed the car door.

"Miss Bell..." Secretary Ziegler opened the passenger door for her to get in.

Reluctantly, Wendy got into the passenger seat.

"Thirsty? Drink more water if you’re catching a cold." In the car, Ethan spoke so tenderly to Yvette it could make water drip out.

Christopher sat to the side, his legs were trembling uncontrollably.

Mr. Grant’s intentions were too obvious; clearly, this was all meant for Wendy to see.

Last night, Wendy crossed the line with Ethan once more.

But there was no other choice; Christopher couldn’t bring himself to tell Ethan that the incident at the hotel with Wendy going in and out of the same suite had spread online, now topping the search charts...

The arranged marriage between the Bell Family and the Grant Family was unavoidable.

Even if Ethan wasn’t satisfied, there was no other choice.

For the sake of both families’ reputations, not getting engaged wasn’t an option.

Sighing, Christopher looked out the car window, fearing Wendy’s cleverness might be her undoing.

Ethan despised being manipulated and used; Wendy’s intentions were too obvious.

How did the paparazzi happen to catch such perfect timing? Because someone had prepared for this in advance.

"Hungry? You didn’t eat lunch, and the dinner banquet might not be satisfying either." Unconcerned with others, Ethan handed Yvette a piece of chocolate.

Yvette looked surprised at Ethan. "Where... where did you get this from?"

She hadn’t seen Mr. Grant bring any chocolate.

"Magic." Ethan raised an eyebrow.

"..." Yvette turned her reddened face towards the window, avoiding his gaze.

This man’s face was truly bewitching.

Such a casual joke, yet so alluring.

Nervously taking a deep breath, Yvette didn’t dare look back at Ethan.

Wendy sat in the passenger seat, her face practically stormy.

Ethan was deliberately angering her.

Angry at her for scheming against him.

But, what does it matter?

In the end, he still has to marry her.

Yvette...

Clenching her teeth, Wendy wished nothing more than for Yvette to drop dead.

She had to find a way to make Yvette disappear entirely.

Not only disappear, but she wanted Yvette to be thoroughly disgraced, driven out of Meridia, never to return.

She needed Ethan to find Yvette utterly repulsive.

"Mr. Grant, do you want to review the project proposal again?" Christopher cautiously handed the proposal book to Ethan.

Ethan took it with one hand, while secretly holding Yvette’s hand with the other, forcing her fingers open.

When nervous, she would tightly clench into a fist, her nails digging into her palms.

Ethan seemed to understand her self-harming habits.

Out of sight, Ethan held Yvette’s hand, preventing her from continuing to harm herself.

Yvette, stiff with anxiety, stared out the window, her ears burning red.

Ethan... don’t keep giving her false impressions and hope.

Or perhaps, does he treat every woman with such meticulous care?

Yvette, you need to be clear-headed; after all, he’s Ethan Grant.

"Mr. Grant, those at the venue say Melody Crowe and Jayden Grant have already arrived. They seem very confident, sure of themselves." Christopher said in a low voice.

Ethan neither acknowledged Christopher nor took them seriously; confident, are they?

Ha...

Just with Jayden’s skills?

...

The car stopped in the parking lot.

Christopher got out to open the door for Ethan.

Once out, Ethan waited for Yvette to exit the car.

He even shielded her head from bumping as she got out.

Christopher coughed lightly, seeing Wendy with tear-filled eyes standing with the secretary, he whispered, "Mr. Grant... That’s enough. Miss Bell is already in tears."

Ethan shot a glance at Christopher, questioning what it had to do with him?

"Besides, with so many reporters and media watching, aren’t you putting Yvette in a difficult position? She’s already at the center of attention." Christopher was worried for Yvette.

Ethan pondered for a moment, concurring that Christopher had a point, and proceeded straight to the venue.

Christopher breathed a sigh of relief, pulling Yvette aside. "Mr. Grant’s actions are just for show against Miss Bell, don’t overthink it. No matter how handsome our Mr. Grant is, don’t develop feelings; it’ll only hurt you in the end."

Christopher was reminding Yvette they were merely business partners, nothing more.

Yvette bit her lip, her nose slightly stinging, nodding. "I... I understand, I’ll be clear-headed."

Christopher felt reassured, looking at Yvette approvingly. "I have high hopes for you; Mr. Grant also appreciates you. Even if the contract ends early, Mr. Grant will likely keep you at Grant Group, your good days are ahead. Work hard, and we can enjoy success together as long as Mr. Grant is there."

Yvette bowed her head, nodding vigorously.

Christopher, like a veteran, nodded. "Let’s go, into the venue."

This bid was personally organized by Scott Aldridge, not just for the project cooperation but also for the banquet.

Before the bidding, business elites from various regions gathered, mainly for networking.

Everyone knew in their hearts that the project would inevitably go to Grant Group.

Wherever Grant Group was involved, it would be hard for other companies to compete.

But networking was crucial for them, hence still needed to attend.

Most were there for Ethan Grant.

"Mr. Grant is truly young and promising, such a pleasure to finally see him in person." Remarked a senior businessman, who hadn’t yet met Ethan, stepping up to greet him.

"Ethan, this is Mr. Carter from Arthur." A familiar contact introduced.

"Mr. Carter, nice to meet you." Ethan smiled, clearly in a good mood.

Christopher was astounded; usually, Mr. Grant’s aloofness made him unapproachable, but today he was relaxed and all smiles.

Incredible! Indeed.

Silently praying Mr. Grant would keep it up, just keep it up.

If Ethan had realized this earlier, would there still be room for Jayden and Melody in Grant Group?

"Mr. Carter, hello, I’m Mr. Grant’s assistant, hoping to leave you my card for future business cooperation." Yvette came forward with a smile, wanting to leave the best impression on Ethan.

Mr. Carter looked surprised but gladly handed his card over. "Ethan, your assistant is impressive; those who work with you are talented."

Mr. Carter admired Yvette, laughing heartily. "If Mr. Grant ever recruits new talent, this assistant comes recommended to me."

"I’m a person who values consistency," Ethan replied with a smile.

"Great, I like that philosophy. It puts us further at ease cooperating with Grant Group!" Mr. Carter’s cheerful demeanour drew the attention of the venue.

Everyone was shocked looking at Ethan; those familiar knew he was usually as aloof and solitary as a mountain flower, hard to approach. What had gotten into him today?

"Yvette!" A man approached with ill intent from the crowd, calling her name with a smirk. "Unbelievable, haven’t seen you in years and now you’re Mr. Grant’s assistant? Has Grant Group’s recruitment standard become so high they specifically hire a bed warmer?"
