CHAPTER 164: CHAPTER 164: BEAT UP JAYDEN GRANT WITH A SACK OVER HIS HEAD

Ethan protected Yvette Aston, kicking Jayden Grant in the stomach. "Are you looking for death? Touch my people?"

"Ethan! Yvette is mine!" Jayden wiped the blood from the corner of his eye, looking at Ethan with intense anger. "We’ve been together since we were sixteen, ask her if she still has me in her heart!"

"Sixteen? You really have the nerve to say that. Kids playing house, what do they know about love?" Ethan’s voice was low, as he tightly sheltered Yvette in his arms.

He didn’t need to ask if Yvette still had feelings for Jayden. Whether she did or not, it didn’t matter.

He just needed to do what he ought to do; whether Yvette would fall in love with him, that was up to her.

"Yvette, tell him, tell him you still have me in your heart, tell him you love me!" Jayden’s voice shook, as if he were desperately expressing himself like a child, immaturely seeking affirmation and answers.

Yvette’s entire body trembled with numbness, her anxiety made her unable to speak, unable to make a sound.

"If she doesn’t answer, it means she still has feelings for me," Jayden taunted Ethan relentlessly, as if winning Yvette was the only way to defeat Ethan.

"Yvette, can we have a good talk? I know you weren’t willing six years ago, Henry forced you, didn’t he... I still have feelings for you, I can’t forget you, let’s talk..." Jayden spoke nervously, wanting Yvette to give him a chance to talk.

"Ha..." Ethan sneered.

Jayden kept talking about his love for Yvette, claiming he couldn’t forget her, yet he didn’t even know Yvette had depression and was too traumatized to speak.

Covering Yvette’s ears with his hands, Ethan gently comforted her. "Don’t listen, it might disgust you."

These years, the people who caused Yvette to suffer so, now had the gall to say he still couldn’t forget her.

Such words were filthy.

They shouldn’t dirty Yvette’s ears.

Yvette slowly closed her eyes, her whole body shivering and curling up stiffly in Ethan’s embrace.

His heartbeat was strong, yet it became a soothing remedy that quickly calmed her down.

"Ethan... aren’t you just trying to destroy me? You hate that my mom stole your dad, you’re afraid I’ll take what’s rightfully yours, so you want revenge on me, that’s why you’re using Yvette, you know I’d give my life for Yvette..." In Jayden’s eyes, Ethan was deliberately trying to provoke him.

Ethan was doing this on purpose.

Ethan was using Yvette against him.

"Do you deserve it?" Ethan protected Yvette as they left.

Using Yvette against him? What a joke.

Holding Yvette’s hand, Ethan led her into the office.

Yvette’s rigid fingers were clasped tight; it was difficult for her to even try to open them.

The feeling of hand cramps, beyond her control.

Fortunately, there were no employees around, no one saw Mr. Grant holding his assistant’s hand...

Otherwise, the employee chat would explode again.

"From now on, don’t leave my sight." Ethan handed Yvette a cup of hot water, placing it on her cold hands.

Yvette held the cup, feeling somewhat warmer.

After taking a sip of the hot water, she realized it was Ethan’s cup.

"Mr... Mr. Grant..." Yvette looked at the cup in a panic, almost in tears.

How could she use Ethan’s cup?

Ethan had a germophobia.

Yvette hadn’t prepared a cup for herself; she always used disposable cups at the office.

"I..."

Seeing Yvette’s nervousness and inability to speak, her eyes reddened with panic and agitation as she looked at him, Ethan felt a pang in his heart.

He didn’t dare have Christopher investigate, to probe into all that Yvette had gone through over the years.

Tilting Yvette’s head up, Ethan bent down and kissed her.

His kiss was gentle, as if silently comforting Yvette, don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, I’m here.

Yvette’s body stiffened for a moment, but then miraculously began to warm up slowly.

Tears finally flowed uncontrollably, and Yvette cried in Ethan’s arms for a long time.

Ethan just let her cry.

"I..."

After an unknown amount of time crying, Yvette tried to speak, her voice hoarse. "I..."

Ethan patted Yvette’s back.

"I don’t love, I don’t love Jayden..."

Hearing Yvette’s explanation, Ethan smiled slightly, in a very good mood. "Hmm, I know."

Only a fool would continue loving such a jerk.

Yvette wasn’t a fool; she was a smart little fox who knew how to bite.

"He’s... he’s bad."

"Hmm, not a good person," Ethan agreed with Yvette.

Yvette cried again. "I’m sorry... I hit him..."

It seemed she had hit Jayden hard enough to break his head; the Grants would definitely seize this chance to make a fuss and trouble Ethan.

"Indeed, your mistake was not hitting him harder with a stick." Ethan rubbed Yvette’s head.

Yvette looked up at Ethan, her eyes red yet incredibly bright.

Ethan took a deep breath; Yvette’s eyes might be the most beautiful eyes he had ever seen...

"Now, slowly open your fingers, okay?" Ethan coaxed Yvette, open your hands, don’t hurt yourself.

In her agitation, in her fear, she would subconsciously clench her fingers tightly, and her nails would dig into the palms.

Yvette lowered her head, trying hard to open her fingers, but they wouldn’t obey her commands.

Ethan’s large hands cradled Yvette’s hand. "Didn’t I say, even if you’re afraid, don’t hurt yourself?"

Feeling guilty, Yvette bit her lip and gradually opened her hands.

Only then did Ethan notice a few crushed White Rabbit candies in Yvette’s palm.

Squinting his eyes, Ethan immediately became alert. "Where did these come from?"

"Christopher gave them to me." Yvette said softly.

"They’re not tasty." Ethan tossed the candies into the trash.

Yvette instinctively wanted to stop him, but it was too late. "No, they’re not..."

The candies Ethan had given her last time were also White Rabbit candies.

They were delicious.

"They’re fake. He likes buying cheap stuff from a certain app, they’re fake, I’ll buy you some." Ethan critically commented on Christopher. "He’s the type who likes to be petty."

"..." Yvette uttered a sound.

Ethan took out a first aid kit, tending to the marks in Yvette’s palms made by her nails, and then as if by magic, produced a big, red apple.

Yvette’s eyes lit up. "An apple?"

"Hmm, tastier than what Christopher gave you," Ethan said in a low voice.

"I told him to find you, where did he go?" Now remembering, Ethan spoke darkly, almost through gritted teeth.

He had instructed Christopher to protect Yvette, and this is how he did it?

Outside the CEO’s office, Christopher, holding the materials Jayden had mentioned, felt a sudden shiver.

After sneezing twice, Christopher mustered the courage to knock on the CEO’s office door. "Mr. Grant, Jayden..."

As soon as the door opened, Christopher was startled out of his skin.

Ethan stood behind the door, his expression dark.

"Mr. Grant... You’re scaring people to death standing behind the door like this," Christopher didn’t believe Ethan was just there to open the door for him.

"For the desert project, Jayden isn’t going, you’re going." Ethan smirked.

Christopher’s eyes widened, nearly ready to kneel before Ethan. What mistake had he made again? "Mr. Grant, you can’t be so cruel, you can’t leave without me, I can’t go..."

Going away for half a month, would he even be human when he returned? He refused to go.

"You refuse?" Ethan snorted. "I’ll give you a second option, find a place with no surveillance, put a sack over Jayden’s head, and beat him up."

"..." Christopher inhaled sharply. "I’ll go to the desert instead."

The Grants, he couldn’t afford to provoke.

"Ethan." Just as Ethan’s anger hadn’t fully dissipated, Wendy Bell arrived.

In her hand was an envelope from the paternity testing center.
