CHAPTER 29: CHAPTER 29: ETHAN GRANT HIDES YVETTE ASTON

Yvette stared blankly at Ethan, her fingers tingling.

Ethan looked at Yvette and reached out to her. "Hand it over."

Driven by a mysterious force, Yvette handed her hand over, but just as she was about to touch Ethan, she pulled back suddenly, retreating in fear. "Dirty... filthy..."

She felt contaminated, undeserving, a tarnish on Ethan.

In Yvette’s eyes, Ethan was perfect, a god-like presence.

He should not be tainted by her in the slightest.

Ethan furrowed his brows again, unsure why he was bothering with her. "Apply it yourself, or it will scar."

Yvette was so pale, her fingers porcelain white and slender, making the reddened blister stand out alarmingly.

She resembled a perfect piece of ceramic art, beautiful yet fragile.

Fearful, Yvette looked at Ethan, slowly reached out, quickly grabbed the ointment, and curled back up.

Ethan chuckled; she looked just like a stray cat on the street.

So wary, constantly in a defensive stance, yet unable to fight back.

What was she afraid of? For the little boy named Summers?

"Brother... you’re back." Outside the doorway, Jayden pushed the door open and walked in.

Ethan’s expression darkened immediately, instinctively drawing the curtains to hide Yvette behind them, and looked coldly at Jayden. "Can’t you knock?"

Jayden paused momentarily, quickly bowed his head, and spoke softly. "Sorry, Brother... I heard from the maid that you were back."

"Did you contact President Jennings of Apex privately?" Ethan asked coldly.

Jayden kept his head down and quickly explained. "Brother, Chase is my sister’s husband, the son-in-law of our Grant Family. I wanted to help him. I didn’t mean not to tell you, I thought you were busy."

Jayden could never hold his head up before Ethan.

With Ethan around, he was always overshadowed, whether at the company or at home.

Ethan’s excellence made even the not-so-bad Jayden seem far inferior.

Behind the curtain, Yvette timidly hid, listening quietly.

Her heart racing, Yvette barely dared to breathe.

Back when she was with Jayden, he often complained, believing the family shouldn’t have Ethan, and frequently suggested Ethan should die.

Back then, Yvette always comforted Jayden, saying he is your brother, you each have your strengths, don’t compare.

But Jayden was always jealous of Ethan, jealous of everything about him.

Gazing at the tube of burn ointment in her hand, Yvette remained silent for a long time.

In all of Meridia, only Ethan could protect her, Summers, and Caden...

She agreed to get close to Ethan... but all she had was her filthy, broken body.

Siding with her own thoughts scared her, making Yvette breathe rapidly and clutch herself tightly.

No, she couldn’t.

How dare someone as dirty as her even consider involving Ethan in such a way.

Offending Ethan would only make her plight a hundred times worse.

What was she even thinking... so laughable, daring to fancy Ethan would want her?

"I told you, the Sinclair Family’s affairs aren’t so simple. The Grant Family must not get involved in this mess, do you understand?" Ethan’s pressure made him view Jayden as foolish.

"After all... we’re family." Jayden softly defended.

"Ha." Ethan scoffed sarcastically.

He couldn’t be bothered to say much, as the Sinclair Group had been too bold in recent years, and today there’s no one to save them. When they collapse, Jayden and Arthur won’t have time to distance themselves, saying whatever about being family.

"Do not contact President Jennings again, don’t disgrace the Grant Family," Ethan warned Jayden.

Jayden endured it, clenching his fists tightly, bowing his head. "Yes..."

"Out." Ethan instinctively glanced behind the curtain before speaking again. "I heard you brought Charlotte Summers to the house?"

Jayden froze in his steps, as Ethan never inquired about family matters. "Yes... easier to care for her."

"I don’t want to get involved in the Aston Family’s matters, but you need to have some discretion in what you do," Ethan warned again. "Don’t cause any trouble."

Clearly, Ethan was warning Jayden not to be too much for Yvette.

Jayden nodded and left the study.

Ethan, how can he keep suppressing him, preventing him from contacting the major partners of the Grant Group in private, just afraid that one day he’d hold real power.

Hmph, he insisted on privately connecting with these people, Ethan can’t suppress him forever.

With cold eyes glancing towards the study’s position, Jayden departed in deep fury.

"Where’s Yvette?" Jayden, displeased, asked coldly.

The maid was confused too. "Young master, I don’t know where she hid. Just didn’t see her earlier, it’s her nature, either stealing things or being lazy."

Jayden irritably smashed the cup on the table, speaking coldly. "Uncle Carter’s son, isn’t he unmarried?"

The maid jumped in fright, quickly responding. "No way, his son is prone to violence and likes to hit people, who dares marry him, remember Young Master Linden? Got beaten so badly he’s still in the sanatorium, even scared into mental illness."

Jayden frowned. "Tomorrow, have Uncle Carter bring his son over."

If Yvette refuses to reveal who that wild man is, he’ll let her understand the consequences of betraying him.
