CHAPTER 33: CHAPTER 33: YVETTE ASTON COULD DIE AT ANY MOMENT

Ethan Grant glanced at Yvette Aston without speaking.

Was she doing it on purpose? At least she’s not too foolish.

He thought Yvette Aston was the kind of person who wouldn’t fight back, but having some cunning is better than being truly cowardly.

"She wants to protect herself. Only you in Meridia can protect her, but you’d better... not get involved in such troubles." The assistant thought Yvette Aston was just trouble.

"Just focus on driving," Ethan Grant frowned.

The assistant quickly shut his mouth.

Ethan Grant was a smart man, and he hated trouble the most. The eldest Miss Bell of the Bell Family had already become a lingering trouble, let alone another Yvette Aston.

"Mr. Grant... that Miss Bell from the Bell Family looks for you every day. If you don’t visit her for a day, she creates a scene. You weren’t careful back then and fell for her tricks; now it’s troublesome, and she clings to you." The assistant had been with Ethan Grant long enough to dare to complain.

He absolutely had no fear of death.

After thinking for a moment, the assistant spoke again. "Actually, Miss Bell is quite nice. She is beautiful and kind-hearted, just insanely in love with you and a bit obsessed. Eventually, you’ll have to settle down, and the shares the old master of the Grant Family left you are only unfrozen when you get married."

Ethan Grant frowned slightly, thinking Christopher Carter was a bit talkative tonight. "Did the Bell Family bribe you?"

Christopher Carter almost bit his tongue, quickly shaking his head. "No, no, I wouldn’t dare to accept anything."

Ethan Grant sneered, seems like there’s been a bribe. "Just drive properly and turn on the heater."

Seeing Yvette Aston shivering, Ethan Grant instinctively placed his hand on her shoulder.

His arm stiffened momentarily, and Ethan Grant wordlessly turned his gaze to the car window.

Why was he interested in this woman?

Whenever he encountered Yvette Aston, he felt something strange, and his body seemed to crave contact with her more than he realized.

Clearly, he had a severe obsession with cleanliness and had always been averse to others getting close; he would never take the initiative to touch anyone.

To Ethan Grant, this Yvette Aston wasn’t anything special, except for recently appearing frequently in his view.

...

Meridia Hospital.

When Yvette Aston woke up, only Christopher Carter was in the hospital.

He was sitting on a chair, dozing off, evidently accompanying her the whole night.

Yvette Aston nervously sat up. "I’m... sorry."

Christopher Carter woke up too, looking at Yvette with a grievance and a gaze full of reproach. "Running to the park with such a high fever, what were you thinking?"

Really putting on an act, clearly doing it on purpose to gain Mr. Grant’s sympathy.

"I... I’m sorry." Yvette Aston didn’t want to explain. "Thank you."

People wouldn’t believe her even if she explained, and it would just be exhausting.

"No need to thank me; it was Mr. Grant who saved you. Isn’t this what you wanted? But don’t think this will catch his attention. Our Mr. Grant is not fond of women, especially those who aren’t clean, understand?" Christopher Carter intentionally made his tone harsh, wanting Yvette Aston to understand and back off.

Yvette Aston lowered her head, her fingers fidgeting nervously. "I... I understand, I haven’t."

"You better not have." Christopher Carter snorted, ordering takeout for Yvette. "I ordered you some wontons. Eat them while they’re hot. Since you’re awake, I’ll be leaving now."

Yvette Aston nodded anxiously, looking at the time—it was already 7:40.

She had promised Jayden Grant to arrive at the Grant Family by 8:30.

But she was so hungry...

The wontons arrived quickly, just as Christopher Carter left, the delivery arrived.

Yvette Aston was very grateful to Ethan Grant, but there was too much debt to repay.

She squatted on the floor with red eyes, taking a few bites that scalded her lips numb.

Blowing vigorously, Yvette Aston didn’t want to waste it and continued eating hastily.

She was very hungry.

At eight, the doctor made the rounds.

Lucas Lockwood came in with Yvette Aston’s test results, looking around the room, finally seeing Yvette crouched by the bed eating.

"Why are you eating on the floor?" Lucas Lockwood asked, puzzled.

Yvette Aston was taken aback, realizing only then... it had become a habit.

"Just... just used to it." In prison, she often ate crouched in a corner.

She didn’t dare sit with the other inmates; they’d bully her and spit in her food.

She would go hungry for many days straight, only able to eat a few bites when faint with hunger.

Lucas Lockwood’s fingers stiffened slightly, taking a deep breath, he remembered Yvette Aston had just been released from prison. "Today you’ll have one more day on the IV, your body is too weak, not even meeting the standards to donate a kidney. I’ve already informed the Aston Family and Jayden Grant to choose another donor as soon as possible."

Yvette Aston kept eating a few more bites of wontons, almost choking, sipping some soup, she carefully closed the packaging of the wontons, tidying up the plastic bag, planning to take it with her.

Seeing Yvette being disobedient, Lucas Lockwood frowned. "Even if you don’t donate your kidney, if you don’t take care of your health, you won’t live much longer. You have heart problems, did you know that?"

Yvette didn’t stop walking.

She knew she wouldn’t live long.

The Aston Family wouldn’t care if she met the donor standards or not.

"Yvette Aston!" Lucas Lockwood was frustrated with this woman, did she really not care about life and death?

He wasn’t exaggerating; Yvette Aston was at risk of sudden heart failure and death.
